Probably has something to do with the new Viewpoint mod that was released for it a few days ago. It completely overhauls the game. Makes it feel like a completely new experience. Basically someone added first and third person mode to an isometric type game. And it actually looks really good. From what I have been seeing from videos online people are now adding high def texture packs and using DLSS 5 and stuff and making it look very graphically impressive.

Kiketubers repeat and howl loud enough "I'M HAVING A HECKING BLAST" and Night Media colludes with kiketube to push those videos before normgroids who then lose $20 to try it and then stop because it's unplayable trash. The numbers are a snapshot of 49,900 players doing that.
It'll die down in a few months and then everything will fall back to average
