This game's map is so much more forgettable than that of the first game, goddamn. Feels bigger yet everywhere you look there's a generic mall or generic casino. It's visually draining.

Blame Keiji Inafune for outsourcing the production to western studios.

I like it. The first one's mall blends together a bit as well, even though there's some great areas they're not all winners. I loved the Americana, the main strip and the food court especially (DR1's is pretty banal by comparison)

DR2 has aged really well in my opinion. I appreciate it more and more as time goes by and I've come to understand that it was a miracle they let a game so similar to DR1 come out in 2010 when the gaming landscape had already changed so drastically, I guess we got kind of lucky the zombie boom happened more or less around the same time and everything with the living dead would sell reasonably well.

If it released a year or two after it probably would have sold like shit, they wouldn't be able to get away with a strict timer anymore.

This game is so good. I love everything about it. From the UI to the sound design, it all just meshes so well and has it's own unique flavor.

Yeah 2 deels off if played immediately after 1. For starters Chuck's movement feels more sluggish, like he wasn't made for navigating around zombies. His unlockable skills, too, pale compared with Frank's. Story is way weaker, and the sense of eeriness present at points in 1 is wholly gone. I was never crazy about Combo Weapons either, as the series went on the whole "everything you grab can be a weapon" went out the window 'cause everyday items became pointless, comparatively weak and not fun to experiment with because of it when you could just run around with boxing glove knives or a fucking lightsaber. The map, although an improvement in verticality, relies too much on casinos to the point it's kind of boring to navigate through and Royal Flush Plaza is just too big and linear as the area closesr to the safehouse compared with Paradise Plaza which felt like the ultimate hub area for the kind of games DR are, with a myriad of always useful entrances and an ever evolving threat as the days go by. And escorting survivors, well, they overcorrected so now it feels like you're running around with a small army of personal bodyguards instead of victims scared shitless of the rotting corpses surrounding them.

Skill issue.
DR2 has so much soul.
It obviously isnt as good as 1, but thats one fun fucking game.

>OTR is built on a later version of the engine so the PC port is more stable than the base game
