Halo and GoW were the only games where I actually didn't mind having women serving in combat roles since it made sense for both of their settings. For Halo, over half of the entire human population died off in the war and for GoW, even by the start of the first game; you're already dealing with a military force that is on the brink of total destruction. Having women serving as infantry is a positive for the setting because it didn't showcase women being badasses, it showed how desperate both sides became where they both reached the point where as long as you could hold a rifle and pull the trigger, you got conscripted. Games that depict wars that are existential to the point where the entire species could get wiped out, they should have women fighting. Which is why I can't stand newer Halo/GoW games where they completely ditch that concept and just have women everywhere out of some gay ass boss bitch shit. tl;dr women in combat should always be used as a narrative device to showcase the desperation and severity of the conflict.

After playing the campaign:I do agree that Carter discovering frags into e-holes is kinda lame. But overall her character wasn't insufferable to deal with, rather it was just she was so fucking boring. Like Lucas has his character development and even if you don't really care for him that much he's somewhat interesting. Carter has inklings of some depth like her condition, her factory work, and her ex squad but NONE of those are really expanded upon. Her personality is a bland "strong tough woman" who bitches about the COG but never goes too deep into it, and that's basically everything about her. She's like Rochelle from L4D2 where she's not bad, but just boring and I didn't really feel any connection to the character. And when she tries to get Marcus to talk to Dom more I feel like it'd be more impactful if she was a previous squad leader who was just attached to Bravo on a whim, and she was trying to help Marcus out in leading people. But because I don't know shit about her other than she was a previous COG soldier it felt like more she was trying to talk about stuff she doesn't understand.For non-spoilers, the only thing I'll say is I wish the campaign just had more Marcus and Dom by themselves moments. But overall the campaign was alright.Also: Carmine's fate should have been determined on how many side missions you completed, with doing barely any ending in him killed and doing a lot letting him live.
