Finished the quest. Should've just done everything last night there wasn't that much left. Shame about Grist and the rest of the research team though. Anyways through the park checkpoint is where the mold area is right?

undertale section seems like nice change of pace in the late game

for the combat I guess I wish the game progressed the enemy variety so that some of the stuff you see in early game is dropped entirely and youd need completely new approach or something
>>
Just beat it solid 8/10 only problems i had was

>the pacing was up and down
>Enemies sucked ass
>Story takes a nose dive at the earthbound bit and then just starts reconning shit left and right
>How can Alan Wake and this be in the same universe now?
>>
the enemy variety was absolutely pitiful, the bosses were absolute pushovers only redeemed by their visuals, combat is so fucking boring if they were trying to emulate DMC and it’s kind they should have added more depth than this it’s practically Diablo in its complexity, the RPG section near the end kills the momentum and brings the overall score of the game down, map traversal gets tiring on mopping up leftover sidequests after the main story is wrapped up, I want to suck and fuck Pope

all in all? a solid 6/10, deleted to make space for Ace Combat 8 and Hellraiser
>>
The experience is elevated by small ways
You never need to think about saving, so thats great.
The experience is technically flawless, no stutter, no fps drops, no need to think about restarting the game to fix memory leak for me at least.
You spend very little time looking at loading screens thanks to the streaming system.
The movement system and how its matched with the world design is real smooth. They do a great job doing a different movement set indoors.

Im very early in the game but i do have some notes, so Remedy better be reading this post
>The hiss designs are boring
Every trash encounter is the most boring thing i have ever played until the next thrash encounter, bosses are cool, vibes are cool, lore items are cool, the hiss creatures are lame as fuck
>Movement sucks
I understand is not the same type of game as the super hero power fantasy (prototype comes to mind) and that navigating the city is gameplay on its own but holy fuck does "sprint jump dash jump dash elevate" suck balls. Its getting better as i get btter at movement but having to slowly go from one 2 story building to the 3 story building to the 4 story building to the ..... Fuck off, let me jump higher
>The upgrade system should be way more concise or i shouldn't be worried about respec items to try out new weapons and skills
>Agent DeVera on your ear sucks, but devs can't help themselves on giving every Link a Navi in 2026

HOWEVER
I just spent like 10 minutes trying to reach a place that was unreachable cause i missunderstood a map icon and that felt fine, i never got a
>Focus M!
message or anything i was just happily hitting my head to a wall and nobody was bothering me.

Question
Do enemies respawn? or if i clear a "zone" of a map that stays enemy free forever?
Also what is the point of leveling zones?
>>
>>748947928
its a good way to introduce the idea to players head that its possible to move around pretty fast

The way the Bureau treats Arish after his Patterning is really telling.
The man sacrificed himself for 7 years fighting otherworldly dangers, only to be consumed and turned into an anti-FBC weapon by the same entity that he fought against, and the bureau chooses to cover this up? This sets an awful precedent. "Do your job and if it leads to the death of you and YOUR colleagues, BY YOUR OWN HAND, we'll pretend you died a hero". I understand the FBC, as an organization, doesn't pretend to care about its people but come the fuck on. I'd expect them to be at least a little bit more pragmatic on the issue.
>>
>>748949624

I think they really set the mood well but AW1 did it better, where they had chapter songs play during the "credits" for a chapter/episode.

Enemies respawn each time you kill a Resonant boss, which 'resets' the zones. The point of levelling zones is listed in a sub-menu of the zone map for each area. Generally levelling zones increases the amount of those world events, more droprates, an unlock that shows specific chests, upgrades the vendors and unlocks other stuff like costumes etc. The idea is that you clear out all of the zones of all the content, then kill a Resonant, then clear the zones again to maximise zone levels. Personally I don't see the point since I've gotten most zones past 5 and I'm already overlevelled for all the enemies and flogging pretty much everything.
>>
>>748947964
>Do enemies respawn? or if i clear a "zone" of a map that stays enemy free forever
They do and stronger after you clear a Resonant boss
>Also what is the point of leveling zones?
I have no idea I only know it upgrades the vendor stock
>>
I'm disappointed we didn't get to fight the resonant or whatever it is that killed the research team. If I do end up fighting it later don't tell me.. I wonder if the dylan that went into the underpass when you start is still the same dylan when you come out

After beating the game I'm actually really curious about the Pattern/Hedron. It seems genuinely scared and trying to communicate something to Dylan at the end. People are saying it's something even greater than the Hiss that it's trying to fight? The Dark Place? I'm also extremely interested about what the Board's deal is in this game.

Also what the fuck was Jesse doing the whole game? Off on a side quest to stop the Pattern, then loses in the final Fault, then just comes through a door after the final boss to sacrifice herself? Am I missing something? I kinda wish they had shown her doing *something* in the final boss. Although it was a pretty lame fight all up so I don't know if it really would of mattered

6/10 game, needs more enemy variety and combat feels good, but lacks depth, they could’ve easily added combos, you don’t even have a charged attack or delay attack for your main weapon, just basic stuff like that is missing, bosses are braindead, the deserter barely attacked me and glitched all over the place, too many arena combat encounters without much enemy variety, mold enemies are basically reskinned, ost is great, most of the characters are forgettable and boring, low budget for cutscenes and dialogue, main character is a nothing burger, I understand he’s supposed to be autistic, but he could’ve had more character development, he’s a super hero but acts like a incel, you can tell Sam Lake wasnt really involved in it

Hedron was trying to breach through to earth through the faults. Jesse struggles to do it on her own and the faults are empty and keep pulling from her memory, so she's taking a while to really do anything until Dylan shows up and helps her. When Jesse fails, the Hedron basically fully breaks through and quasi-absorbs her. It doesn't fully pattern her or anything because she's probably too powerful, but that's what the last probes detect and help with, it sees she's in there and altering how she's stuck in the Hedron so that she can "communicate" with Dylan, which helps him resist and get sent into the game flashbacks. Killing the Hedron freed Jesse enough to use the Gap slide Dylan created in order to escape.

Taskboard that gives small quests in each area. Gives a bit of source but otherwise isn't necessary unless you care about achievements.

Since the taskboard stuff is story lite repeatable stuff I think they're doing a bit where the guy looks like the fallout 4 redguard npc that tells you another settlement needs ur help
>>
"build power" is not just a number right? i mean its not just a sum of the amount of upgrades you have but has intrinsic dmg or whatever tied to it right?
Like it multiplies your dmg further the higher "power build" you have and enemies take less dmg the higher level they are blablabla

>>748954414
"Build Power" is an arbitrary number, "Aberrant Strength" is tied to the amount of weapon upgrades you've got and give you a %dmg increase
>>
>>748954414
Yeah, this is underexplained except in a single box that you've learned to ignore by the time it shows up. Getting any upgrade makes you stronger, no matter if it's slotted in or not, and tiers don't share resources with other tiers (besides source), so there's no reason not to do it.

It took me embarrassingly long (until halfway through the Underpass) to realize that I already have the abilities the unlock the ability gates. Now I went back and tried opening them and some of them I can't even find because the map markers are so shit. I think one of them is somewhere deep in the patterned train area but it shows up on the Park map. A couple of other underground ones gave me quite the runaround as well.

I don't know how much of the game is left but I enjoyed it overall. The combat is the biggest drag, it's okay at the baseline but there's too much of it, not enough enemy variety or approaches to fight them, and it gets real easy fast.

It's at its best when you don't see the formula it uses just yet and it genuinely surprises you with some puzzles or secrets. Then you see the pattern (heh) and it kind of deflates a bit. I think the game should've had more unique weird shit, and it never should've reused puzzles (like the ones in the research stations). It feels lazy that they couldn't bother thinking of just a few more. Atmosphere-wise it's still cool though.

As I understand it Jesse and the Hedron are both trying to stop an even greater threat but through different means. Also the Hedron is not really concerned with the Hiss, an neither is Jesse because they know Dylan's hate for them will clean up that problem.
I hate the MCU comparison but these games already feel like it thanks to the Remedy multiverse stuff they're doing. But Hedron is basically Ultron, an apparent main villain but its whole argument is that it's preparing our reality for an unseen threat, and Jesse knows about it too.
It's almost as if it wants to transform lower Manhattan into the new and improved oldest house to contain this thing.
But we don't know what it will be yet, maybe something related to Alan Wake or Quantum Break is coming. Maybe it's the "End of Time" or "The Dark Place" affecting the multiverse? Who knows
>>

>>
>>748955503
You could be right, but it's also that the hedron is like a nuke, Polaris that connected with Jesse in its slide was in a world that looked like very post-apocalyptic, so the Hedron is more like "yeah I can eliminate your problem, but at what cost?"

They have out some really neat stuff. The FBC pin and keychain (Parautilitarian symbol?) are especially nice.

Speaking of yellow paint this type of vagueness is really frustrating
Its a low reward task board mission that takes a lot more effort because the map doesnt tell you where you need to go.

Evac site reads nowhere on the map
You cant see a diegetic map pointers anywhere like -> heres evac site
So the only thing on the map that is close is the evacuation zone checkpoint and going there will make npcs reset at x.

You just need to know what they're talking about, and you do that by googling it.

Resonant feels like a very low budget game
>barely any marketing material
>reuse of assets
>samey environments
>small, literally who-tier cast
>limited, boring sidequests
Control and felt like a deeper game despite them being way smaller in scale. I vividly remember constantly going "oh shit, that's neat" during Control, seeing the environments and sidequests that took place inside the oldest house. Resonant doesn't really have that.
My guess is that remedy either had to make do with a smaller budget OR they had to keep tighter deadlines since AW2 released only about 3 years ago.

Don't really agree, Control was made on a budget too and it showed. Outside of the Quarry Threshold with the fancy sky every major area was built from fairly samey looking assets. Which made sense considering the setting, of course, but it was clearly them working with their limitations instead of an artistic expression from the environmental team.
The Control series is definitely a step below AAA and thank God for that.

I would have loved to see more areas like the underpass or the astral plane. The first game had way more variety, different departments had different architecture and we had things outside the norm like the quarry and the foundation caves.

Since last year, Quantum Break and Alan Wake 2 co-director (Kyle Rowley) has been working on an unannounced game according to his LinkedIn.

It's not MP1+2 because that was announced in 2022. Kyle always co-directs with Sam Lake so it's almost assuredly Alan Wake 3.
>>
Alan Wake > Control = Control Resonant > Max Payne 2 > Max Payne > American Nightmare > Quantum Break > Death Rally > Alan Wake 2

Didn't play CrossfireX or Firebreak. Alan Wake Remastered kind of sucks but not enough to warrant its own placement, it's still Alan Wake.

>>
>>748963376
>The development for the Max Payne remakes is also funded entirely by Rockstar.

>>748963331
I didn't mean that really, I was more talking about side content, for me exploring and dealing with weird shit was always more entertaining than the main plot.

>walk into some laundromat or store and find a puzzle
>get taxi kidnapped for the first time
>find one of the research base puzzles for the first time
>find the camera for the first time

It feels interesting the first time but then it gets reused 10 trillion times exactly as it is. The research bases are the worst example of this, they literally just have two repeating puzzles that are configured slightly differently. The game needed less repetition and more unique stuff like this, but different every time. My point is that weird shit stops being weird shit if it becomes rote and predictable.

Not Remedy

>>748963765
I love it. Played it many times over and will defintiely play many more. Wish it had more enemy variety and had high hopes for the sequel in regards to that. Maybe third time is the charm.
>>
>>748963765
It wasn't a good game but a decent enough experience. The mood and setting elevates to a somewhat higher-tier even if the gameplay is lacking.
>>
>>748963864
The controls in Quantum Break are excellent, the things holding it back are mostly level design, too much walk and talk for a game that already had a TV show to provide passive storytelling and needed none of that in-game, except of course for in engine cutscenes, those were good. And also lack of enemy variety, the very fun to use powers don't really have good enough enemies pushing you to use them in different ways.
This is a constant issue with Remedy, but as someone who has been a fan since Max Payne I've been thoroughly satisfied with Control and Control Resonant in regards to that, they've improved a ton. They may still not have that much enemy variety compared to the best in the industry, but at least they're above average now, which is not something you could say for most of the company's existence.

NTA. That webm looks like DMC. If you got a problem with DMC-like combat, that's fine, but this is a DMC-like game and that's what people ask for in those games. So fuck off with your picking on Resonant in particular and go back to your gacha slop

No it doesn't look like dmc because dmc has strict button press timing and this absolutely does not as a mainstream slop game

So basically the enemy can't do anything and you're just lazily pressing buttons at any rhythm and everything automatically chains

Gacha games have far more complex combat than this. The enemy doesn't even do ANYTHING after being parried.

Of course it's also parry slop.

Did you buy wolverine too? Console people just buy literally everything that comes out with zero thought

If you've been paying attention to the game's you know where everything kinda is. The red building is the evac site for example. My issue is that if the rangers start fighting hiss they'll just go off on their own and stop following you essentially bricking the mission

wait you can see the button press timing in the webm?

>So basically the enemy can't do anything and you're just lazily pressing buttons at any rhythm and everything automatically chains
you fight like 20 enemies at once and the other 19 are trying to hit you, especially with aggression turned to high.

Thats how people do those player-ability combo showcase videos, fool. You dont want to have to constantly interrupt your showcase by having to dodge the other enemies every couple seconds.

>has as strict button timing as say dmc1
what are you even talking about, BTW? Having a delay combo after particular attacks in your one-button combo is "precise buttons"? Precise buttons means you have to be frame perfect and DMC was never remotely like that. You can dodge almost any time ffs; there's minimal commitment.
Not that resonant couldn't benefit from a lot more moves like that in its light attack combo. It's one of the biggest faults of the combat

He used the "push" ability right as the enemy was about to hit him. Not a combo and nobody expects you to use it like that (most don't even know you can); it just looks cool. It's meant for pushing multiple enemies at once into walls and off ledges
>>
>>748973421
>Thats how people do those player-ability combo showcase videos, fool. You dont want to have to constantly interrupt your showcase by having to dodge the other enemies every couple seconds.

Oh, so you can't actually do big combos in the gameplay
What is the point of doing them then? LMAO

>>748973032
In terms of strict input I'd say getting dodge offset right in Control Resonant is more strict than any singular input in DMC games, simply because you need to avoid the dodge attack but you can't wait too long or you miss the window and it'll reset your string. Definitely more strict than any pause string in DMC.
Which is not to say that the combat as a whole is more complex or anything of the sort, it's because DMC gets so much more complex that individual inputs can't be. I guess MAX Act is stricter but you hardly see or use anything that requires it or it'll fall apart, it's usually more of a nice to have than anything. If you get EX instead of MAX you'll do your combo the same way.

Pls ignore the bot.

to show off the player combat abilities and how good you are at executing them? Have you really never seen a clip like this?
Also you can execute them circumstantially without dodging depending on the threats around you (obviously). It's just unlikely you can do a 25 second combo without one of them attacking you (obviously). It would be a very bad thing if they just waited for you to finish.

>We are talking about the button press window is obviously 3 to 4 times as long as dmc
humoring your outrageous claim:
yeah delaying your 1-button combo for a whole second takes so much fucking skill compared to delaying it for 1.5 seconds. As if anyone would ever even delay it that long except for perfect timing of the last hit or something. retard

Enemy variety was greatly improved from the first game but it still wasn’t varied enough for an open world game. It needed one more enemy faction aside from hiss, mold and hedron.
>>
I wonder if itd be better to mod some of the combat out where the intention is just grinding resources and map levels.

You know, the markers for kill stuff around x, tasks about going to a place to kill couple heavies. Maybe even stop the respawning after killing a boss.
Remove shields from enemies just so those encounters take fewer repetitive hits to complete.

Then more of the experience is doing pretty fun exploration, narrative, seeing cool environments.
>>
I think this game is a masterpiece and will become a cult classic in a few years. The only complaint I have is the lack of enemy diversity, which for such ultra polished game is a bit mindblowing how they didn’t notice this. Even a few enemy reskins would make a difference.

From everything I've gathered, The Board in its current form really seem like usurpers of some kind trying to cling onto the power that they have. If you take into account everything, The Former, Jesse binding The Board to Dylan and constantly being in need of someone to clean up the Astral Plane, doesn't really seem like it's a lot of power.
There's definitely something going on, but I highly doubt that they are outright villainous, and after all the interactions The Board had with Dylan, it'd really fucking suck if they turned out to be the big bad, because The Board this time around was fucking hilarious.
>>
>>748977352
The combat encounters dont evolve much over the game.
You see a lot of the same mold enemy group with a heavy and flying thing
The same hiss enemy group with big head heavies, flying enemy, and fast ground enemy.
And hedron enemies later on that are visually different but act similarly to how you deal with flying enemies from mold or hiss group.
>>
>>748977352
It is, It introduces just an enemy type down the line that basically is resistant to raw damage but not to status effect. But aside of that the enemy variance ends after you've visited the first area and the park. At least the bosses are really good.

I don’t know why people here are praising the musical numbers so much, so far these are absolutely the worst ones I played through. But in fairness I only played Control, Alan Wake 1, and American Nightmare. Still, these musical sequences had styles and rythm. I think the problem is easy to trace. Musical sequences only work if
>You completely take control (heh) away from the player and you're basically playing a clip in the middle of the game
See : Champion of Light. Definitely pretty memorable, though in big part because it was ridiculous. On a more related example, Dynamite sung by Darling. You're betting the players will enjoy the break and that you've correctly identified the emotion they would resonate (heheh) with.
>You put the character in a action-heavy sequence that looks impressive but is simultaneously very hard for them to lose in
This is a power fantasy within a power fantasy. You really only want to give the appearance of a dire threat, because failing too much causes frustration and nothing makes a failure more frustrating than it already is than a cheerful "pump it up!" song. For example, Children of the Elder Gods in AW happens when you're under attacks by hordes of Taken, but you have Barry, lots of ammos, and I think the stage is even rigged to help. In Control you get the Ashtray Maze which makes it clear fighting the enemies is not encouraged as the way opens itself regardless and the House will even physically protect you by locking some Hiss behind walls. In all case you want to keep the rythm going. The second killer (the first being frustration) of these musical numbers is your character running into a wall, physically. The absence of physical movement. Constant motion is required.

>>748981919
So far I remember three musical numbers in Resonant and they all failed to be as memorable.
>The one when you get the Gravity power and climbs out of the fault. You had the powers for two minutes and you're likely to misjudge the timing or your orientation, hitting walls and even maybe turning around. All of these things kill the flow. You also get attacked by enemies, making you hesitate between killing them or running away. Because you probably do the fault pretty early on you can’t exactly dispatch the mobs with a flick of your basic combo and so the rythm suffers.
>The sinkhole escape. Neither a clip nor a power fantasy. You simply follow the light flickering, constantly stopping to adjust and readjusts yourself. A musical number where you control your character should make you wish for it to be longer. In the sinkhole it’s easily a minute too long. And by design you are always stopping, readjusting your route, going down wrong ways... there's no rythm
>Fight for Control. Why? Okay the Unknown is great when you come in, and the start where the Board tells you to jump is great, but when the music start it's really up to you to find something to do with it, so you end up just finding a random pod of mobs to whack, which is not particularly impressive or difficult at that point in the game.

>>748977352
I would say it does deserve the criticism but worth saying it's above average. The main issue to me is more that a lot of enemy types end up working interchangeably as fodder, and also that they throw everything at you from the faction relevant to the area, so the "theming" is kind of weak and encounter design doesn't really shine through, encounters tend to not be memorable.
I think the amount of enemies is comparable to Doom Eternal and you'll never see anyone claiming that game has an enemy variety problem, let alone a major problem. So they could definitely solve their issue without just increasing numbers.

Fully owned and self published, they make a lot more money on each copy sold for this one than any other game they've ever released, so they're very invested in making sure it stays alive if they can. The new CEO also specifically stated that his mission was to make Alan Wake and Control as profitable as franchises as their quality deserves to be, or something along those lines.
We're at least getting an Alan Wake 3 and a Control 3, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if they wrap up any loose ends for both and start something fresh after, which would be quite welcome too, I'm ready for something new. Games take too long to make and a trilogy is like 15 years nowadays.
>>
>>748972447
I really wish it hadn’t stayed so tucked away in its own little corner. It felt like Alan Wake 2 cracked the universe wide open, but barely anything substantial carried over here. Sure, we got that winter teaser hinting at AW3, but with zero sign of Mr. Door or any setup for the "rebranded" Quantum Break they’ll inevitably tackle down the line, it mostly felt like a rehash of Control that barely nudged the overarching plot forward.

Also, I’ll eat my hat if Control 3 doesn’t end up having dual protagonists. It begs the question: who’s the actual copy, Jesse or Dylan? Jesse explicitly wished for their parents to disappear back in Ordinary, what if Dylan himself was just another manifestation of a wish?

I just finished it.

8.5/10, I don't understand the reviews that gave this game a 7 or lower, wtf? It's better than the original game, and I loved the original.

The setting, level design, movement mechanics are so well done, I just loved moving around the map even if the combat was relatively lackluster and repetitive. Most games have repetitive combat, I don't understand the gripe.
But the world building, lore, atmosphere, even the characters are good and Dylan is a great character even better than Jesse. I loved how they developed him and Jesse and their backstory.

I really hope it sold well enough, the budget said it needs like 3-4 million units sold lifetime to make up for the budget and break even, it's just not fair man. I want more games like this and they always fucking struggle while ball and gun bullshit makes billions. This is the kind of game that needs to be made and we need more of.

>>748988690
Honestly, you should just jump in. Combat/mechanics are pretty basic, it plays like a light version of old-school Resident Evil but the story is where it shines. It captures that uncanny, weird atmosphere from Control, and if you love Twin Peaks, you’ll eat it up.

The format is something I see them replicate in Control 3: after the opening acts, it opens up into a Side A / Side B dual campaign that you can swap between whenever you want until the two sides converge.

Hedron is just there to destroy the Hiss, there's no indication that it's fighting anything else. The only greater design it seems to have is finding a vessel to exert its power more optimally, which is revealed to be Dylan.

They could’ve even kept Saga as one of the main characters, but made Casey a playable segment where they let you rampage against the Taken like Max Payne, complete with dual wielding. I wanted to like this game. It was one of my most anticipated games that year, but it was such a disappointment filled with missed opportunities.

>That's cheap as fuck for AAA standards
Sony blowing 300 millions on making AAA garbage doesn't mean they're setting any standard on how much budget a project needs to be successful.
Alan Wake 2 cost Epic 70mil (50 dev + 20 marketing) and it only started making money a a year after release, which is not good business.
Remedy owns the Control brand and I imagine they're being very careful with budgets and further planning since they funded half of development.

Full funding in exchange for store exclusivity in a single platform and you keep all the rights to a game that nobody else has been interested in funding in the past 13 years is one hell of a deal. Unless you think not having the game would be a better choice, in which case fair enough.

>Control 2's full production began in February 2025.[9] According to Remedy's annual report published in March, this phase is expected to last between 15 and 26 months, with a team size ranging from over 75 to 200 employees.
Not bad for one and a half years of full dev time.

>>
>>748990484
For all intents and purposes, it's likely that Alan accidentally created the Hiss by writing a poem, and we already know he set the plot-points of Control into motion via a Nightsprings script.
Alan doesn't have the same brute-force fighting power that Jesse or Dylan has, but it's obvious his abilities are much more broad and universal. The Dark Presence also seems to be far smarter, powerful, and insidious than either the Hiss or Hedron.

>>748990623
Seems unlikely that Resonant will have DLCs since there's not teaser for them in the base game. AW2 had the Lakehouse and Nightsprings teasers in-game, Control had teasers for Foundation and AWE in the base game as well. The only thing Resonant has are those weird spy bases and maybe playing as Jesse inside her own head or something, since she's apparently conscious.

Powerlevels in Control are weird because lorewise parautilitarian power is the shit but in gameplay, mostly you see people chucking cars and masonry at each other. Granted, in Control 1 Jesse was throwing things around hard enough to fuck up the building-sized FORMER. But also parautilitarian powers doesn't seem to be purely physical. It's never suggested Dylan can level buildings with the Aberrant and its big finishing moves seem to be mostly the Aberrant conjuring implements, but he beats the shit out of Resonants who can just blow up swathes of Hiss like what Polaris did in Control on steroids.

It is unclear, but personally I think in terms of power the siblings are roughly comparable. Based on the Board's endorsement and the fact Dylan sure as hell doesn't know how to do what she did before the game started, I think Jesse has better raw powers. But the Aberrant is probably the better weapon since just walking up to the Hedron and killing it doesn't seem to have been an option for Jesse.

I'd still bet on Jesse in a fight, though. Not because of her powers but because she has a fucking gun that she can turn into a rocket launcher with instant transmission (if she put that one Fra upgrade on it) and Dylan isn't more agile than elite Hiss mooks or Third Thing!Hartman.

>>748952172
My interpretation of the Hedron's ramblings was that the greater threat it was there to fight WAS the Hiss, that it's even worse than what humanity knows about it. I mean think about it-yeah, the Hiss is getting mega-bullied in this game but that's a Hiss strain cut off from that slide dimension hellscape. There could be entire universes subsumed by the Hiss. I saw the Hedron as being like a soldier with PTSD who is determined to conscript civilians, simply because the alternative is the Hiss spreading all over reality like wavelength AIDS
>>
Reading this thread really makes me realize that a lot of people didn't play at least the Alan Wake 2 DLCs.

>>748995908
The Hedron, as also stated in the 3rd episode of Night Springs, Alan Wake 2's DLC it's just some alien giant waeapon, that if it used, yes it destroys your enemies, but it has the equivalent power of an atomic bomb. That's why for example in Control Resonant when they go to the slide where Polaris is in and connects with Jesse, it looks like a red desert, because the hedron destroyed the threat but at the same time it destroys everything around it.

My thoughts on Jesse/Dylan powerlevels are here >>748995610. Alan is weird because him and the Dark Presence (which AW2 confirmed is literally just his bad vibes made manifest by the Dark Place; you literally see it chasing him like a giant basedjack or BOB's form in Twin Peaks as a big screaming storm. It can't even catch up to a middleaged writer on foot lmao) are way, way worse at fighting than they are at reality warping (since the Dark Presence can just reshape reality into Alan being the bestest writer ever when it gains control in reality, while the Hiss just mindfucks people and even when it shows up in person somewhere it just paints the town red). The Dark Presence is defeated by a literal deus ex machina plot bullet (which I guess is also the baby form of the Light Presence from AW1?) Alan bumblefucked his way into finding, and NG+ after the first timeloop.

In other words, I fully believe Dylan and Jesse could beat Alan's ass in a fight, but theoretically Alan could write a story where they never fight at all and have reality conform to that...if he's willing to stay in the Dark Place. Or pull out the Clicker and make a plot device happen. Tbh the real reason Alan can't win against Jesse and Dylan is because he's a wannabe Stephen King hack writer, he LITERALLY cannot think in terms of powerlevels so he will NEVER write a story where he can beat Jesse and Dylan, who he wrote to save his dumb ass after he fucked up reality trying to write his way out of the Dark Place with horror stories instead of a dumb sappy romance.

>>748995772
I don't blame Dylan, that thing is fucked even by Resonant standards. He just wanted to make sure he hit all of it whereas the others are mostly human-shaped.

My personal GOTY.

Followed by Saros.
The more I think about it, combining the lore / world of Control with the gameplay mechanics of Saros / Returnal would be pure kino. The games are already pretty similar even in terms of movement mechanics. It would just work so well

It's been a pretty good year for single player game enjoyers like me.

Mewgenics
Halo Campaign Evolved (wasn't that bad)
Resident Evil 9
Saros
007 First Light
Plague Tale Legacy
Blood of Dawnwalker
Star Wars Zero Company
Control Resonant
Onimusha
Silent Hill Townfall (haven't played this yet, it's on my backlog as is Onimusha)
Ace Combat 8 which I just started today
Galactic Racer
Castlevania
OoT Remake
GoW E-Day which I want to play but not now

then just next year in Jan-Feb we got
Metro 2039
Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis
Metroid Ravenous
Fable
Exodus
nu GoW Laufey (yes I'll play this idgaf)
FFVII Revelation

and that's just the first few months, more shit will be announced at the game awards I'm sure.

The thing is that the FBC are not experts on Parautilitarians at all. Northmoor was considered to be extremely powerful, but could only bind a few items at a time and could barely toss shit telekinetically. Meanwhile Alan keeps accidentally re-writing reality.

Jesse, Dylan, and Wake are all significantly beyond what the FBC has studied, and they don't understand anything about them. A lot of Jesse's power also comes from Objects of Power and powers granted to her by the Board/Former, whereas Dylan's is just innate (he can float without binding the TV) because he simple remembers that he can fly. He also has no Polaris or other entity to defend him against the Hiss and yet he can resist it freely, the only other character that can do anything like that is Alan with the Dark Presence. It's like he's capable of doing whatever he needs to do autonomously.

The Aberrant is also significantly more powerful than the Service Weapon, and it's likely that way because of Dylan. On paper it's just a piece of the Nail that Jesse bound the Board to and used them to wake him up.
>>
>>748996512
Sir? Your Mina the Hollower?

>>748996228
I don't see the DLC lore as mutually exclusive with Resonant. Resonance entities are really alien to humans and in the text game Hedron was cooperating with Jesse and Tim to fight Mr. Door; the Hedron Tim initially found was just doing stuff in a way that made it look and seem like an inanimate object to Tim. Also I imagine different Hedrons have different powerlevels since they made a point in Resonant of highlighting the Hedron Jesse found was at the end of its life cycle, however that works
>>
>>748996517
Mostly agree, the problem with figuring out Control powerlevels is that nobody actually knows what the hell is going on. Except maybe the eldritch entities that speak in slam poetry, voice clips or jargle purple monkey floopy Dublin snake oil.

>innate
Are we sure it's all him? Given he woke up because Jesse slammed the Aberrant into him, I assumed a lot of his powers came from binding it like an OoP. I'm not sure I'd definitely say it's more powerful than the Service Weapon (it's still a gun you can shoot FORMER or other eldritch horrors like the Third Thing to death with) but it IS pretty goddamn powerful if I'm right and, finishing moves aside, it's the reason why Dylan can copy the powers of Resonants he beats.

>On paper
Well, OoPs tend to result from paranatural entities coming into contact with regular stuff (like that photo someone took of Ahti) so I just assumed the Aberrant is a buff one because Jesse crammed the Board into it
>>
>>748996702
didn't play it, but sure add it to the list.

Either way, even if none of these games are 10/10s, it's been a fantastic year for single player gamers
>>
>>748996427
A lot of it it's explained also there. Same for the Hedron and why Polaris was the way it was. Because:
You either use the Hedron as a weapon of mass destruction or you link with its energy, just like the Hiss. You just have to handle it and do not let it consume you. Basically what Jesse managed to do with her link up.

The fact is that Control Resonant does its best to not recall back all the precedent games because it lacks the Sam Lake touch, it can be considered a good thing or not. But at the same time, it feels more self-contained that leaves all of this stuff unexplained.

>>748996707
Because that portion of the story it was made by Alan Wake, but still a lot of stuff are very in lined to what Resonant has shown to us. And yes very likely the Hedrons are all different, but the point is still the same. It's a weapon that will defeat your desired enemy. (Jesse wished that her parents should just disappear, what did Polaris do? With its destructive power it made every parent in the City disappear. Showing once again, that yeah it's powerful but it has a massive destructive power.)

>I assumed a lot of his powers came from binding it like an OoP
Dr. Darling's research shows repeatedly that Dylan can't bind OoPs, so unless Jesse forcibly bound it to him somehow, who knows. What we do know is that Dylan repeatedly manifests whatever he needs in the moment when he receives the right motivation. Even the post-game examination of the Aberrant claims that it just becomes whatever he needs during combat.

>if I'm right and, finishing moves aside, it's the reason why Dylan can copy the powers of Resonants he beats.
I wonder if Dylan simply has the ability to store and Resonant Lifeforms in general. He absorbed the Hiss without the Aberrant and was using its powers freely in the first game, we know he pushed out Polaris and at the end of the game after killing the Hedron he just flat-out refuses to be pattered. The Board doesn't help with any of this, they're in panic mode the entire time. In fact they actively tell him he can't do most of the shit he does for the majority of the game.

Stuff like this makes me think Dylan is just fundamentally more powerful than Jesse, just less driven and confident in his abilities.

Their symbol in the document you can find kind of looks like the Former, no? Makes sense that he would act as the board for a new organization that does kind of like what the FBC does, while also keeping an eye on them and monitoring the lockdown. Wasn't he implied to be free at the end of Foundation? Though I guess not necessarily free from the Oldest House, just the Astral Plane.
>>
>>748997768
Huh. That's a good point actually. Honestly I initially thought the Board was doing the power copying because of how they seemingly muscled into the Oldest House and seemingly hijacked the Id. But actually parautilitarians all having different specialties would explain why Alan is a much worse fighter but a much better reality warper, and Tim/Door seem to be more about multiverse travel.

I wonder what they're going to do with Door? I hope it's not going to be as straightforward as "he's a well-intentioned multiversal-level villain who will be defeated by getting talked down by his daughter" as Tim's DLC made him out to be, especially after the Old Gods seemingly cooperated with him to help out Alan.

Because Darling fucked up on how to force the power out of it. Dylan was just a shy and a sensitive kid. When he was a child because he was feeling secure together with Jesse, he was able to fight out the dung monkeys that were his former classmates. Darling fucked up by changing the method and being more abrasive and distant from him and the tipping point was Roberts. That guard straight up was beating up Dylan and he pushed him to the edge but in a different way. Just out of rage and he couldn't control his abilities.

Yes, but Pope is currently the sole Acting Director after Arish got Resonanted, you'd think she'd appoint him as Acting Co-Director or something.

No not a quest I'm talking about the two fbc agents that stole Langston's chair and teases him about ghosts

Its funny to think that the situation in Manhattan would probably be unsalvageable if Jessie didn't set up the who co director autonomous chain of command thing with pope before she left. Genuinely how has the FBC functioned for so long with some of the stuff or lack thereof in place. Before Jessie it seemed like anytime a director got compromised that was just it and they were fucked.

yeah but that felt like a im just stepping in to fill in for operational type shit until a real director is chosen otherwise the oldest house rejects them so its more pseudo than that i think dylan will have to take over for control 3 but who knows they might go for someone from the org spying on the fbc instead? maybe a resonant itself or jesse inside that domain and all levels are just complete upside down kaleidoscope insanity or insane worlds like the slides?

It's funny how even the lore Youtuber videos on the subject don't meaningfully clarify things.
I hated Alan Wake 2. Didn't even finish it. Not pirating it again just to play the DLCs.
