Why were the first GTA games so hard?
>>
People used to have higher IQ back then.
People nowadays need a tutorial on how to walk crouch
>>
>>748901981
People weren't used to have that many help nor assist.
>>
No dude, no way dude, I got super copped
>>
>>748901981
Both London games have unreasonable time limits

Lack of control. In GTA 3 and VC you couldn't bail out of a car, it had to be fully stopped for you to get out. You couldn't manually aim a majority of the weapons. You had to stand still to shoot. Also the control layout was just not very good. Ports/remasters "fixed" these issues and the games become very easy because of it.
>>
>>748901981
the hyper arcade nature of gta 3 made the game feel very clunky at times
>>
>>748901981
>Why were the first GTA games so hard?
You were 5 years old.
>>
>>748903398
The car health in the original trilogy is so ass, and San Andreas is totally overrated
>>
>>748901981
>Why were the first GTA games so hard?
That's the third GTA game if you don't count stuff like London.
>>
>>748903612
And his point still stands.

the last gta game is pretty hard too
>>
Any 3D GTA isn't one of the first GTAs.
>>
>>748901981
Best proof that old games were dogshit no matter how much some anons keep praising them.
>>
>>748901981
Different design philosophy. Letting the player fail was not yet considered a game design flaw back then.
>>
>>748901981
Technology, lack of experience and a different industry mentality. Now it's more important that the player has fun and an experience that is tailored to them back then it was either the devs' vision or they just didn't have the experience to make it more than a 12 hour assrape and you were shit out of luck.
>>
>>748903863
The games being open world is enough. A sandbox with guns since cheats are also part of the expirience and you can just activate them before a mission. Just note you won't get the achievements.
>>
>>748903398
>In GTA 3 and VC you couldn't bail out of a car, it had to be fully stopped for you to get out
That's only the case with 3, VC added the ability to exit a moving vehicle
>>
>>748901981
rockstar found out that most players are fucking awful at games, especially when it comes to driving so they made car handling more stable and made the more durable with each subsequent entry
3 still has the most satisfying driving feel of the original trilogy

I replayed gta 4 for the deal ending and the final mission was so annoying
I tried taking the other boat on my next attempt just in case to avoid the missile. Got mission failed on that one too because you HAVE to use the boat indicated on the minimap
>>
>>748904576
It's been a while since I played VC, so I couldn't be too sure. My bad.
>>
>>748905156
>Got mission failed on that one too because you HAVE to use the boat indicated on the minimap
That's bullshit that annoys me to no end. Especially in GTA IV since IIRC it had loads of missions with alternative ways to complete them.
>>
>>748901981
lack of checkpoints, they werent really that hard. just tedious when you die.
look at any glitchless speedrun and you'll realize how simple and easy they actually are
>>
>>748903656
thats hard af
>>
>One of the first quests in gta 3 is killing some niggas from a car
>You go punching them
>They're equipped with uzis and blow you out in 1 second
Same shit with like the 4th quest in 4 being about fighting a nigga with a knife and you go there with nothing in your hands.
>>
>>748905727
the hard part about 3 is that car health is maybe 1/3 of the latter games. which wasn't so bad back then, but playing 3 after vice city or san andreas is pure suffering.
>>
>>748905156
Taking the deal is such a bad time.
>shit mission
>Roman dies
>Kate leaves Niko
>you get the money anyway in a follow up mission if you don't take the deal
I kinda wish they'd actually confirm that revenge was the canon ending.
>but Niko wishes Roman a happy birthday on Lifeinvader
People do that for dead friends/family all the time and it's also possible it could've been an automated message.
>>
>>748905860
>he didn't bring a brick or a gun to the knife fight
Skill issue.
>>
>Fifth GTA game
>"first GTA games"
>>
>>748904117
Terrible argument.
>clunky game systems = hueh we want you to have skill!
No. Vice City came out shortly after and it doesnt suffer from most of the issues that 3 had.
>>
>>748901981
GTA3 is fucking retarded in those last few missions, I got up to the coffee stalls mission and had to stop
>>
>>748906407
Roman dying is canon. Why would you kill an innocent woman who never hurt anyone?
>>
>>748908740
Neither ending is confirmed canon. Kate dying causes less total grief than Roman dying.
>>
>>748905862
Trying to complete the ambulance missions after completing the main missions so every gang member pulls you out of the ambulance constantly :-(

They aren’t tho?

>>
>>748909089
How does a gambling addict cuck dying cause less grief than an innocent lady from a gangster family? Are you retarded?
>>
>>748906585
I wasnt given the opportunity to get anything, I shouldn't need to follow a guide to do one of the first quests in a game, for God's sake...

but glitchless speedruns are great for learning certain games regardless of retards running them
>>

>>
>>748909824
That's not a tutorial. It doesn't interrupt the gameplay at all.

He's been cleaning up his act and would be leaving behind a more innocent pregnant widow. The fact that Kate fucks off immediately after the wedding drive-by shows that she's not so innocent and not that good of a person, let alone wife.
>>

It's called a tooltip, not a tutorial
>>
>>748909089
packie leaves LC because his sister dies
>>
>>748910559
How do you know that? His sister doesn't die, Roman dies.
>>
>>748910537
it's still a tutorial just not a tutorial segment
>>
The car health of GTA3 was always rough. It's why trying to do side activities inside vehicles (paramedic, vigilante, etc) is impossible after you anger the gangs, you can have your car burning after a shotgun blast or two.
>>
>>748910559
I recently did a replay of 5 with Packie in every heist and I don't remember a single line mentioning Kate.

I like the you can't see cops on the minimap in GTAVI. Playing pacman with the cops made it too easy.
>>
>>748911097
V is a spinoff, it's not a GTA game. Anything that happens in there is not canon.
>>
>>748901981
cops were fucking insane in those games and would slam into your car at 100 mph trying to spin you out, whoever was playing this should have checked behind them with the camera before slowing down and turning like they did
>>
>>748911213
Rockstar is just fucking retarded and won't commit to if the games are a single universe or if the HD games exist in some alternate dimension.
>>
This board's glazing IV and hating V is so weird. I get most of the hate for V is for Online, but they're not the same thing. IV was dogshit compared to SR2. It tried to be super cereal, but SR2 had more memorable and heartbreaking moments like Carlos, the cemetery scene, and the ultimate monster truck scene showing just how fucked up your MC is.
>>
>>748909783
>i know, because im a 6'2 gigachad
Wouldn’t have to say it on an anonymous imageboard if that were true.
>but glitchless speedruns are great
YWNBAW
>>
>>748911653
I liked IV and V about equally when I played them on release, but liked them both a lot less than the PS2 GTAs especially San Andreas.
You are right tho, Saints Row 2 is basically what I wanted GTA IV to be and is probably my favorite game in whatever genre GTA is outside of 3/VC/SA. I thought Godfather II was really fun as well.
>>
>>748911653
You can't even drive cars in V
>>
>>748911908
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKNp13NyRts

this is what sold me on SR2
the character customization is wild

>>748911929
>NOOOO WHY DOESN'T EVERY CAR HANDLE LIKE A FUCKING BOAT WHEN YOU DO A SLOW TURN

YES I will admit the handling in V is very floaty and arcadey but people who claim IV's is realistic are fucking stupid
i'm glad VI is a mix of both
>>
>>748911392
HD is definitely its own universe/timeline. You can't convince me otherwise unless Ken Rosenberg shows up in 6.
>>
>>748912127
Yes GTA IV is a little inaccurate in speed but at least the cars have weight transfer. V is ubisoft tier garbage, I've played games from the 90s with better driving.
>>
>>748912264
>a little
>>
>>748912357
whatever it's still the only gta game with reasonably well done driving
just because it's not on the level of BeamNG or Live for Speed doesn't mean it's bad. If you want to see what bad looks like look up some Ubisoft or EA games.
>>
>>748912148
Lazlow is really the only 3D era character with an actual personality who has appeared in the HD era, as far as I know. Even then he was only heard over the radio so it barely counts.

Rosenberg, CJ, Woozie, Cesar, or Claude showing up in-person (like they have a model and have a role in VI or onwards) are the only proof I will accept. Otherwise I will continue believing Rockstar rebooted GTA with IV.
>>
The lack of checkpoints makes things feel a lot harder, because failure actually has a tangible consequence. Some of the more bullshit missions can feel insanely punishing because you need to keep replaying the full thing over and over until you crack it.

Many think it’s cheap and frustrating, but to me it’s part of the charm of those games. The feeling of satisfaction when you finally see that MISSION COMPLETE text on some of the harder missions is amazing, and i don’t think I felt it once playing GTAV.

They also had to keep missions pretty tight to avoid it being mind numbing playing them over and over, which again is a major positive for me. GTAV and RDR padded missions out way too much because they knew you wouldn’t need to play the whole thing again upon failure. Virtually all the missions in the 3d trilogy are less than 5 minutes long, except the last few. It just flows much better for me.

not an argument
a tutorial pop-up is still a tutorial
>>
>>748901981
>game tells you you're hitting an armoured car

>>
>>748913581
NTA but tutorials being seen as negative is based around them taking time to complete or holding your hand or otherwise taking away your control and freedom to force you to learn a mechanic. They can also get annoying if the tutorials persist throughout the game instead of only occurring once.

Nobody has ever argued that any tutorial at all, including just showing you the controls in the corner once without taking away any control or time from the player, is a bad thing.

I have seen threads from people who couldn't solve an easy puzzle in Half Life or Half Life 2, zoomers are truly braindead
>>
Back then you had to prepare for each mission and plan accordingly. Sometimes you even had to fail several times to learn properly and even get to know every option and shortcut.
I instantly made every police mission possible + getting every drug pack I could, so I could go quickly to reduce wanted levels and get armour and weapons quickly, plus looking for any other means to lower the wanted level until I reached the nearest hideout.

A tutor will instruct you on how to do something and then watch as you demonstrate your knowledge before their job is done.

A hint in the corner while you maintain total control and freedom of action is not a TUTORial because it does not force you to complete anything before you can continue onward.
>>
>>748915489
>A tutor will instruct you on how to do something and then watch as you demonstrate your knowledge before their job is done.

a person tutoring you is not the same as a tutorial pop-up
just shut the fuck up with this hurr we were so high IQ back in the day
>>
>>748915648
We *were* much smarter gamers back then tho, it's undeniable. Games have objectively gotten less complex since the late 2000s, not on account of technical limitations but because mass audience appeal means you have to make every game playable for an 80 IQ nog.
>>
>>748916028

The missions were also pretty fucking short, even the long ones. Don't really need much of a checkpoint if you've basically only got one goal.

But it isn't 'high iq' stuff-you're not solving a chess problem you're fighting against bad controls, enemies that can kill you too easily etc
>>
>>748905584
>since IIRC it had loads of missions with alternative ways to complete them
yeah I was baffled by that shit literally the previous mission with Phill Bell has you chase a guy out of a warehouse and you can use a docked truck or an unlocked car the game leaves for you outside
>>
>>748901981
I feel like GTA 3 was the last one made without normalfaggots in mind. It’s definitely more “gamey” than the stuff following that became more and more like it was trying to replicate a life sim or something that caters to brown retards.

Honestly playing gta3 was a breath of fresh air when I did it last year. The missions were hard but also short. Not alot of yapping like san andreas onward. I quite liked that to pass the one mission where you're timed to take out drug dealers you have to know the map as there isn't a map in the pause screen, you just have the radar which only shows roads.
>>
>>748920781
t. never played GTA 3
He's got a point. It plays fast and loose, the plot doesn't take itself super seriously and most of the gameplay is rather fast. Hell, it even has an arcade-style scoring system with money being awarded to the player for blowing shit up.
Vice City was the first one for normalfags looking for an interactive movie.
>>
>>748921181
Fun fact about that mission, you can scope out every stall in the city before the timer even starts. It only begins when you attack the first one.
>>
>>748905860
This is the first time that I learn that you actually had to fight Dardan. I never had to really fight him for some reason.
