OLED or Mini-Led for gaming?
>>748905385Oled
>>748905385IPSdon't fall for marketing gimmicks
>>748905556This, why do you need a GOOD monitor? Nothing wrong with a garbage one.
>>748905595your monitor is more important than a good graphics card
>>748905435>>748905513>Bro, just turn off the monitor every 15 minutes for "monitor care">Bro, just get burn in>Bro, just replace your monitor every year because it broke>Bro, it's just money
>>748905385One of my OLEDs quickly got burn in after about a year or two of usage. I have a newer OLED in the house, but I have been using the mini LED for gaming. OLED is still fantastic, but I really can't be assed to have this second OLED fuck up with HUDs and shit from emulating older games. IMO mini LED, unless you're willing to take the burn in gamble.
where the fuck is microLED so that this discussion can die once and for all?
>>748905385if you just gayme (either competitively or single player), just get the latest gen oled with rgb stripe. If you sit on your pc all day, stick to IPS.
>>748905728ive had my oled for 3 years without burnin and constant 8h to even 12h a day gaming as a neetif you get burn in you got a cheap chink monitor for 100 dollars on amazon
>>748905728So don't use PC cause they last shorter than a console :)My PS2 outlasted many PCs!
>>748905728>bro its just moneyYeah? I usually replace my monitors with a better one every 2 to 3 years. It's just money. They cost maybe 300 dollars max, and I don't get any worries of burn in til 2nd year+ at which point I'm already replacing it anyways. If you can't afford 300 dollars every 2 or 3years you're retarded
>>748905513weird, the blacks in that pic look perfectly fine on my shitty LCD monitor
Don't fall for the glossy hype
>>748905852I don't think it will come to cheap consumer electronics at all.I think we will jump straight to QDEL.
>>748907061I live in a basement. Daylight isn't a problem.
>>748905990I got burn in on my C4 with less than 1k hours of use
Things you need to get used to in order to use OLED:-Burn in-VRR Flicker-PWM-Text fringing on 1440p-Purple tint on older QD-Oleds-Pixel refreshes-Hide your taskbar-No static elements for too long-Grey banding on WOLEDS-Reflections on glossy monitorsAnything else im missing?
>>748907553Don't forget-Needing to pull down the curtains and darken your entire room every time you game
>>748905385>or
>>748907061Yeah I hate seeing my ugly ass every time the screen goes dark, puts a bit of a damper on those 'deep blacks'
>>748905385>OLED>look inside>its just plasma reskinned; same burn in, same darks, same motion clarity etc
>>748907943>same burn inUnlike shitleds good Plasma didn't get permanent damage, you could easily get rid of any burn in with cleaning videos from youtube.
>>748906862Try this retard, take an image and apply a red filter over it and the same image without a red filter. Now wear red glasses and tell me which is less red
>>748908425>do all of this shituh, no bro.
tempted to drop $1000 on this monitor but id be pissed if it burned in after a few years
oleds are an iq testif you're not retarded you should have no issues taking basic precautions
ok but what if im autistic and only play one game with the same static hud elements in the same spot all the time
>>748910346>OLEDs will never experience burn in400 IQ
>>748905728>an OLED is $500 and burns every 3-4 years of HEAVY useare you really that fucking poor? my condolences
>>748910346Seriously this, how hard is it to understand that games with a dynamic hud, a dark room and not leaving it at the brightest level means you're basically never gonna have screen burn-in?I've had my LG-C1 since day one and that shit's been great and no sign of screen burn.
>>748909932>burned inNo icons in desktopDesktop background alternates every 20 minHidden toolbar until mouse-overScreen saver comes on after 3 minutes of non-useZero burn in after three years. I took more precautions on my old 15" CRT monitor than my new OLED. It's basic stuff.
>>748910875all that is obvious but i only play one or two games with the same static hud elements. seems like a recipe for disaster
>>748911054It is. You can take every precaution and it won't matter, my LG C1 has burn in despite meticulous care. Anyone pretending they will never get burn in is a retard.
just boughed a C6 and a G50SF, I finally joined modernity after years of LCD displays
>>748905385imo oled is good if you have a three monitor setup. I wouldn't use oled as my main monitor and only use it for movies and gaming. You can use the other two monitors for your use that you don't need to look nice.Unless you're rich, then you can just have OLEDs all around and replace them every two years.
Pure blacks are a meme that only has purpose on phones because it saves battery. Even crts were not actually fully black unless you would play in fully dark room.
OLEDs are great for porn, a gooning game changer.
>>748905385IPS
>>748911573We didn't ask for the opinions of the poor
>>748911160I can't see any burn in on my CX but to be fair, i also run it entirely at like 0 brightness with the contrast turned down watching youtube videos because as it turns out i prefer gaming on my miniLED monitor>>748911275How is 'the display can represent a greater variance of brightnesses' a meme? That is the whole point of HDR you stupid twat. As opposed to LCDs with a single backlight that can only display a very bright, glowy kind of grey-blue colour
>>748911167rize and chino wouldn't want you saying boughed
>>748911684oleds cant even reach the nits for good HDR retard
>>748911685Oh? Does that bougher you?
>>748911660Nor will i ask for the opinions of people enslaved to their fucking monitors like this cuck >>748910875
>>748911769Yes which is partly why, as stated, I am using a miniLED. OLEDs can still get pretty bright though
>>748905513/thread
>>748909932if it helps ive used an oled as a primary display since 2019 and its still not burnt in.
i've burned in crts, oleds burn in about 10 times quickeroled is disposable-tier but its pricing is only disposable-tier when it's on a phone
>>748912101i wouldnt be so concerned if i didnt autistically play the same game all the time
>>748905385Mini LED, with a warm light source behind the monitor.
>>748912752yeah, that might be an issue, i wouldn't know. i really don't keep a single game open for dozens of hours, and even though ive used my pc a ton (probably 10+ hours a day average, maybe 12) i do a lot of shit on it
If you have money, get oled.
>>748905728>>Bro, just turn off the monitor every 15 minutes for "monitor care">>Bro, just get burn in>>Bro, just replace your monitor every year because it brokeExactly NONE OF THIS ever happens though. It's not 2012, boomer.
If you enjoy your retinas burning, go MiniLED. My eyeballs are frying.
>>748905513does mini-led have the same issue of OLED?i was thinking of buying one because theyre almost the same price as IPS
Very happy with my current IPS, though I'm thinking of upgrading to one with better hdr and higher refresh rate
>>748915259They have their own issues, mainly with local dimming being a pain in the ass on monitors. Mini Led is a tv tech meant for movies and consoles, not desktop use where most of the time you will be looking at sdr content.
>>748915434Why bother with IPS when there’s OLED?
>>748915259miniled is IPS/VA with the backlight split into tiny piecesthey keep the underlying problems of those techs but at least the the screen isn't passively milky grey anymore
>>748907553-color banding-crushed blacks as oleds arent as accurate as leds-wled red glow around everything-taking 5 seconds to switch from HDR to SDR and back crashing all your apps and probably system too-almost 0 support for HDR in windows-poor color accuracy since every producer oversaturates everything as fuck
>>748915843This sounds pretty good
>>748905385If you have endless money, then OLED; if not, then MiniLED. A 75-inch MiniLED will be better than any OLED for the same price because OLED will be smaller, and size matters.
>>748905385>>748905513In reality only contrast ratio actually means anything. Your eyes have a fixed width of dynamic range so if you're not in a dark room all three of these will look equally black, but the mini-led will look drastically better because they're capable of far greater peak brightness.I know this because I "upgraded" to an OLED from a mini-led and still have buyer's remorse.
>>748905728I've had my OLED since 2020 and it still has no burn in.
>>748905385Miniled is fine because I don't play in a pitch-black room like a troll.
>>748905513I'm pretty sure miniLED can have perfect black due to local dimming, it will just have a glow around everything that is not black
Found a mini led with a pretty high nit level, vrr and high refresh rate but it isn't 4k. Price is nice but not opposed to shelling out more for better resolution when the time comes
>>748910604This is the rainbow flag of setups.
>>748909932I've been looking at a similar monitor as well, dual mode for 4k and 1080p. Thing is I have a RTX2080 so my GPU won't run 4k well. And while I do have the money to drop on an expensive monitor, I won't have enough to buy a good PC upgrade to run it, unless I go back to 1080p.
>>7489169739070xt
MiniLED for HDR. OLED for true black.
>>748919863MiniLED for generally brighter content, OLED for dark content>>748916865Depends on the algorithm. My monitor is shadow-biased, so it will tend to locally limit the brightness in contrasty content.
I bought this for $900 for my new PChttps://www.amazon.com/dp/B0FP11PC4Fdid I fuck up?
>>748921081Prolly not, but it has G-sync so you must have an Nvidia card, and to use the most of your resolution and refresh rate you absolutely need a Display Port 2.1 cable. And a friend of mine has an ASUS ROG screen too, I absolutely hate the OS of the screen. Setting it up for her was a fucking nightmare, or maybe I'm just retarded.
>olekeks ALWAYS run off the minute pic related gets posted
>>748921081Yeah and it's 10bits. Make sure you follow tutorials and guides on how to setup your GPU correctly with it, that you can easily find on Youtube.I guess you'll want HDR, that removes a bunch of config to do, but it's still a piece of work, bear that in mind.Check all the reviews and tutorials you can find on the Internet, now that you have your monitor might as well huh.
>>748922762havent more recent panels gotten better with brightness? considering buying one but on the fence due to burn in concerns
>>748905513But I can see the OLED image perfectly clear on my LCD?!
>>748905385I'm not buying your spyware, LG shill.
>>748921081>$900you could have bought an oled tv at that price lol oled monitors are so cucked compared to their tv counterparts its not even funny
>>748922872nope monitors still get cucked, if you want real hdr brightness buy a tv
BEHEAD THOSE WHO INSULT MINI-LED
>>748907553>-PWMThis should be illegal
>>748905385>>748909932OLEDs for movies and pure gaming are FINE.But for desktop use and internet browsing? STAY THE FUCK AWAY.At least wait until RGB-Stripe OLEDs hit the market so you don't have to puke every time you have to read text.
>>748923271unfortunately only apple knows how to make a decent mini led monitor
>>748923467so oled is for console shitters ok get it
>>748922872>havent more recent panels gotten better with brightness? No. OLED tech is basically the same it was 10 years ago.We just added more damage control to the monitors.
>>748923676>so oled is for console shitters ok get itBasically, yes.
>>748922762Fake. OLED has infinite brightness.
>>748923674That is because they demand retina as a means to hardware unfuck their shit tier text rendering and need absurd pixel density (and thus need loads of local dimming zones) to solve a problem everyone else solved 20 years ago.
>>748923931If OLEDs go too bright for too long, you literally damage the organic diodes irreparably.
>>748922773>>748922492I have an amd card and I'm Linuxdo I need to do anything besides enabling vrr in KDE and on the monitor itself?
>>748923467OLEDs + text = cancer
>>748905385just go on maketplace and find a CRT Monitor instead. your card can't push all those graphics at 1440p/4k 144hz or whatever the fuck just play in 1600x1200 and run it at the 75hz which your card is actually capable of.
>>748905385mini-LED image quality and colors have improved a lot in recent years
>>748923996>problem everyone else solved 20 years ago.i dont think windows got that memo because text looks dogshit
>>748905385I have a gen4 WOLED and idk if I'd get another one. RGBstrip may solve the text slightly fringing but the grainy greys are something you have to get used to and I see more grey than black using dark mode. Uniformity of grey got better over time for me but it's not perfect and before someone shits on WOLED QD OLED have purple tint issues when light shines on them. The response time is nice I can't deny this but you need a good GPU for decent frame times otherwise you'll get VRR flicker or cope with FPS caps. Thing with miniled is that there are only some Chinese manufacturers and it's not a given that they sell their monitors to the west especially not the latest versions.
Do OLEDs have PWM flicker like some cheap phones?
>>748924595cleartype works but needs calibration
>>748924837yes but less noticeable on TVs
>>748916865Correct, only in extreme scenarios is the difference between a high-end MiniLED and OLED noticable (full screen star fields are a prime example)for the majority of content you would be hard pressed to tell the difference due to the way our eyes naturally bloom brightness on dark backgrounds.
>>748907553Extremely aggressive hardware-level ABL that causes a noticeably steep peak brightness curve in HDR
>>748922872on less than 10% windows, yes.but as soon as you go over 10% the peak brightness drops off a cliff. Full screen peak brightness is still absolutely pathetic and very distracting for HDR depending on the content.
>>748923931I know you're just trolling, but it's actually "infinite contrast" and its one of the most egregious marketing gimmicks ever created to sell tech to luddites.
>>748905385Mini LED. OLED is literally not worth the fucking maintenance.
>>748924164I don't know about your Linux specifics but I'm pretty sure without Nvidia you won't be able to enjoy G-sync. AMD does Freesync, but not G-sync.
>>748905385OLED actually kinda sucks for gaming specifically since video games often have many static elements on the screen at all times, like the hud and shit. OLED was basically made for movies and shows because those tend to constantly switch up visuals meaning you never really risk burn-in happening. Until they can figure out how to achieve those deeper blacks and higher quality colors without the expense of static elements eventually raping the screen, it just isn't worth it for video games.
>>748923127oled tvs are stuck at 120hz retard>>748924164https://rog.asus.com/uk/monitors/27-to-31-5-inches/rog-swift-oled-pg32ucdmr/says it has freesync right there
>>748905385Mini led for gaming. OLED for movies.Gaming has too many static elements for OLED and you will get burn in, no matter what the OLED shills here say. Unless you baby it every step of the way and who wants to do that. Like enjoy not having a wallpaper and having to have a pitch black screen so it doesn't burn into your display lmao.
>>748916510>In reality only contrast ratio actually means anything.Fast-IPS mini-LEDs have a contrast ratio of 4000:1 while OLEDs have 1 000 000:1 or 1 500 000:1. You'll have to revise your shill angle.
OLED is wasted on PC's because Windows/Linux etc HDR support is complete fucking dogshit and a lot of PC games don't even support it.
>>748927623OLED is wasted on consoles because they can barely reach 120 Hz and even that only when running last gen or indie games. OLED motion clarity scales with VHz so enslaving them to 60 FPS machines is ridiculous.
>>748905385OLED is a planned obsolescence trap once used to make sure normgroids keep buying TVs. However, turns out that people like buying new TVs every few years anyway (they must be better cause newer!), so the gimmick is completely unnecessary. Any vestiges of OLED still in use come from retards who ate up the publicity.
>>748927757No one really gives a shit about 120Hz unc.
>>748927864Yeah I know. It's 165 Hz and up. 240 Hz OLED monitors are 500€. Consolefags lick rocks with 120Hz.
>>748927864I'm enjoying 120 FPS in my video games. Enjoy your 30 FPS slop.
Reminder if "burn in" really wasn't "a thing" anymore. How come TV companies still don't include it in their warranty. Checkmate OLED shills.
>>748928043Monitors are easier to burn-in yet companies like LG and Dell offer a 2 or 3 year burn-in warranty respectively for their OLED monitors. What a stupid fucking argument.
QD Mini-LED is king, all the advantages of OLED and no chance at all of burn in.
>>748928241>only 3 years
I got a CRT about 3 months ago and I seriously think the hipster hype isn't even a meme, I've been using for everything except netflix since I got it. Mainly I've been playing old games I haven't played in years and seeing if they feel any different to how I remember on an LCD. I noticed in Max Payne 2 (other games also use the same effect), during the dream sequences, the screen shimmer which looks like blurry shit on digital displays, looks absolutely gorgeous on a CRT. When you move the camera round a bright light in a dark room, there is a brief, faint, glowing streak that follows the movement of the light. It's strange that your brain adjusts to the low resolution almost immediately, and maybe even fills in the gaps somewhat to trick your eye into thinking it's clearer than a 1080p display. Since there's only been about 4 good videogames produced and released to market in the last 10 years, I only play games that visually complement this display technology. The lack of input lag is good, but it only became noticeable for me when I played something on a LCD and it felt borderline unplayable. So I think CRT is a great choice if you mainly play unc slop, even if you're a zoomer
>>748927569Yeah I'm retarded I said that wrong. Basically I'm saying infinite contrast obtained by dividing by zero is incredibly misleading. An OLED could have 50 nits or 500 nits or 5000 nits of peak brightness but its contrast ratio will always be infinity. But a mini led with only 2000:1 contrast ratio will probably produce a more vivid and lifelike picture.
>>748928428The average PC monitor has a warranty period of 2 to 3 years. LG and Dell just explicitly cover burn-in.
>>748928383RGB Mini-LED is becoming the new thing.
>>748928383Can these do local-dimming on SDR content without absolutely ruining the image? Most mini-LED manufacturers recommend using the monitor as a normal IPS for 99.9% of content
>>748928532My monitor usage is mainly OLED monitor > CRT TV > OLED TV because anything outputting HDMI is just a one way street to coma town.
>>748928751Yes, but only the high end ones. You'd want flagship Sony/TCL TVs.
