Any good zelda-likes in the steam sale I should know about?
>>
>>748937679
Master Key and Pipistrello. Isle of Reveries just came out so it's not on sale, but it's good.

NTA but Prodigal is decent especially for the price, Deaths Door is similar to a zeldalike and very cheap on sale currently and it's pretty good
>>
>>748939049
This game is far from good.
>>
>>748937679
Tunic is probably the best one.
The dev is a massive woke faggot, but since you're a Steam nigger, that's right up your alley.

Play Anodyne. Impeccable atmosphere.

>Zelda-likes
It's amazing to me how few things in this 'genre' remotely live up to what they're aiming to copy. Absolutely nothing seems to be able to create the richly designed worlds with strong real time interaction and creative progression that actual Zelda games have. The only thing that comes close are actually specific ROMhacks lie Master of Time.
>>
Tunic isn't a true zelda like at all. In fact I'd say the parts that are trying to be zelda/dark souls are the worst bits about it. It's more an esoteric puzzle game.
>>
>>748937679
Binding of Isaac
>>
>>748937679
Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy is a great adventure game like the LoZ games. I don't know if its on sale, but I will shill it any chance I get.
>>
Beat Anodyne and it was extremely boring the whole way through, dropped Tunic a few hours in. Really dont understand the recommendations. Alundra has obnoxious puzzles, but moments of goodness and beautiful art. Mina was REAL good though, if you consider it a zelda-like

The GOAT
>>
>>748950330
It is though, there's a lot of variety in trinkets, a fun world, lots of bosses, the exploration's pretty dope. The only major complaint I've seen levied is the difficult scaling with how it gets easier after the first, but it's the same issue most zeldas have and they get a pass usually. There's built in difficulty mods to fix that. IMO the game comes the closest to an older zelda where you have a lot of free range to do stuff how you want, there's a large focus on combat but there's also a good amount of exploration/puzzles to break it up.
>>
>>748950729
*first couple bosses
>>
>>748941610
It's not bad either, just very basic (which I'd say is an issue with 90% of indie zelda-like games).

Many great games, but nothing really replicating Zelda. Nobody has simply taken the structure, gameplay, and tone and just plugged in OCs. Death’s Door, Crypt Custodian, Hyper Light Drifter, Tearscape, Pippistrello, Mina, and Tunic are all enjoyable to differing degrees but not quite Zelda.

Tunic is fun, but it’s really not a Zelda-like. More like a game with Zelda-like aesthetics, then you start playing it and realize that it’s more of an isometric souls game and then you eventually realize that it’s a very unusual and esoteric puzzle game on top of that.

Cool, but really doesn’t scratch the same itch as Zeldas do.

Automata is very inspired by OoT in it's design. I'd tell you specifically what kind's of things it copies, but that would spoil certain secrets you're supposed to discover yourself. Mechanically it's much more an action/JRPG than it is like Zelda despite this.

>near the start of the game you're given a fetch quest that involves getting items from people all over town, except that there's a shitty pointless day/night cycle that changes their locations and there's zero way to find out where someone currently is so it becomes the most painfully tedious bullshit imaginable
>true ending requires you to be married despite the game not hinting towards this at all, as well as some of the girls not being valid romance options until the post-game, meaning that you can't romance them if you want to get it
>the bosses are the most simplistic, boring dogshit and have 1 or 2 attacks at most besides the final boss, one of them can literally kill itself if you wait long enough
>game makes a joke about how awful fetch quests are after you complete the first one, and then throws a second fetch quest at you later in the game without a shred of irony because fuck you
>bizarre mechanics that add nothing, like the previously mentioned day/night cycle, not being able to heal outside of the town normally which isn't a problem because the game is piss easy, or food buffs that you can only have 3 of and are removed when you die because they needed some form of money sink
>the Medusa monster girl that's literally front and center on the game's library banner isn't a romance option
I'm actually in awe that this shit had an over 90% Positive rating, my standards aren't particularly high but I spent like $2 on it and I felt robbed. True. It's an optional quest that adds perma run boots (should just be able to run from the beginning anyway.) It does remind me of the bullshit trading sequences in like over half the Zelda games though.
>>true ending requires you to be married despite the game not hinting towards this at all, as well as some of the girls not being valid romance options until the post-game, meaning that you can't romance them if you want to get it
That's what back up saves and NG+ are for.
>>the bosses are the most simplistic, boring dogshit and have 1 or 2 attacks at most besides the final boss, one of them can literally kill itself if you wait long enough
This is true. There is a shit ton of post game content though, that's all higher quality.

It's like saying Dark Souls is a Metroidvania.
>>
>>748972716
>It does remind me of the bullshit trading sequences in like over half the Zelda games though.
That's clearly the intent, but they do it in a total dogshit way compared to Zelda. Like, in Zelda it happens halfway through the game so you'll already have mobility tools, you get to revisit old areas you've been to before, and most importantly NPCs will generally be in the same place as always. Here it's "Ok run around this town that you've just gotten to, you're slow as shit, and while you're running around the time will change so the NPC that you just saw might be in a totally different area now ok have fun". I feel like this is a consistent issue with the game, they're trying to copy Zelda in some way but they do it in the shittiest way possible.
>That's what back up saves and NG+ are for.
Most people wouldn't even consider making backup saves in a Zeldalike with 3 save slots, and the game doesn't even hint at this shit man, if I didn't google it I wouldn't have even known that there were alternate endings. And making it so some romances aren't compatible with it at all is just dogshit, what's the point of letting people have waifus then? And I can't imagine doing NG+ when the only thing you can do differently on your playthroughs is romancing different girls.
>There is a shit ton of post game content though, that's all higher quality.
You could be right, I stopped not too far into the post game because I felt like the game was just going to continue being more of the same. I shouldn't have to spend over 7 hours going through the game just to get to the part that's supposedly fun.
>>748972996
kek I fucking wish it was like The End. The boss in question is one that just bounces around the arena, and you have to knock it into some spikes. But it can also just crash into the spikes on its own depending on RNG, so if you leave it alone long enough it'll kill itself doing that.

>>748973975
NTA but it's not.
Dark Souls progression is completely different. You never unlock abilities that are required for exploration. Every move you have is made for combat. There are locks and keys but they are nothing beyond that. Dark Souls is descended from a long line of RPGs, and plenty of RPGs have locks and keys.
>>
>>748974043
Gameplay-wise Anodyne is kinda weak. I think being lost and meandering through the overworld is just sort of the point.
It's a fun exploratory game but I'd argue it's not really a Zelda-like in a conventional sense.
>>
>>748973937

The secret sauce of Metroid and Zelda(and Metroidvanias in general since classic Zelda is also a Metroidvania) is that some keys are abilities/items that you can use besides the obvious use of opening a door.

There's no such thing in Dark Souls. There's no Bomb, there's no Shinespark you learn, there's no double jump.
>>
From the screenshots and footage I thought it was going to be like Nuclear Throne or Gungeon, but Trigger Witch is basically just a top down Zelda like Link to the Past except you use guns instead of a sword.
