Without an audience to sustain them, developers will just have to make games that actually bring in cash like call of duty or candy crush.

Just a cold hard truth of business. I guarantee you that more anons here bought gears of war e day and whatever else that just released rather than these niche titles. They will probably bitch about how no new games are coming out before spending their cash on old proven IPs. Investors know this which is why they are very cagey about new IPs. The real world doesn't operate on memes like go woke, go broke (Baldur's Gate 3). It relies on data analysis and algorithms.
