Should I get a CRT or are filters good enough?

Get a CRT

No filter will ever be able to replicate the natural, smooth flow of pure light and its natural mix and blend. The black levels are also amazing, because dark = NO light on CRTs. Not to mention the motion clarity and lack of perceivable input lag are things you won't believe until you try.

Get a CRT while you still can. The existing supply will run out within the next 10 years or so.

Zoomers should stick to filters. CRTs are not for children.
>>
Tried looking for stuff local and nothing in my rinkadink town.

Best I could find was a 13" inch TV?

>replicate the natural, smooth flow of pure light and its natural mix and blend
>the motion clarity
This is true but filters and stuff like black frame insertion are getting really damn close
>because dark = NO light
isn't this how OLED works or is it different?

theyre fucking heavy. 13 inch is fine for a desk
>>
I prefer crt but I'm fine with filters. I just dont care, and it really doesn't matter unless you're stupid enough to fall for secret clubs

These posts make me feel less bad about using a 17" broadcast monitor in my living room
Its small but the picture is so nice

Some games look like dogshit without the low fidelity blur of a CRT and in some cases have illegible visuals.
>>

CRT filters are pretty damned good these days. Unless you have a frame of comparison to know what is different or need perfect image clarity (which you can also get with high hz OLEDS) good filters will be fine for preserving intended pixel art appearance.

Good filters can do that just fine. We're long past just scanlines and Shaderglass let you apply the good ones to anything.

I've been playing classics on the Switch Lite and I really like the CRT filter. I've seen shitty ones on the cheap emu boxes but the one on Switch looks great. It looks like I remember.

Filters are probably good enough. Wait for micro LED, it's said to solve the lag and burn in issue.
If you get a crt get a commercial one not an industrial one.
CRTs are good, but a big tv is better. Unless you're trying to recreate an era. Some people would be very into using old stuff, like watching vhs tapes. They generally did things propperly in the past. As the world gets more jewish and niggerish things are regularly run and done by people who don't know what they're doing.

crt tv big tubey box VERY BEST screen ever!! oled tv is STUPID black glass rectangle it go poof dark when turn off and missing big heavy glass in front for punch with hand!

here is secret why tubey box win:

it heavy like rock. rock strong. oled thin like cracker, if dog sneeze on oled it fall over and cry! crt tv need four daddy to carry, that mean it four time more powerful tv.

fuzzy dots make picture warmer. crt have cute tiny static bugs inside buzz zzzzzz. oled too clear! why look at clear? clear mean no picture inside! when picture blurry it mean tv working hard like running fast!

glowy green button on front. oled no have big noisy CLICK button. if no CLUNK sound when press power, how tv know it on??? it guess! crt KNOW it on because it hum loud like angry bee.

tv make hair stand up! you touch glass screen, hair on arm go zappp! oled no give hair magic static. zero magic!

AND FILTERS ARE BAD EVEN!!

filter is piece of silly paper you put on top! why put blue paper or red paper on screen? screen already screen! if you put filter on tv, now tv is wearing pants on face! tv cannot breathe! filter steal the light and hide it in pocket! if filter so good why not eat it? see! bad!

so CRT tubey tv win number one trophy always forever, oled go home and cry!

>some games
Oh no how will I ever live without overrated retro game #77 looking authentic save me ojisan!
That aside maybe it looks bad to you but I don't care about that. If its playable I'm happy. Filters are just fine for me and my crt is chunky. No i wont spend a year looking for an overpriced piece of shit.

As long as you have the room, get a CRT. Don't get jewed (unless it's an end game monitor with low hours). Take your time finding a good CRT.
>>
>>748934317
You're going to get a crt just get a regular ass PC monitor instead of pvm/bvm. And make sure to get it for free from a relative instead of buying it off douchebags online.
>>

I use both. Filters are better than nothing and in fact can look quite good. I think one of the best glow ups I personally saw was Xak: The Art of Visual Stage on MSX2. Ran it with a good CRT filter and it made the game a lot easier to look at.
I have a CRT now for my Saturn and I love it, but I also only paid 70 bucks for it too. Look locally and try to find a good deal. If you don't find anything right away, just keep checking in every week or so and I'm sure you'll eventually find what you're looking for.
Overall though anon, I don't think it's totally the end of the world to use filters instead of getting a CRT, I like the latter more in most cases for older games, but it wasn't like a gigantic upgrade, just a slight upgrade for me.
>>
Just use an emulator and increase the colour bleed, you can see tons of reddit posts of larper zoomers buying crts then asking why it doesn’t have scan lines kek

>because dark = NO light on CRTs
Only partially true and only in perfectly dark rooms. The back of the tube is reflective so it will both reflect the light in the room and the light on other spots on the screen. Not to mention having a brightness on par with extremely cheap LCDs that gets worse with age/use. All of this culminates in having a dim image on a greenish grey screen giving you horrible contrast.

I get the feeling a lot of people on /v/ just kinda disregarded them years ago and have no idea how good they are now
Seeing people criticize them around here makes me feel like I'm in 2018 or something
>>
>>748934860
My two brothers and I played splitscreen Halo 2 on a 13" CRT for thousands of hours. Wasn't ideal but it's what we had available.
>>
>>748934317
filters are fine. anybody who says otherwise is a larping fag, 99% of people who say otherwise haven't ever used a crt.
>>
What some good shaders?
>>
>>748934317
If you have to even ask that question, then you shouldn't bother with one. You wouldn't even be able to see what the difference is.
