Is it worth trying to get into programming nowadays or is vibe coding the better path?
>>
>>748916498
Understanding programming will make you more powerful with LLMs
>>
>>748916498
I was thinking of learning assembly.
That way you can hack and crack anything.
As more and more morons ride the AI wave, their value will go down and engineers will be more and more rare and valuable.
>>
>>748916498
there is no point at all in getting into LLM programming without also getting into actual programming.
the more you know about what to get done, the more mistakes by the LLM you can catch, and the more efficiently you can tell it what you want done, and the more efficiently you can organize the way you use the LLM.
There is never a reason to skip learning programming when doing programming.

If you ever have to ask "is it worth learning a new skill or should I really on easy gratification" you need to first reevaluate your soul
>>
Vibe coding is programming. AI is a tool like an IDE or a debugger that makes the job easier.
>>
>>748916498
vibecoding won't get you anywhere. llm should be used as an assistant/consultant if you want to get the most out of it without nerfing you cognitive skills

I vibe coded a Mega Man X clone, then I worked backwards to figure out how eveything works.

I managed to convert it into a 2.5D mock up after understanding it a bit more. Pretty cool.

Knowing how to actually do a task means you arent a useless cunt when you run out of tokens with your thumb up your ass.
Learning how to do things will be a lot more fun anyway, and that applies to all hobbies.

The worst thing about vibe coding is that it's going to kill dedicated game engines like Godot because whenever you ask AI to make a game it immediately defaults to making a web app for everything.

I thought AI wouldn't be able to vibe code with godot due to confusing godot 3 and 4 functions all the time

Vibe coding is worthless if you don't have some background as a programmer. Do both.
>>
>>748917709
for claude you lay out a skill so that it only looks at godot 4 functions. or 3...
basically you can hardcode certain things, tiny text documents, that it will use to avoid excessive thinking and to keep itself on track
>>
>>748916498
Not knowing how the code you're running works will turn your life into a living hell when it breaks.
People used to find this out after copy-pasting stack overflow responses, now they find it out after taking a project public and hearing about all the shit that's broken.
You don't need to be a kernel developer, you just need to understand how shit works and how to write it on your own.

Whatever you do don't waste your time with Gobot, it's a beginner trap that isn't going anywhere for the next 5-10 years at least. It's not battle tested at all and there are too many issues with it that aren't even high priority. So unless you plan on making some tiny game like Web Fishing, some 2D crap, or are somehow a programming veteran in the next couple years who can harness it like the Road to Volstok developers it's better to just use something games have ACTUALLY BEEN MADE WITH!! The only 3D engines worth using are Unreal 4, Unreal 4, and Unreal 4. Everything else is only free if you time is worthless, or have zero games released with them.

People will try to tell you Unreal is shit but they're clueless and just parroting shit other retards say online. UE5 does have performance issues which is why I don't recommend it. If your goal is to release a game that isn't some 2D trash UE4 is where it's at. I've used all meme engines extensively and I keep coming back to Unreal. Learn C++ and download Rider IDE. It just werks unlike every other bastard engine. Unity is too jewish to even think about.
>>
>>748918084
you would need to be a programmer to understand.
this is like questioning why a dev would make various tools via scripting.
>>
>>748918160
>it's better to just use something games have ACTUALLY BEEN MADE WITH!!
RTV uses Godot.
>>
>>748916498
Just pick up Godot.
It's scripting language is basically just python but better, and python was quite literally designed as baby's first language, and the editor has all the documentation you need baked into it so you don't have to constantly google shit.
Unless you're running with a big team of people, or you already know C++ and are willing to revert back to UE4 to dodge all the fucked rendering memetech, it's your best option.
Don't even bother with unity, it's basically what java games were to unity when it was new, deprecated and run by a company that's waiting for the right chance to fuck it's userbase without too much backlash.
>>
>>748918361
He mentionned it later in the post but still kind of a dumb reductionnist argument. If you take godot and apply 20yrs of traditional game dev design and tech then it's good enough.
>>
>>748917709
>llm: read text file. do this game.
>file.txt: use godot 3!! not 4 YOU RETARD
>>
>>748916498
There's no point in getting into gamedev. Awful pay, awful crunch, and historically required a high degree of low level optimization black magic knowledge that would get you more money programming fpgas on wall street (now they don't care about performance). The only way most people can make a living as an indie dev is by living in a third world country.

meme engine. don't waste your time into this shit, the only reason people praise godot is because "muh unity bad", the only reason to choose godot over another engine is for merely hobby/research and not a serious reason

also vibe coding is a meme and i don't know why are you even considering it, and you asking if is better learn to code oor vibe coding makes me think you are a turbo retard

>>748916498
The only useful things from programming are:
The basics, Project making and Low level CS stuff.
Programming itself and learning the in and outs of a language is ever more useless due to LLMs.
So either do it as a hobby, vibe code projects or learn CS (actual CS like math and binary operations, not C++ bullshit)
>>
>>748919945
This too. It's kinda mismanaged.
>>
Whatever you cooked up personally specifically for your indie game > Godot > Unity > Unreal
>>
>>748916498
Being in charge is better than automation.
Watching the result of your learning process is always satisfying.
>>
>>748916498
All you need is the Cosmos language. Then you understand programming. https://cosmos-language-lab-0819.asd-user56.chatgpt.site/ https://github.com/cosmos-lang/cosmos-lang.github.io/wiki
>>
>>748918001
This is what our codebase at work looks like lmao. Take with that as you will.
>>
>>748916498
If you have to ask people if you should do X. You lack the autodidact mindset to become good at X to begin with.

I strongly believe that anyone who has to ask a question like this instead of just doing it and figuring it out will never do anything of worth to begin with. You should probably just work in a factory and watch netflix.
