Yes.My 2070 super is still sufficient for most new stuff, if there's any new stuff worth even playing to begin with.So you have to play games at 1440p, use optimised setting lists to get the best balance of perf/visuals and you can't have any of that ray tracing bollocks enabled, but you can get a good framerate and decent graphics out of modern titles on a machine that is now 7+ years old.You play a new, visually 'impressive' game and the difference between medium and ultra is so marginal, especially in motion, that it just doesn't matter to anyone but the absolute most anal retentive graphics whores. I can play Cyberpunk with a mix of high and medium at over 60fps. The game looks pretty good and plays great. Does it look incredible with full path tracing and DLSS5 and everything cranked up to full on a 10k 5090? Sure... Does it make the game actually any better or any more fun to play? No, not at all. It is coming to the end of its life though, my PC, as in it's coming to the end of its ability to keep up with the newest releases. There's still a load of great games to be played though that don't require any upgrade. So maybe in a few years I'll 'need' to build a new PC. Prices will probably still be insane, if we haven't entered a full global depression/war and if we can even buy games anymore who knows. I don't really care. I can always read books. Video games aren't as dear to me as they once were.

>>748894772Yeah very true. I had a 3080 up until earlier this year and it played games at 4K high with DLSS at 60+ fps 99% of the time. The only game I can recall where I had to drop the resolution to 1440p DLSS was silent hill 2 remake but that's because it was a notoriously shit port. My experience with the 3080 is what showed me that the vram scare mongering is all bullshit because I only encountered 2 games in all my years of owning it which had vram related issues. One was FF7 remake DLC which had rare vram hitches (that the base game never had so i don't know what's up with that) and forza horizon but it's also a very well optimised game so lowering it down one graphics preset from the extreme to ultra fixed the issues and the graphics were still amazing with 100+ fps at 4k DLSS. The only "drawback" (if you even care about it) is the power draw since my card could hit up to 340w but I just spent 5 minutes undervolting it based on a YouTube guide and it reduced the power draw to the mid 200w range on average and I still managed to achieve higher clockspeeds than reference. Overall one of the GOAT GPUs of recent times. Honestly if you can find a 3080 10gb for around $300-350 just go for it since it's within 10-15% performance of a 5070 but at half the cost.

When I opened up my 3080 one of the thermal pads started crumbling but I still repasted the GPU core and just left the partially crumbled pad and had no issues at all. You'd know if your VRAM was overheating if you use HWMonitor to check VRAM temps and clocks. If your GPU is thermal throttling it's most likely that old paste has burnt away so it's a quick fix. And 70C in general isn't even bad it's perfectly normal when these cards only really start throttling at 83C and can hit up to 95C no issue.

Stand-alone, it can make a 15 second 1440p video clip in about 12 minutes. Best case scenario, if you try that with a 3080, it will take hours. The 5080 pulls ~300-320w in most cases and will reach its TDP of 360w with ease in uncapped fps shader heavy workloads. Overclocking pushes it to ~400w or more and gives you a ~10% performance boost, which you can get almost all of with a slight undervolt anyway.
My 5080 is good enough for now.

Sure, games like PoE2 run great on it, I have that card too but new games are kinda retarded in a way they are graphically designed based on max settings and if you lower them they end up looking like things are just completely missing or flat. Cyberpunk for example only looks palatable with high RT settings and only looks like it was designed to with PT on.
