Is /v/ finally ready to admit that BG3 has set the bar for CRPGs moving forward? It doesn't have the best main story, but the handcrafted world, litany of unique NPCs, combat mechanics, and companion depth are near-indisputably the high points of the genre. The motion capture and fully voiced story is, of course, unparalleled. The music is often fantastic.People who call it "woke" couldn't be further off the mark. You can kill pretty much anyone. Trad runs are easily accomplished.
If transforming into a bear is not bestiality than transforming into a child is not pedophilia.
>>748900053>The music is often fantastic. It is. That's why BG3 won all the awards. It's hard to find fault in the game.>it looks nice>the gameplay is good>the music is good The combat theme is the first song you hear and it's amazing.https://youtu.be/MW1bBywTExU?si=lUHPl6VHxqH2vmmSThe only game that comes close to BG3 in recent years is Expedition 33, but BG3 has better gameplay.

>>748900053Its not even finished, and part 3 is so unbearable you just grind through it to get it over with. Every single companion is unlikeable and are based on the devs so have a 21st century outlook and sarcasm. They dont fit the world at all

>>748900383How are you gonna compare a generational achievement like BG3 with some cookie cutter unreal jeetslop like e33?
>>748900383>>748900513Trans coded posting style
>>748900435True, Part 3 feels rushed. It clearly should have been split into Parts 3 and 4 with Lower and Upper City. That detracts from the main story, along with the irreconcilable pacing issues that accompany a "ticking time bomb" main plot taking place in an open-world sandbox.>>748900389Most of this is either factually incorrect or a distorted view based on extreme subjectivity. >>748900614I'm a cis hetero male who loves nutting inside post-menopause cougars without worry.
>>748900383>The only game that comes close to BG3 in recent years is Expedition 33, but BG3 has better gameplayE33 literally does nothing at a comparable level to BG3. It's an ugly little linear indie game
>>748900568>How are you gonna compare a generational achievement like BG3 with some cookie cutter unreal jeetslop like e33?>cookie cutter unreal jeetslopDude... what? If this is "cookie cutter unreal jeetslop" then make something better. If you can't, the designated shitting street is now your mouth.
>>748900383E33 is a lot of fun and has a great story, but I didn't enjoy the combat system nearly as much as I did BG3's.
>>748900383out of all the things the music is absolutely average especially compared to Kirill's work or practically the entire Owlkek cataloguewhat the fuck(yes Raphael's song is a cool idea)
>>748900869>E33 is a lot of fun and has a great story, but I didn't enjoy the combat system nearly as much as I did BG3's.I just said BG3 has much better combat/gameplay. Both are turn based, but only E33 has QTEs, which make the game a lot less chill.
>>748900952Reaction-skill gameplay can be fun (I enjoyed Dark Souls and E33, and I peaked at Diamond in LoL), but it's not primarily what I'm looking for in vidya.I actually dropped E33 after getting to Simon. I gave him like 2-3 tries. It was a really fun fight and me dropping the game was independent of how good I thought it was. I did end up watching the "Return to Lumiere" cutscenes with my buddy who loves the game. I think they did a really nice job in how they chose to end it. Had I actually played through to the end (didn't want to until I beat Simon), I really would have struggled over which decision to make. It was a beautiful existential debate. BG3 doesn't come close to establishing a decision that's so difficult to make.
>>748900053Yes
How confident are we that this will be kino?
>>748900698Do write out what exactly is factually incorrect.>Inb4 well you can play a le evil guy who just kills everyone and that way you can avoid faggots!
>>748901464100%
>>748901256>I actually dropped E33 after getting to SimonDid you? That's crazy, because I did the exact same thing. In BG3, the hardest fights in the game are just knowledge checks, and it's not something where you need to be trained like a dog to beat. For example, Apostle of Myrkul is really hard on Honour Mode. However, it becomes way easier if you know that you buy Doom Hammer in Act 1 and hold it until you fight him at the end of Act 2. Stuff like that is why BG3 is better. No matter how hard the fight in BG3, you just need to prepare for the fight like you're Batman and you can beat it.>BG3 doesn't come close to establishing a decision that's so difficult to make. Are you talking about Maelle or Verso? I feel like the decision at the end of BG3 is the same (the one about who to transform). Both of those are pretty heavy.>>748901464I would say 50%, because they've shown nothing. I want to see gameplay and companions.
>>748900053I can deal with lower production values pretty easily but man do I very much prefer BG3's homebrewed 5E over OS2's ruleset. I'm gonna be so sad if we're back to action points and ground puddles again, same with randomized loot and the leveling system.
>>748900568>two retards fighting
>>748900389>Nothing bad will ever happen to you>we want you to rest as much as you can since half the content is in the camp!>I bet you figured we don't take the game we made seriously>Your reward for all this is a 5 second cutscenePlus all the heavily exaggerated gay/racial stuff, which covers pretty much everything I didn't directly quote. It's hard to take this argument seriously. Try playing the game, anon. You'll very likely have fun. No one is gonna force you to be gay.
>>748900389>>Surprise! Nigger invites you for a gay dance and vows to win your heart! No you can't get rid of himyou can 100% get rid of him. in my run where I used as many unique methods as I could to kill companions I slimed Mizora and he got turned into goo in hell. made the Myrkul fight really hard because I was down a party member but honestly that was my most fun run of the game
>>748901680>I very much prefer BG3's homebrewed 5E over OS2's ruleset.I prefer classes to freeform as well. When I play OS2, I treat all the characters as different classes, whereas BG3 did it for you. I like classes because then each person is absolutely necessary>I need this DEX person because they open the locks>I need Shadowheart to heal and stand next to the enemy with Spirit Guardians onPeople become more important when they're the only one who can do something.
>>748901672Yes, but more fundamentally about whether to destroy the canvas, and all the fully-realized life within it - including some of your best friends - or not. It invokes the debate about what a life is, what a soul is. It made me consider how even in what we consider to be "real life," if there is a transcendent universal creator who one days chooses to be wrathful, then we're in the same position as those who exist within the canvas. It was just a beautiful metaphysical layer, in my opinion. Watching Esquie and Monoco embrace as oblivion comes broke my heart. They paralleled Verso's faithful animal companions in real life, and showed Maelle and Verso the same level of loyalty and love in-canvas.The transformation in BG3 can certainly be difficult, but it didn't hit me nearly as hard. I ended up using it to solve Karlach's engine problem. She seemed pretty happy with it in the post-story camp epilogue lol
>>748901807I agree for the most part, though BG3's version of it also has problems. like you run Bard as your face and that's basically every important skill covered, the rest of your party can be entirely combat focused from there, on top of Bard also being a really good martial class thanks to flourishing slash. but yeah I think 3's class system is way better than the fallout style of just leveling a skill
>>748900053combat system is pure garbage, i only played and finished it for the quests
>>748901728>Nothing bad will ever happen to youAt the beginning you are being told you have to hurry and resting advances time. This creates urgency and incentives to play the game smart, rest as little as possible and do as much as possible in the world. But if you play like this is breaks interactions and story. You are supposed to take a rest after almost every fight, and the cutscene explains your tadpole is very super special and it won't turn you, so you can take as much time as you like and explore the entire act one before moving on, doing all the side quests. This is the first point that ruins immersion.>Seriously It's the tone you faggot>5 second You didn't play the game. When you leave act 2 with the "good" ending of cleansing the land you get shown a tree growing and your character stands smiling like Jesse from Minecraft story mode.
>>748902019>It invokes the debate about what a life is, what a soul isI didn't think the ending of E33 was that profound. I've always understood that a person's worth (real or fake person) is in the eye of the beholder. Maelle loves her canvas friends, and she wanted to stay with them. Did I care about them? Honestly, no, because I saw myself as Verso. If I was Maelle, then I would have chosen Maelle. There's no right or wrong answer. In fact, me and every other gamer is closer to Maelle when not playing E33. The decision is reality vs escapism, and people who play games are choosing escapism.
>discord trannies are so not mad about the no alphabets mod that they report spammed the last thread and got it deleted
>People who call it "woke" couldn't be further off the mark. You can kill pretty much anyone. I genuinely have no idea why fags like you keep spamming this cope when "you can kill pretty much anyone" is a basic feature people expect from a RPG and does nothing to remove the woke content.
>>748902537>does nothing to remove the woke content. How is killing someone not removing the woke content? Are you still mad at their corpse?
>>748902406Your first point, which strays from the claim that "Nothing bad will ever happen to you," is addressed here: >>748900698I and many others do not read the tone the same way you do. The game clearly has many heartfelt moments and treats certain scenarios with appropriate gravity. There is whimsy and lightheartedness, but that does not establish that the devs didn't take the game seriously.I completed one playthrough of the game over ~160 hours. Your reward for the "good" ending in Act 2 goes beyond a 5-second cutscene, as other key storylines and characters are dramatically affected. We will have to agree to disagree. You are far too emotional at this moment to have a rational conversation.
>>748902537it's a game entirely about securing bodily autonomy from a religious cult, it is inherently woke in this regard but culture warriors here have the understanding of a rock so they think they are circumventing the woke by hyperfocusing on the fact that you can kill THE GAYStm. the wokeness is as always not even the main problem with the game, unless somehow all the dev time for act 3 went into modeling and animated the gay gnomes lmao
>>748902589I don't care that a NPC is dead or not when the woke shit is still in the game and only keeps coming.
>>748902537It sounds like you're saying that the mere existence of LGBT and minority-race characters is woke. That's not really the meaning of the word. You can play a very traditional Chad Thundercock who saves the world while turning down every gay romance. Minority races have existed in fantasy for as long as the genre has been around. Changes in human skin color are trivial.
>>748902741>the woke shit is still in the gameWhat woke shit do you mean?
>>748902785Yes, putting faggot shit and "diversity" in your game is indeed a choice the devs had to conciously and frequently make all through the development. It's my choice to avoid playing their woke product as there are dozens of other RPG's.>>748902815I see that you're resorting to the patented millenial tactic.
>>748902741That sounds a lot more woke than the woke shit you're complaining about. If you can kill the games proponents of woke that fundamentally makes it not woke. A woke game would never let you even disagree with a woke mouthpiece. ie Cyberpunk 2077. It sounds more like you just want to behave like the wokies but in favor of your preferred politics instead if theirs
>>748900053I always saw the Larian vision. Even during DOS1. I am a massive Chud so no this has nothing to with politics. Larian is actually breaking more new ground in gaming than any other studio. If you don't see it I think it's an IQ issue honestly.
>>748900053no, its still objectively worse than BG2 in almost all of these things
>>748902785>It sounds like you're saying that the mere existence of LGBT and minority-race characters is wokeI would agree with him, but if you have the option to kill them, then the biggest homo is the guy crying about them being there in the first place. >>748902951You're not going to answer my question? I'm closing the thread. The thread will be closed on the catalog. The vast majority of the board is filtered at all times. You two digit IQ sub-humans will look for me but most of the board is filtered. Start the search.
>>748903020BG2's gameplay is objectively bad
>>748903003I just wish their campaigns writing wise were better, I'm all for the larian style sandbox/immersive simmifaction of CRPGs again after it was basically dropped entirely with Ultima dying
>>748901802>made the Myrkul fight really hard because I was down a party memberPeople finish this game in solo honor mode, some even as a level 1 sperg. Yes, you need some luck before act 3, but with the right setup you should be safe.
>>748903020I don't believe you actually believe this.
>>748903169and bg3's is objectively worse
>>748903212I see what you mean. But writing has always been their weakest point and it definitely isn't ass shit as it has been in their past games.
>>748903248sure and people have done solo modded runs of BG1 and 2 on the hardest difficulty too, that doesn't make the fights NOT hard man.
>>748902986>A woke game would never let you even disagree with a woke mouthpieceCorrect. Too bad that this woke game never lets you to express your feelings about faggotry.Again, putting all of that shit into the game was a fully aware, lengthy and repeated effort so it's woke. Sorry.>>748903026Yes. I refuse to play along with your millenial bullshit.
The point is to invade online spaces and claim that "woke" pertains to such a wide berth of subjects that no one cares about so people become desensitized or annoyed by complaints of "woke" that are artificial or asinine. That's why they spammed and now bank on that Twitter post about liberals pretending not to understand things. It inoculated them from having to ever explain themselves I'm a discussion.
>>748903381What are these classic RPG let's you say you hate fags and niggers?
>>748903401It's afraid.
>>748900053>it's not woke because you can kill the woke characters! (and lose 99% of quests items and rewards but uhhh that's the price you pay for not celebrating diversity chuddy!)
>>748903302Explain, obviously without using anything subjective.
>>748902951You're welcome to ignore it, but the mere existence of minorities is not the meaning of woke. No one is forcing you to romance them and the only content hidden behind romancing them is of the sort that should be expected in an intimate relationship.
Everyone knows that based and TRAD studios are well known for actively pointing out the fact that straight white men play their game and acting like it's something odd.
>>748903442In case you are genuinrly not aware, you are a tool of the people you claim to hate
>>748903535Again, nobody forced Larian to put gay sex and minorities in this crap game. This is factual. Their wokeness was their own choice.
>>748903457>He needs a material reward to kill fagsNot a true chud
>>748903457>I haven't played the game: the postquest rewards are few and far between, and they are for the most part not very good. all the best items in the game are bought, or looted from encounters. and the woke quest givers are even fewer and far between.
sex with shadowheart
>>748903457"Woke" is to glorify progressive ideals. Mere coexistence and cooperation is not woke. I don't see how you don't find Astarion's story compelling simply because he's gay. If that fact alone makes you not want to take out a Vampire Lord, then that's a (You) problem.>>748903595Anon, that's not what wokeness is. But I understand if it's enough to make you want to avoid the game.Any RPGs that you would recommend? I'm currently playing through Planescape: Torment for the first time and really enjoying it. Considering Tyranny or Age of Decadence as my next play.
>>748903582Yes, me. Definitely not the ones defending woke media.Let me guess, the shitty Siege of Dragonspear dlc for Baldur's Gate wasn't woke because you can have a unhinged chud meltdown when faces with a troon NPC.

>>748903803That's the point. We're not defending woke media.
>>748903750>making sure not a single companion is straight isn't woke>going out of your way to make sure none of the women look "sexualized" and giving them wrinkly dyke faces isn't woke>making sure your game is "diverse" isn't woke>recording full mocap gay sex isn't woke>having a meltdown when faced with the fact white men play your game and refuse to make quirky wholesome POC characters isn't woke>putting a drag queen tranny in your game isn't woke>making sure that even the sluts will look like wrinkly 50 year old hags isn't wokeSure niggy
>>748903750>bruh just tolerate all the gay flirting and the gay dialogue and the gay quips and later you fight a VAMPIRE bruh
>>748903905You're defending a faggot game right now. The one that has a mod dedicated to removing woke shit.
>>748903803I wish chuds didn't dominate discourse with being so loud and obnoxious all the time, SoD sucked ass because the story was dogshit fanfiction that didn't even bridge the gap between the end of 1 and start of 2. one minor NPC hamfistedly expositing about being trans is like, bottom on the list of issues that shit has.
>>748903891Play the game bozo
>>748903891>>748904041>>748904105You guys are absurdly rigid in your viewpoints and will never meet anyone halfway. This is not a reasonable discussion. Fortunately, there are plenty of games you can play that feature 0 gay and/or nonwhite characters.
>>748903595Gay people exist. I am Catholic and think gay sex is immoral, but a character (that you can instantly kill btw and are even given an instant reason to when you first meet him and in multiple scenes later on) being gay is not woke.If there was some story beat of "evil stupid homophobes" wanted to attack him and you being forced to defend him while your main character explaining that homophobia is bad. That would be woke.A gay character existing is just that. If you don't see the difference you are just as retarded as plebbit people. But I understand nuance is lost on the midwit.
>>748904118Yes. It was shit AND it was woke.>>748904227If you feel a hard need to put faggotry in your product, including mocap gay sex scenes, then you're woke. End of discussion.
>>748903891>Eeeeexcept the gay angel girlboss who's totally not some dev's self insert OC, she's immortal and the only way to get her killed is to lock a companion into their quest's evil path forever which prevents you from getting her good end and romancefalse, you can kill her yourself and Shart will leave the party, cutting off the romance but not locking her onto any quest path, because that quest is over. it's one of the ways you can get the slayer form as dark urge.

>>748900053I prefer wotr personally, but bg3 is still a great game
>>748900053/v/ doesn't have to admit to anything because /v/ is an irrelevant hellhole filled with schizophrenic mongoloids who lack any semblance of critical thinking skills.
>>748904512Not being facetious, but isn't WOTR known for being a game where you spend 20 minutes buffing your party before the umpteenth trash mob?
>>748900383I loved it until I got to act 3, then I didn't love it so much, and after like 4 playthroughs, I can say act 3 feels rushed and is very flawed from a pacing standpoint. Most of wyrm's crossing I feel like needed to be cut. And at launch there were a ton of scripting bugs.
>>748904579BG3 is known as the game a companion tries to gay rape you
>>748900053funny there's a bg3 thread, I finally made a Barbarian Tavern Brawler and it's been fun throwing shit and I just hit level 5. Dunno if I want to stick with Berserker or try the Giant one, also is there any reason to not multiclass and should I take this all the way to 12?
>>748904407BG2 is interesting to me as someone who has only played it for the first time recently before BG3's release. I would not have ever guessed in a million years the game's bizarrely lopsided structure of frontloading all the side quests, and making the main plot a mostly linear affair. especially after playing 1, which was pretty evenly paced in this regard. still a great game of course but the difficulty curve of the game is weird because of this frontloading, you can get a LOT of levels under your belt and some of the best gear in the entire game pretty early and dogwalk the underdark for the most part, but you can also rush straight to it so the underdark provides temp weapons and armor that crumble upon surfacing, where you can get back to the side quest grind for levels and loot.
>>748900053yeah it's a good product but it's also lacking in the most meaningful way, story, it falls flat super hard in act 3also the companions are very hit and miss, I hate Astarion for being a ginormous faggot who immediately starts doing the same shit Cazador did whenever he gets a little bit of powerGale is a retard who will use netherese magic thinking he's better than mystra or kill himself because he doesn't think he's better than mystraWyll made a deal with a devil, what an idiotKarlach is missing half her content and her ending is going back into hell where you follow along blindly behind her without any weapon drawnLae'zel is the only companion that actually has anything going on story wise and has actual depthShadowfart is a typical Selunite turned Shar because Shar is such a dumb cunt she goes out of her way to fuck around with Selunites for no other reason than a petty grudge against her sister, she doesn't actually care about any of her followersDurge is just Durge, i didn't care for it but apparently the struggle of being good while being durge is good, i don't have an opinion for thatMinthara is a darkietwo druids get added to your party that you never use ever and are relegated to being NPC's for the most partall characters are playersexual and immediately start hitting on you before you even get halfway through act 1, you literally are not allowed to know about people unless you're in a relationshipit's just shit, the game is serviceable but the story and characters are bad, I don't really like any of the characters in BG3
>>748904683Idk nearly enough about builds to say. I played a Wizard and had Karlach and Lae'zel wrecking shit with their 2 auto attacks per turn. So if that's any indication, then you're probably on the path to being a god.
>>748904579If you play on harder difficulties or on console, yeah, sure. Theres a mod on pc that one click buffs you with every spell you set up which i used, so i never cared about that part.
>>748904743Good to know. I have WOTR in my library and definitely want to play it one day. I've read a lot about it being a peak power fantasy with the mythic paths and so on.
>>748900053>companion depth are near-indisputably the high points of the genreBig disagree, most of the companions are incredibly boring. I went into the game expecting hate that metrosexual faggot Astarion, only for him to end up being my favourite character, because he's at least somewhat interesting
>>748904371You have more of a point there, I'll grant you that. But you are still given multiple viewpoints from different factions. The Druids give good reasons why they must put their people first and aren't painted as "the evil faction". You are free to agree with the Druids and take their side. The whole Kagha = Trump thing is super gay though. I'll give you that. In a way it's kinda based that he/she's being controlled by an evil shadow cabal, but I'm not so delusional to think they did that on purpose lol. Either way that's like one little plot early on and you are given endless RP possibilities on how to deal with it. Which is what Larian does best.
>>748904683zerker is probably the best thrower if only because you get bonus action throws, but dipping 2 into fighter for action surge can never hurt. you lose out on a 3rd feat but you only really need tavern brawler to enable the build, STR is pretty easily stacked so losing out on an ability score improvement isn't the end of the world.
>>748904734>>748904835Fair point, I overstated how good the characters as a whole are. I'm playing Planescape right now and think Fall-From-Grace and Dak'kon are really well done. But as you guys pointed out, Astarion and Lae'zel have great storylines. I also really enjoyed Shadowheart's. Wyll definitely got done bad with the cuts to his storyline. Karlach I was satisfied with but agree that it could have been much richer emotionally. I killed Minthara so I haven't experienced her story. I believe she was only recruitable if you were doing an "evil" playthrough at the time I was playing. Gale definitely felt the most redundant given that I was also playing a wizard. I'm not sure if he suffers from a bad story overall or if he's just sort of a generic power/knowledge-hungry wizard with no real internal conflicts beyond that. What are your favorite games as far as companion depth goes?
>>748900053It's an unrealistic bar, honestly. I would love to see more CRPGs of this level of production values and effort, but who the hell will fund that? It took a literal RPG autist to be a CEO of his own company (and only after a few successful kickstarters made the build up to it possible) to get to here. It worked out extremely well here, but it isn't exactly safe to run a company like this.
Am I cringe if I break lore and mod wings and reptile feet onto my Dragonborn on my first playthrough?
>>748904734>Durge is just Durge, i didn't care for it but apparently the struggle of being good while being durge is good, i don't have an opinion for thatA "good" durge run is just a pseudo-Tav run, boring as hell.
>>748905184I think we can confidently expect them to match or exceed it with the new Divinity. They are developing that with sky-high confidence and the biggest budget so far. They also don't seem to feel rushed at all since the company is privately owned. And we know the CEO is a true lover of RPGs.
>>748905391The good Durge run honestly feels like the "canonical" playthrough. It most resembles the themes of resisting your heritage of the BG series, and has a very satisfying Withers scene/more explicit reveal.
>>748905562Oh certainly, I expect it out of Larian because he's willing to risk it. Back in my day homosexuality literally didnt even exist in gaming, I can name tens of thousands of games without minorities and LGBT and zoomers today cant imagine a world where such a thing was ever possible.
>>748915083That's fine, but their existence is not woke. You're academically misunderstanding the definition of woke as defined in sociopolitical literature. You may give it a certain informal meaning, but that's immaterial.
>>748915083I dislike bg3 for its wokeness, but you're right that it's ridiculous that some people pretend it's not woke so they can continue to pretend that woke is bad for earnings and popularity.Like 90% of the characters are gay, and all cultures are multicultural without any explanation, it's as if the setting people are just born as a random race.
>>748916001There's one totally gay character (Astarion). The rest are "playersexual" because it's a sandbox RPG. You do not need to make the game gay, even if gay paths are available to you.I don't see how all cultures are multicultural when the Gith and Illithid are very clearly monolithic empires.Different species/races coexisting is not the same thing as all cultures being multicultural. Outside of uncontacted tribes, I'm not sure there's a place out there that doesn't have travelers from different walks of life. And most cities are certainly multicultural even if cultures are distinct and even if there is a prevailing culture.
>>748915994>but their existence is not wokeyes it literally is, you need to realize that youve been brainwashed by the society you were born into. In the media that existed before you were born homosexuality was not allowed, you couldnt let people even say homosexuality was ok. >>748916231>The rest are "playersexual" because it's a sandbox RPG.this is objectively wrong, shadowheart lusts after other female characters and im sure karlach does too but I do not even talk to her so I dont get the reddit rubbed off onto me. And even ignoring that, playersexual is gay. There are no normal friendships in this game because all the characters hit on you so they can only be gay, there is no pretending they are straight.
>>748916483Brother, people have been committing homosexual acts since civilization started. Ancient Greeks literally groomed boys under the guise of developing stronger platonic bonds. I say this with no judgment, but it's a fact.Just because something was once verboten does not mean it did not exist. Acknowledging that something exists is not "woke" as the word is used in academic fields. "Woke" ideology is a particular type of lionization of minorities, and a commitment to fix perceived inequities. It has to do with progressive criticism of harm caused by institutional, societal, and cultural impediments for which justice in the form of equitable results must be carried out.You are uneducated on the matter. I'm telling you this as someone who thinks "woke" culture is silly.I have no idea if Shadowheart lusts after other females because that wasn't the experience in my playthrough. I did not choose options that would encourage Astarion and Gale and so on to hit on me. I believe Wyll tried to court me with his dancing skills, but I told him he was barking up the wrong tree and it never happened again.Similarly, I've had gay dudes hit on me in real life. I let them know that I'm not the one and they accept it and move on. People are mostly cool.I vividly remember my playthrough being full of friendships except for Shadowheart, who I romanced. It sounds to me like you're literally picking gay options and then whining about getting gay responses. And it's not some hidden trap, either, and you're never not able to say no. It's a truly unpersuasive argument.
>>748916894>I vividly remember my playthrough being full of friendships except for ShadowheartYou cannot avoid the male NPCs coming onto you if you try to be their friend. Its literally a scripted event where the male NPCs will hit on you and you have to turn them down. Enjoy you game man, the LGBT community adores it for its diverse representation and it tackling important issues like immigration. Keep your head in the sand and pretend its actually a chud game for big boys.
>>748916231Several companions make gay comments to you without you asking for it. And a shit ton of NPC's are gay.Humans, elves, dwarves etc. are completely random if they're black, white, brown, yellow, as if they just pop out as a random race when born, it's not like black humans come from a different place than white humans. That's what I mean by multicultural.
BG3 desperately needs a roguelike module, the one that’s out there sucks balls
>>748900053It is not.Baldurans Gay 3 is a bad game and a terrible BG.I've been playing CRPG since fallout 1 and BG3 is genuinely as bad as DAV actually. You can't compare it with proper CRPGs like Underrail, TaoD, RT, Arcanum, WOTR, BG1-2, Fallout 1-2, Colony ship, because this game is woke as fuck, linear as fuck, has a terrible millennial writing with shot ton of modernisms, has boring plot and quirky chungus charactersIt is a bad game that actively harms the genre and completely annihilates the once beloved seriesFuck Ben Swine
>>748900053Overrated game. And Jrpg > Crpg.
>>748917151You're making a claim that does not appear to be universally true. If you want to be taken seriously, then give it evidentiary support. All I can say is I confidently remember avoiding almost all the gay interactions I see a certain subset of /v/ constantly complain about. The "immigration" issue with tieflings is similarly unnecessarily politicized. Tieflings have always existed in RPGs. You see a bunch in Planescape: Torment, which is from like 30 years ago; one of them is a main party member. Furthermore, I don't see what's "woke" about immigration. Border control does not mean closed borders, even in Orthodox-Christian Slavic nations. Refugee crises have been a diplomatic and political issue with various relief-based resolutions for many recorded centuries.>>748917159Maybe. I honestly can't say I remember if a sassy comment was thrown out now and then. I think Astarion refers to Tav as "darling," but that's just how gays talk. I've heard that in real life. It doesn't mean they're about to propose their butthole to me.I genuinely don't recall whether all humanoids have equally distributed skin colors in all sections of the game, though it is a high fantasy setting and—again—even games as old as Planescape have skin tone variations (not to mention strong female characters).Really, the fundamental issue here is the corruption of what "woke" means by a small (and irrelevant) population of hateful people.
>>748917698I'm not hateful though. I just dislike wokeness it ruins immersion for ideological reasons.
>>748917524>linear as fuck7/10 bait has to be believable
>>748917524I look forward to playing Arcanum, WOTR, and BG1-2 someday. Certainly heard strong praise. It'll be interesting to compare the old BGs with BG3 in particular.>>748917786Would you like to recommend some excellent non-woke RPGs? I'm always looking to add to my to-play list. I'm considering Tyranny or Age of Decadence next.
>>748917874I've played the game multiple times. If you did your goody two-shoes playthrough then you've already seen 99% of what games has to offer. This game doesn’t work on the principle of choosing between option A and option B. Instead, you choose whether to see both A and B simultaneously, or just A. In other words, there is a linear narrative, and you can unlock extra pieces of it by making wrong decisions. There are no alternative paths.
>>74890005320 million cunts, niggers, faggots and trannies can love the shit out of this game, but it is a mediocre rpg with woke writing that is using the name of an already completed video game story to boost itself
>>748900053>It doesn't have the best main story,It certainly doesntit also doesnt have the best subplotsor character arcsor dialogue writingor any good writing for that matter>but the handcrafted worldUltima 7 and Morrowind called. What is this? 2001?>litany of unique NPCsNone of which are memorable with the exception of maybe the main cast (which you want to forget cause they are all extremely gay)> combat mechanics, i mean it's D&D5It's probably the best part about the game>companion depth anal depth maybethat certainly matters in BG3>are near-indisputably the high points of the genrefar from itBG3 is a solid D&D5 combat simulator with social skill rolls, but beyond that it's extremely overhypedprobably because it was made for women and homosexualsAnd yes, this IS a problem in this game. BG3 is extremely gay and if you are a normally developed person you dont wanna go on an adventure with any of these characters.
>>748918148What do you consider the gold standard for RPGs (particularly CRPGs)?
>>748917934I like dragon age origins and mass effect 1 a lot. Expedition 33 was amazing as well.
Besides a couple CRPGs like Kotor and NWN no dialogue in any game compares to the Baldur's Gate series. You play some shitty crpg like Pillars of Eternity or Pathfinder and it's like some homeless drunk Australian wrote it.

>>748918512Yeah DA:O has a lot of issues and also gameplay bugs, that's a game they should remaster and fix the broken stuff in, surprised they haven't done it.Mass Effect kinda lost me as it went on, I still had a decent time with the second game but the third one I never got into. I might give the entire series another shot eventually, the tone shifts a lot in the second game.
This is what Larian did
>>748918760There is a tone shift and the new storyline is not entirely earned IMO, but I was just so deeply bought in on the universe. Unfortunately, it seems that the crunch culture led to them taking a lot of shortcuts. Frankly, I think it should have been a 4- or 5-part game where they took their time connecting all the dots. But even still, I absolutely love the world that was created. I find it really inspirational.Hopefully you find satisfaction in your replay.
>>748918954If you give DA:O another try there are some good mods on nexus that fixes some of the issues.
>>748918227Depends on the subfeatureAs far as writing goes it's probably VtMB or MorrowindFor interactivity, probably Ultima 7 and way behind it Gothic 2. BG3 isn't too bad here, cause it builds on Divinity (which is inspired by exactly that part of Ultima 7), but as I said, it's far from a highpoint in the genre.Combat depends on what you want. As far as turnbased encounter design goes BG3 is probably tied with Knights of the Chalice there. As i said, here it isn't too bad.And for companions it's probably Planescape. All in all it's probably VtMB. It has shit combat but the rest is so good that it outweighs that weakness.BG3 is exactly the opposite. It has good combat but the writing is so shit it really drags it down.

I particularly like how Morte's and Dak'kon's stories are developing, and I'm very intrigued by Fall-From-Grace. Hopefully Anna's and Nordom's story deepen as well. I will say, however, that I equally enjoyed Shadowheart's story, and Lae'zel's is probably only a hair below Dak'kon's for me. I also really enjoyed Astarion's and think Wyll had awesome but squandered potential.I played a little bit of VtMB years back. I think I had just gotten to the second part of the main city (there's a night club). I should pick it up and try again. It definitely seemed really cool and had an excellent atmosphere.

>>748900053It is very good, incredible with how deep it is and to what degree it respects player freedom, but the sex stuff is weird and very uncomfortable. Every character in your party wants to bone you and it makes it feel like a weird hippie free for all, it really drives home that no matter how well made the game is, in the end it is just another manchild wish fulfillment fantasy simulator. Unironically it finally made me empathise with those feminists from years ago who were getting mad about video games "appealing to the male fantasy", BG3 made me viscerally cringe in such a way that I finally get what they meant.Probably lots of anons will want to crucify me for saying that but I'm sure some of you get what I mean
I'm over 1k hours in already and haven't even nearly tried all the stuff I want to try yet. Doing a Tactician run now in preparation for an Honor mode run.Perfect game for me. Turn based, no pressure. Love it.
>>748904824Its the best power fantasy rpg ever made, and its not even close, every time mythic power theme is being played you know someones ass is about to be obliterated. If you're going in blind id honestly recommended morts begginers guide, because its not a begginer friendly game. Also, toy box and bubble buff are mandatory
>>748900053It's the only RPG I've played more than three times. I stop playing most games after I finish them and never come back.
>>748925082> and bubble buffYou did not beat the game
>>748900053Yeah I've been saying this since 2 years. This post is saved into a notepad for me because every few days someone asks the same question.Greatest RPG of the past decade, easily.Top tier gameplay; amazing combat, rich interactivity, great rpg mechanics, superb encounter design, tons of freedomGreat world design: Level design with good depth, a lot of unique areas, exploration is fun and rewarding, nothing is filler all is killer, immersive sim and sandbox elements well integrated into a crpg, amazing level of verticality and layout.Good writing; engaging dialogue that keeps you entertained with its neat options, great characters, fun main story to keep things going, amazing side quests, memorable characters.Great art style and visuals; varied environments, beautiful landscapes, beautiful character design that is diverse and detailed.Great presentation; cinematics that are top tier in its genre, everything is voiced and the performance/acting is amazing.Great musicGreat replay valueAll acts are great for different reasons, a long game that doesnt lose its steam and recycle its content, justifies its length.
>>748917934>Certainly heard strong praiseYeah dont expect much, i got baited 2 years ago into a lot of those Crpgs and most of them were utter garbage. They always shared common failures.1) They are always janky trash that barely work, full of bugs and need tons of patches and mods to fix their flaws. (but sure they are 10/10 masterpieces lmfao)2)They always have bad combat; the retard fans claim that its the story that matters, yet at least 80% of them have forgettable and mediocre stories without memorable characters or any actual good theme exploration, they make Jrpgs stories look like Shakspear3)They are all very ugly, they look ugly and sound ugly, almost none of them have good soundtrack, unlike their Jrpg counterparts, their character and world design is hideous as well. It appears Crpg devs cant into art direction4)Most of the choices dont even matter, they always give you a wall of text and then 10 choices but they are actually 3 or 2 at best.5)Their level design is shallow and laughable, compared to any good immersivesim or good fps, the level/world design is really bad, its like the dev took an RTS map and thrown it into the game.6)No good boss fights, going back to combat/gameplay the bosses in these games are shit, and enemies are all generic and boring, a pack of wolves, some soldiers/warriors, or some kind of bug. 7)Shiton of quests that dont matter to the story and only 10% of them are worth the time.8)Most of them end at their build selection, beyond making a build put together there's nothing for you to play or explore.Crpg fans love to make fun of normie Rpgs like Skyrim, New Vegas and Witcher 3 but those are miles ahead of 95% of Crpgs, at least they have some merit. I played those Crpgs and i was shocked how bad they are, yet the way their fans talk about them you would assume they are 10/10 masterpieces of Roleplaying.I got into the genre thanks to Divinity OS2, and then i loved bg3, i looked for more Crpgs (played 18 so far)
>>748900053It was high-white, yes.
>>748919181>As far as writing goes it's probably VtMB or MorrowindWhats so good about VTMB & Morrowind writing? You sound like a Larping faggot.Fuck you and your kind.
>>748900383>It's hard to find fault in the game.I love the game but the story is objectively retarded. The overarching narrative is the worst part of the game by a significant margin. Unlike a lot of people, I actually really liked Act 3, but again it is objectively unfinished with questlines that just don't go anywhere, a lot of clearly rushed content, and one obviously cut zone that is directly referred to in dialogue and was supposed to be accessible. I really hope that someday in the future they return to BG3 and make a definitive edition but I don't think that is possible due to licensing issues.
>>748900383BG2 and DOS2 are better, BG3 is made for foids and gamer dads that have never touched a CRPG before
>>748928027at least we're going to get god-tier kino with the new Divinity. this will be Larian at the height of its powers
>>748928078lol no.Almost all the BG2 fans i know irl are gamer dads, nobody who is young likes this dogshit game.
>>748900053The only thing I'll say for sure is that BG3's main story does not hold a candle to Planescape's. Other than that, I think you can make a reasonable argument for it being best in class in all other areas.
>>748928078BG2 is genuine slop I don't know how anyone can think it is better than BG3, way less RPG companions barely do anything bog-standard story and it is absolutely hideous aesthetically. The worst part about it is how boring it is you're just walking around aimlessly in huge maps and when you're in narrow-er areas the characters are CONSTANTLY getting stuck on each other or retarded pathing going across the map. this opinion that BG2 is better than BG3 is genuine proof that this board are full of contrarians
>>748928310when I played BG1 I thought it was so awful until I did the other campaign and all of a sudden the art style got a lot better, the companions got a lot better, and the story got a lot more interesting. and then I later learned that was DLC added to the game like a decade+ after release and predictably the retards on this board thought it was garbage even though it is absolutely the only almost-good content in the entire game
>>748928747whoa... that world building is simply... ebin
>>748901464I'm confident it will be frontloaded like BG3 and DOS2.
>>748902408You truly felt no love for any of these brave, loyal, and lovely creatures who followed you to the ends of life itself?
>>748900389seething trannies didn't like this post
>>748900053>handcrafted world>litany of unique NPCsThat's literally what every god damn CRPG that came before and after BG3 had. Fucking retard.>combat mechanicsD&D5ed isn't great, and turn based is always very sluggish and slow - especially when you implement the element of hit-chance - it is also not helped that there are no ways in which to speed up combat either.>companion depthBitching and moaning and insisting upon themselves is fucking obnoxious. There's a reason Icewind Dale was popular, and it ain't because of the infinity engine; it's because you create your own full party in a 3D D&D game.>motion capture Goofy and overelaborate and very slow cinematics with voice acting on top makes things move very slow. The old fashioned dialogue box with a "next" is infinitely superior. >music is often fantasticThe music is an actual disgrace considering its heritage, the only good parts are the ones distinctly inspired by or lending heavily from Michael Hoenig's BG1-2 suites. Whoever got hired for this was an imbecile. Kirill Pokrovsky used to be the Larian go-to composer, but he died I think between Origin Sin 1 and 2, and while his music often had a peculiar goofiness to it (very Larianesque) he would have done something far better.>wokebaitingFuck you nigger. The game ain't all that. It's functional and it works. It's complex, bravo, but it is not helped by being complex and very convoluted in its controls/UI (chaining system especially)6/10 - wouldn't play a third time, but worth playing a second time through.
>>748932086*complicated and very convoluted
>>748932086>Michael Hoenig's BG1-2 suites.the BGM in those games are basically nonexistent, the combat music is awful
>>748932086nobody cares mad chud
>>748918148>It's probably the best part about the gamekys
>>748932756People like you, who know nothing about music are easily wowed and swayed by gimmicks of production. The compositions of bg3 are very bad and bland. For a game of its budget, that is unacceptable.>>748932786You cared enough to give me my (you)
>>748933304telling someone their opinion is meaningless isn't the same as caring. you can try to pretzel logic your way into coping but the truth is no one will remember you sperging out 300 replies deep into the thread and nobody cares about your special gamer taste
>>748933404You will
>>748933304I actually remember the soundtrack of BG3 even though I haven't played it for years, I am literally playing BG2 right now and I could not tell you even 1 track it just loops the same awful combat music for 50 hours now
>>748933717Well you're not white, so it's no wonder that girl-music run through a medieval-core filter makes your tits squirt
>>748913960Bhaal ending is coolerhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nj5ZYutAJ9M
>if you don't like what I like, you're not white and you have no taste>even though I'm a self-hating neet whose taste has 0 effect on what becomes popular and historically celebratedget a load of this vitriolic ESL dork
>>748900053Yes. Because CRPGs have always been garbage.
>>748900053>some crpg about raping bears won game of the yearstill crazy to me how dead the AAA industry is
I liked it in spite of the faggot shit
>>748934023this was well done but I'd never be able to play this way. just watching it made me a little queasy. I know it's just pixels but I can't bring myself to commit these types of actions
>>748933876I am literally a white boy, do we not want good memorable soundtrack? It isn't just epic music it has less bombastic music at appropriate moments like when you're killing goblins it has a nice drum beat like goblins banging their war drums, and then more epic music at appropriate moments like killing a chosen. You'd have to be a really massive miserable faggot to not appreciate Raphael's motif. And let's take it a step further: BG3 is superior to BG1/2 in every conceivable way. What exactly does BG2 do better than BG3? These older type games usually at least have a more engaging plotline, but can you really say that for BG2. The only semi-interesting plot beat I've seen so far after 43.2 hours is choosing between the vampires and the thieves but saying that was interesting is being very generous
>>748928278Planescape and Disco Elysium are in a league of their own when it come to writing (and Disco is barley a game); they transcend the medium Comparing vidya to them is just unfair
>>748913960this was awesome. I didn't play Dark Urge so I never saw this
>>748934350I love it. The Bhaal ending allows me to play a somewhat "good" durge that doesn't resist.
>>748913960Geralt is Bhaal?
>>748900053>>748900383I think it shows how the only thing holding back the CRPG genre is presentation. I love BG3, it's easily my most-played game of the past decade, but it doesn't do anything really amazing or new in its gameplay. And its writing is good, but again, not anything amazing or unprecedented. It's the combination of being a fun CRPG with a solid story and good characters and also having a really polished, cinematic presentation where every non-PC character has voiced dialogue and there are tons of rendered cutscenes for every possible decision.
>>748939438Veilguard was a shitty game, so people zeroed in on the weird culture war shit. Baldur's Gate 3 was a great game, so people are willing to overlook the weird culture war shit. If BG3 was as bad as Veilguard, people would be mocking the transgender character from Shadowheart's questline the same way we mock the transgender character from Veilguard.
