AC4>AC7>AC0>AC6>AC5>AC8

Is How I'd rank them. I dont remember enough about the handheld games or the Air Combat ones and I haven't played 3 yet.
>>
>AC8 Last
How bad is it? Not heard anything about it outside of people pissed off they paywalled AC0 behind it.
>>
>>748928909
0 > 4 = 3 > 8 > 6 > X > 7 > 5
>>
>>748928909
>8 last
Stop being dramatic.
>>
>>748929132
I really didn't like it that much. 30 missions is too many. Too many stinkers that will make replaying a drag. Really forgettable music and enemy squadron too. 6 did the big battles thing better.
>>
>>748929084
op is shitposting
8 has shortcomings but it's solid. imo doesn't quite hit the same peaks as some other titles but i would say it's very consistently good overall
>>
does each mission in ac8 have an enemy ace?
>>

>>748928909
it loses 2 points for slow load times and extreme start up times
it loses 1 point for basic / terrible / no HOTAS support
it loses 1 point for punishing the player with yapping and cutscenes that lack all sex appeal or interesting characters
it gets 1 point for visuals
it gets 1 point for sound design
-4 + 2 on a scale of 5 is a 3 out of 5 game
>>
Assault Horizon was peak. Even 8 admits 7 was a mistake.

8 has the same lows as 5 but doesnt reach the same peaks. A few cool moments like dealer telling you to solo the shadow squadron or the 1000 plane invasion force were neat but 8 in general just didnt hit for me, which sucks because im honourbound to replay the campaign over and over for cheevos
>>
>>748933541
Im glad someone else feels the exact same as me. Godspeed anon. I'm not sure I'll get all cheevos but I'm gonna atleast replay on ace.
>>
Anyone beat the game yet? How many missions are there?
>>

30

Thankfully they dont talk much in this game, AC7 was like a 4chan chat room, like 9 mf yapping at the same time

S+ TIER : 4
S TIER: 5, 0
A TIER: 7, 8
B TIER: 3, assault horizon 3ds
C Tier: 6
D tier: ASS Horizon pc

AC 8 core gameplay is fun. The rest of the package is all good but not as iconic as the previous titles.

How the story is presented, AC4 is still unmatched, through the eyes of an orphan who buddys up your rival squadron is so much more kino and better than through schizophrenic delusion of your pilot.
How your ACE is a symbol lorewise, Demon of razgriz has so much more as the zoomers say more aura than the hand of hope.
Music? I still listen to 0, 4 and 7 regularly.
How the caracthers and villains are fleshed out? Yo buddy, do I need to say more?
Superweapons even felt less threatening.
Anyway, this is still my goty.

Haven't touched the online, not really interested but I will.
>>
Probably the most woke Ace Combat so far. 3/10
>>
>>748928909
Too early to say, but I am three missions in and I fucking love it.

>>
>>748929084
It's Assault Horizon 2
>>
>>748936226
6 is at the very least on par with 7. DLC is better though
>>
Obviously everybody talks about the Dynamic music but the Dynamic dialogue of AC8 is pretty thorough, I played the desert mission 7 a few times and there really are quite a bit of unique dialogue depending on which order of objectives you pick
>>
>>748936965
Youve got the magic ray!

>>

ac8 is top 3, possibly best.
>>
>>748928909
I really don't get why people are putting 4 so high, it's mid as fuck
>>
>>748936860
assault horizon doesn't even take place in the same world, has auto dogfighting, was written by a westerner, and has a lame "superweapon"
>>
>>748935238
it's cause they could move the yapping to the actual cutscenes this time
>>
>>748938785
this. The jet flaps were sluggish, the music wasn't that good, the storytelling was some kid glazing the enemy squad through art piece visuals. Also the "hero" jet was a F4 phantom
>>
>>748928909
0>5>4>8>6>7>AH
>>
>>748929084
It's good. A little bloated because of the 30 missions thing but it's fun enough.
It doesn't really have "this shit is amazing" peaks like some other AC games but it's consistently good. A solid entry.
>>
Does using the wingman commands actually do anything substantial enough to notice that your wingmen actually did something?

if you've played 3 then you're in the top 1% of AC fans, if you've played 1 or 2 then you're the 0.1%. Nobody does that bro it ain't a larp, the sheer fact he has 6 in there puts him way up there somewhere already.
>>
Felt like a downgrade compared to 7, 7 feels more rounded and complete.
>>
>>748939345
Full disclosure I'm one of those people who have always disliked the 'holy trinity' thing since I don't think 5 is on the same level as 4 or 0. Though I guess it is ironic since if there's any game that 8 is similar to it's 5.
>>

It feels like it's taken every good thing from every past game and put it all in one title. I legitimately think it's PA at their absolute peak

>>
>>748939723
I mean it's not "Bad", it's just kinda stale. It can be forgiven as a first attempt and a home version of an arcade game, but it's outclassed by 2.

4 is a remake of 2 in the same way Metal Gear Solid is a remake of Metal Gear.

>>
>>748939701
I have a 3090ti with an I9 1300K and 32gb of ram and this game has a gigantic fucking ram leak. It starts chugging after the 2nd consecutive mission, and around halfway into a third, it's unplayable. Input lag becomes so bad you can't manuver, you doublefire missles, you can't even pause the game.

REALLY hoping they fix it.
>>

I've always hated the "holy trinity" shit because 5 is a plain bad game.

AC7 > AC8 > AC5 > AC6 > AC4 > AC0 > ACAHL > ACAH

Haven't played 3 but I would probably put it between 6 and 4.

The reason for my ranking is the games as a whole. So in some the music is weak, or the gameplay is boring, or the visuals are great but something else is off, etc.

It's probably unfair to compare a modern game to ones that are over 2 decades old. But for a game made by like 2 people PW is very fun

Objectively both 7 and 8 are better than ps2 titles since they have better plane feel and gameplay.

Get some time in free flight, turn on expert controls (Ignore the name, they're just the better way to play the game)
Just fly around, get used to how things move. Ace Combat always sends you up against some basic bombers that fly in straight lines at you as the first mission for a reason.
They're fun games, don't let the controls stop you

positives:
-it plays like ace combat should. no bullshit like dogfight mode etc
-missions have been interesting so far and I'm just 6 missions into the game
-performance isn't as bad as I thought, haven't even crashed once and I played 6 missions straight
meh:
-pointless QTE cutscenes that you can skip in future playthroughs thankfully. but even in first playthrough it's like really I have to press x to shake hands?
-AWACS guy sounds mad gay at times
negatives:
-online seems like total GaaS hellscape. the gameplay is enjoyable but everything else requires constant dodging of multicurrency urges and forced engagement.

I would put it 4th or even 3rd best so far at least during the honeymoon period. doing the campaign on ace will definitely either put it lower or higher later on.

I alt f4'd during character creation cause I got busy and now whenever I load into Ace Combat Online I get a loading screen then the menu and music loads in (I can hear the menu movement sounds) but the screen is stuck with the loading screen like pic related. I already tried verifying game files. Please don't tell me I have to reinstall this bitch.

Shut the fuck up. Glazing a game for what it introduced to the formula id irelevent. Putting 4 on a pedestal doesn't make you a true fan to a series, it's not a requirement. 4 is good, but time moves on and it's showing it's age, so it's fine for people to not rate it as high.

I've never played any of these games, but I'm kinda curious to try one out, most likely Ace Combat 7, if it goes on a good sale in the future. However, I've watched some gameplay and I can't help to feel like the game looks extremely repetitive, which I feel could get really boring real fast, unless you are a huge fan airplanes and this genre.

Anyone here who doesn't play a lot of flying games and thoroughly enjoyed it, while not getting bored shooting down enemy planes every single mission?

Just emulate one of the PS2 games, doesn't really matter which one, and give it an hour. Don't skip any cutscenes or anything, try to get immersed. If it doesn't do anything for you you probably won't like any of the others.
AC is genuinely much more about vibes than anything, the gameplay's pretty straightforward if you're only looking at the fundamentals of it, it's just that the games are incredible at creating context around how fucking cool airplanes are. You'll never get it from watching a video of someone else playing, you just have to experience it.

They keep it fresh with different types of missions, settings, and introducing giant fuck you objects you need to destroy ranging from city-sized howitzers to space station cannons and droneships. They do this while also having kinocringe dialogue about dancing with the angels and fighting for a world without borders that the actors all sell with full seriousness. Together with the series' amazing sound direction and it's hard not to want to play more.

Yeah, the game definitely looks amazing. The devs really seem to have gone all the way to capture as close to a real fighter jet simulator. The detail is really amazing, and one of the main reasons I want to give it a try.

>>748944232
The story does seem be another big focus when it comes to these games. I'm not much of a story gamer to be honest. But if the writing is good and it draws me in. Then that's another plus though.

>>748944315
I've watched some gameplay, but trying not to watch too much, as I don't want to spoil much of the game. But I'm glad to hear that there seems to be more variations in the game, and not just shooting down planes and battleships.

I'll probably pick up AC7 on a sale down the road. If it's a good sale, it won't feel to bad if it turns out to not be my cup of tea.

Thanks for the input everyone!

Project Wingman doesn't have it but in Ace Combat 7 and 8 you can press both yaw buttons (either R1L1 or R2L2 depending on how you map it) to automatically level your plane out (the right way up). Also holding triangle (or y if you're using an xbox controller) when you have an enemy locked onto will help you more efficiently turn around it.

Thinking Ace Combat is repetitive because you're just shooting planes is like saying all platformers are repetitive because you're just jumping, all FPS are repetitive because you're just shooting guns, all racing games are repetitive because you're just driving, etc. The reality is, games are as repetitive or exciting as you play them. Sure you could fly in circles all day waiting for enemies to pass through your reticle and fire a missile, or you can juke someone on your tail with a post-stall maneuver then chase them down with guns. If lobbing missiles gets boring you can aim unguided bombs onto aircraft. Take a calculated risk by jousting with an incoming enemy rather than getting behind them. Even basic flight maneuvers like Immelmann turns, yo-yos, barrel rolls (not the Starfox kind), and scissors make dogfighting very engaging and interesting, especially while keeping track of the dozen missiles coming for your ass at any given time.

Score attack missions can be good but not when its every other mission. 4 also doesn't bring enough targets and the reinforcement waves too slow and tiny.
The last few minutes of every SA mission in 4 always ended up with me flying in circles waiting for targets to spawn.

It's still a great game but I do agree people overrate the fuck out of it.

Since all that really matters is the combat and missions since you'll be skipping cutscenes after the first time, it's pretty damn good.

Nta, but ac6 has wayyy too many operation missions where you have to constantly zoom between point a and point b as the two objectives take turn getting damage, litterally having to babysit, not very fun imo when that makes up 70% of the game. Final mission was pretty good. Story was ass.

>>748948563
I'm a noob to AC, I've only played 7 and 8, the only thing I don't really like about the comms chatter I've heard is how often certain things are repeated.

>New bogeys on the map. Are those the Shadows?
>cutscene confirms they are the Shadows
>I recognize them, that's the Shadows
>Dealer do we have permission?
>Permission granted for Joker flight to engage the Shadows
>Do you recognize that black paint? That's the Shadows

Shit like that is relayed one after the other without any pause inbetween. The fact that the comm lines have less than five seconds of downtime between eachother can feel like it becomes a sound wall, but I would mind it less if it wasn't so repetitive. It's like the dialogue is written for people with short-term memory loss, and I assume it isn't an invention of the English dub so the JP dub must be like it as well.

>>748951392

>>
It's certainly no Zero. I've played that one a billion times now. There are things I really like about 8 that I hope I see more of:

-The characters were well-written and likeable. They made me care about a nigger, a pink-hair, and made me fall in love with some hag who's clearly in her 30s. Hell, I was even happy to hear from that slant that leads Jackpot in subsequent missions after saving her in Theve. I did wish someone would've kicked that faggot D.D. into Davy Jones' locker though. And that build up to there being a spy onboard the Endurance only to reveal it was some nameless random who has no emotional consequence for the player was pretty weak.

-I like the flight model in AC8. It feels like you're piloting a piece of machinery with some heft to it. Feels good.

-Squad commands are back, and your team actually does things. Like when Coster is telling you over radio that he's flare/chaffing a missile off your back, that is exactly what is happening.

The overall story has been done already in other Ace Combat entries. Aside from a couple standout tracks, the music was forgettable for the most part. Really hope they fix the memory leak issues, and I hope they give us PC players AC Zero as a standalone. Though it's not a dealbreaker for me.
>>
>>748951447
Try AC8 then. It's basically a complete upgrade of AC7 in every way.

I think multiple people itt already agreed with that. 5 has issues as well but makes up for it with everything else, and 0 is still the best one, but 8 came shockingly close and deserves praise for that.
>>
>>748948825
good list though ac0 would be lower for me
>>

PW is basically like a good western but not American work that honors its Japanese inspiration. It has much, much better and less stilted writing.

What's with all the foid streamers jumping into this game as their first AC? Was there a bigger marketing campaign than usual or something?
>they all use the novice controls and constantly talk over all dialogue

I'm already getting fed up with Ace Combat Online, because cheating subhuman niggers already found a way to launch Online without Anti-cheat for some reason, and are ruining the fucking TDM matches. Leave it to Aces, to keep once again 80% of the network authority on the client-side.
>>
>>748952147
At least the game is still actively supported so that might still get fixed.
All they really need to do is make some kind of check for it being active when you enter online mode.

Bandai can't do online for shit. I can't think of one of their games with online that isn't plagued with issues. I mean, I'm sure you've seen how they've handled Gundam Battle Operation 2 on PC. Literally one of the worst rated games on steam.

Like that it got its own anime girl about as soon as the game came out.
>>
>>748952147
I don't get why someone would want to cheat in a fucking AC game. It's so fucking niche and casual.

It's not fucking Tarkov or CS, actual fucking losers
>>
>>748952326
Let me make a guess: The players in question are Chinese.
>>
>>748952326
Autism and Chinese, a dangerous combination
>>
>>748929084
>How bad is it?
It's not, it's kino and a great AC game. better than 6 and 7 and 5. Almost on par with 4 and 0
>>
I haven't played any of the Ace Combat games, but I read that it's just the same story but told in different perspectives throughout each game? Like Dynasty warriors? fucking gay
>>

Well, you read wrong.

no, retard

holy fumble

I have 4080 and r9 7950x3d. What the fuck do I change in the settings and engine.ini to make the game run at 120fps in 2k? I can barely reach 70fps. Fuck UE5.
Hard mode: no frame gen.
>>
>>748928909
I'll buy it when it goes half price
Knowing how nips price their games, thats gonna be when its worth 1/10th
>>

But still a fun game imo, desptire the last mission and the lmao "tunnel run"
>>
>see a tunnel in the plant
>go inside
>radio chatter starts asking wtf is going on
Love that shit.
>>
>>748952808
It's always so kino in AC when the radio starts freaking out and then you reappear and then it's like "HOLY FUCK THE SONUVA BITCH DID IT" and then everyone is gassing you up in future missions
Like in 0 and they're on the radio like "The Demon Lord... holy fuck"

>>
>alicorn emergency mission
this shit is unbeatable with randos lmao
>>
>>748952937
Alicorn is pretty easy so long as someone (read: you) goes for the ballasts. Chandelier is the one that's impossible if the randos don't know what they're doing.

they shoved in a last mission to make Debra Wilson save the day
the mission felt so rushed and out of place that I just know they got a message from their jewish backers to add a mission for their favorite token sheboon to save the day after they already finished the game
it wasn't enough that she had to boss you around for the entire game during debriefs
>>
>>748953125
I haven't tried it myself but I bet railguns or rocketpods would absolutely delete him
>>
did people just nolife the game im still at like mission 10.
whats the fucking point of speedrunning a game like this
>>
>>748953243
early access
>>
>>748953125
I always go back with cheats in ace combat vidya after finishing campaign to see how they programmed the AI to react when you kill them within seconds etc
In one of the missions where the team has to leave you behind and you fight against shadows alone I spammed like 50 LAAMs from distance and one nigger kept infinite spamming flares kek
>>
>>748953243
Preorders got it early.
>>
>>748953125
I don't think I ever hated enemy squad as much as shadow 22, fucking infinite flares.
>>
>>748953282
Deluxe Edition* They spent way more money to play it early
>>
>>748953337
I bought it from scamco store and it ended up being 70 euros, the same as standard edition on steam.
>>
>>748953282
i preordered the standard edition one day before release
>>
>>748953337
I preorder the goyluxe edition from key site for about 55 eur and got the key right on time on 29th so that was pretty good
>>
>>748953243
Don't worry, I'm on mission 4. I'm taking my sweet time.
>>
rex being a schizo would've worked out for campaign coop where your friend would also start blasting with rex thinking it's COPE but in reality it's just him mogging everyone
maybe add a few lines from wingmen talking about how fast you're doing shit like being at two places at once etc kek
>>
>>748953689
So kinda like Christian Bale in The Prestige?
>>
>>748953814
something like that yeah, I'm sure it could be thought out well when applying the idea to the game by devs
maybe with the age of AI slop someone will make seamless coop mod
