Most people like to bring up the Virtual Boy as being the forgotten Nintendo console, but it was really this. It's much more rare and interesting.

The N64 is not rare or interesting and N64DD is an add-on, not a console you stupid ESL freak.
>>
It's a little too rare to be interesting
>>
It was released in only one country, in one language, and had like 5 games.
>>
>>748913925
Anon... It had 3 games...
>>
The DD is rare but it certainly isn't interesting. If anything, it fucked over Nintendo's later gen 5 into gen 6 output by being such a piece of shit flop that everything planned for it was cancelled and it was a huge waste of time and resources.
>>
>>748912854
It's just an add-on.
With no games.

fuck off moron

wtf is that a vcr?
>>
>>748913925
more worthwhile games than VB
>>748914086
It was a fake flop though. Nintendo had it finished way longer before they released it.

It's a disc drive for n64 because sony ass raped them with their cutting age console that can read discs.
I said discs but they look like this because nintendo is bunch of pussie and theyre afraid people are going to burn their own cd's to play games.

I found a copy of simcity64 in Japan but the dd itself is like $4,000

Try turning your monitor on.

surprised AVGN never covered this thing at any point

He doesn't have enough time to cover the DD

Would have made a good followup video after the Sega CD and 32X, or the Virtual Boy. But honestly... What games does this thing even have that are worth talking about? Not to mention with how expensive this thing is, I can only imagine the games are even rarer, so it probably would have cost too much. It's an interesting footnote of Nintendo's history, but not very interesting as a product, so there's not much more to say about it. I think the fact it didn't release outside of Japan likely influenced that decision to refrain from making a video.

I understand your point but n64 games can be 64mb max and ps1 games can reach couple GB's since you can change cd's mid game. n64 was more powerful than ps1 too they just shot themselves in the foot because theyre greedy bastards

NTA, and not to ignore the point you're making, but CDs came with their own drawbacks. Long loading times, and if your disc got scratched for whatever reason, then you're just straight up fucked. Or hell, your disc could be perfectly fine with no scratches and still be unplayable, because CDs back in the day were notoriously shit. That happened to me as a kid.

>they just shot themselves in the foot because theyre greedy bastards
Sony were the "greedy bastards" who wanted full licensing on the Nintendo Playstation in exchange for the CD drive, meaning control over what games get released, which was obviously unacceptable to Nintendo. That's why Nintendo tried going to Panasonic instead behind their back. But since Sony is the mainstream normie favorite because of their consumer electronics like the Walkman and Discman, etc. and there has always been a hate boner for Nintendo people just reduce the story down to "Nintendo bad" and blame them 100% when the reality is more complicated.
And like >>748916731 said discs had their own drawbacks and look at the AAA blockbuster bloat it has enabled decades later. The only thing you really missed out on with N64 cartridges were FMVs and anime cutscenes and extensive VA.
