I remember wanting that game because I think I saw it in a gaming magazine while I was sat on the shitter, and obviously the screenshots really sell it, but never got it as those were the days of only really buying one or two games for months.
Having seen the Mandalore video I don't think I missed out.

>>
>>748952434
I dunno I think a lot of them are on par but nostalgia bumps them up, or they were at least more creative in a couple of key aspects. Soul Suspect really played like a modern AAA game to me where it was a wasted setting/concept due to the remarkably mid gameplay. Then stuff like Inversion or Timeshift or even Dark Sector kinda are basically the "boring AAA game trying to have 1 shit gimmick that doesnt matter" template they still use to this day.
Lots are better though or at least were *trying*, which modern AAA games really don't feel like they are.

Or maybe it's just cos a ton of these, while kinda mid-tier cashgrabs, weren't stuffed full of politics and microtransactions so they just feel less malicious.

I wonder if that was the first "high profile disaster" I ever actually saw. It was marketed so heavily, constantly called a TF2 killer and stuff, and was dead in literally DAYS. Every review outlet, even the shills, dumpstered it.
Unless Haze came out before it, but I remember seeing Brink first but it's been a long fucking time.

Was there a PS2 or Xbox HUEG game that was a high profile shitshow? I can't remember any.

>>
>>748952634
We had this release a few years ago and it got instantly dismissed for not being silent hill when its a competent brawler that feels like a 6th gen game in every good way.
Gamers are just less willing to even give experimental games a passing glance because we're so overstimulated with marketting for new games when back then it was whatever was in magazines and on tv spots or whatever was on shelves at rental stores.
>>
>>748952771
probably not a "high profile" failure, but it didn't match the level of quality that Halo did, at the time. or even pre-COD4 COD or Medal of Honor. somehow it was successful enough to get a sequel greenlit, which ended up being the biggest bait and switch from E3 showcase to final product. surprises me to think they allowed another sequel after Killzone 2.

That one sticks with me because it I think it was the first time I saw people give out like 1/10 and 2/10 scores. >>748953229
The Order could've been something interesting if they designed it to play like a standard game rather than some bizarre interactive cinematic hybrid. was a massive letdown picking it up. it did teach me that a game going on sale for cheap is a typical indicator of its lack of quality though, so that's something.
>>
>>748953310
I'm pretty sure it's just mediocre compared to the other Dishonored entries. It has so little to get happy/angry about that people just go "MUH BLACKS" instead.
I suspect if you like Dishonored but aren't a hardcore fan you'd probably play it, have medium fun, then forget about it once you're done.
>>
>>748952173
No, God Hard does not just disable weapon upgrades. Everything becomes way harder.
>>
>>748953345
>rather than some bizarre interactive cinematic hybrid
It was just a tech demo. Really they realised the PS4 had no fucking games coming out on release, and the ones that were didn't look enough like an upgrade to make people upgrade from the PS3. I think it was made nearly solely to try and get people to think the PS4 was a giant step in technology rather than the fact that since the 360/PS3 things were starting to have diminishing returns.
>it did teach me that a game going on sale for cheap is a typical indicator of its lack of quality though
I'd been pulling PS1 games out of "5 bucks" bargain bins since I was a kid as thats all the folks could afford so I learned pretty quickly. Only a few gems came out of that.

Dennis Dyack, boss guy of Silicone Knights went on many game show back then to promote and overhype his tripe, but it was basically putting wool over the eyes over the glazed journos. Telling tall tales about "senior devs who stayed to work on the game instead of going on retirement" and how incredibly deep it was.
After it was released, those journos were baffled by how lame it played, some still couldn't believe it and they gave it higher scores than it deserved. Solo/ newcomers like Yahtzee slapped most of everyone awake.

Better yet it had the genius idea to give you all the fun mechanics at the start of the game but then take them away when you lost access to the drugs.
I have no idea who thought that was a good idea unless they were trying to sell a message like Spec Ops but it felt very flimsy in its messaging at best.

People still play xonotic which was born from the previous incarnation of this game. 300 players at peak hours but still fun.
>>
>>748956069
It's also not nearly as bad as the people who didn't play it think it was. I'm not saying it was good, mostly because of the shitty levels (from the "chest-high walls everywhere" school of game design) and dogshit AI for both allies and enemies, but it had some pretty neat aspects as well, including a really neat third-act twist.
It was like bargain bin mass effect and obviously tried riding on that wave, but it just didn't have that same depth. But it wasn't an absolute waste of time, compared to the average release today it would probably be considered great.
>>
>>748951949

Nexuiz used to be an open source project. They then tried to go commercial and a bunch of devs split and made a spiritual successor based on the OG game. Nexuiz of today is the commercial game.
It's oldskool quake arena style arena shooting. It's very fast and has a few extra mechanics that make it more dynamic than something like quake champions. It's also free and open source. Very fun but it's an arena shooter so expect to get steamrolled by vets for weeks before you get the hang of it.

I remember really liking the remake of the original Prince of Persia that was available there. It featured Sands of Time Prince and a few quality of life improvements as well as additional platforming maneuvers (like running one direction towards a drop, reversing your facing while you dropped down and using momentum to swing you forward)

I actually got to second in the world on the time trial mode leaderboards.

I wouldn't say absolute shit, but it was they type of mid game you would see in the 7th gen a lot: a game with a lot of interesting ideas that could've been great if implemented well, but ended up okay to mid because of bad implementation.

the entire game being an escort quest but were the escorted chick is packing heat and also able to fight and you're invincible, with destructible regrowing limb isn't a horrible idea so much as the gameplay is still just a mid TPS at its core.

Overly maligned though. I'd say it's 5/10 at worst, 6-7/10 if you're a fan of TPSes but Jim Sterling and the gaggle of his fellow mentally journos at the time gave it a 2/10 which is insane to me. It's not a bad game so much as it's just servicable weekend rental fare at the time.

I played Bulletstorm on PS3, PS4 and then on PC and i agree. I still found it enjoyable on consoles but on PC it was the most fun but then again, isn't that with pretty much most FPS games?
>>
>>748996268
>Was this was the one where you could drive your decapitated head around?
Yeah, and you would attach your limbs when you touched them. So you could end up rolling around as a head with two arms attached, each firing a gun.
>>
>>748997000
Enough FPS games give you enough auto-aim/magnetism/actual-decent-acceleration-curves where I'm not often feeling like I'm fighting with the controls to get them doing what I want to do. Problem with Bulletstorm is you WANT to chain stuff together (because it's fun) but then you're fighting with the controller to turn/aim fast enough to keep up with enemies you're juggling.

I had the same issue with Vanquish. Loved it n PS3, but it became a whole other thing with its late PC port and I could finally go ham with the mouse.
>>

Shame that Sumo Digital will probably never go back to Snake Pass, but hey it's on Steam for very cheap right now.

I have the Switch physical version, it actually has an update that isn't available digitally, so playing the physical version will block you from playing a digital version unless you do local update sharing with a second console.
I don't know what the update changes though, might be a publisher technicality since the physical was through Super Rare Games.

>might still have the word milk banned and freak out if you mention the live viewercount in chat

Boon. I still wonder how he got in their group. If he ever says a real gamer word I don't know how they'll say "But he's one of the good ones!" to their trans chats, but I expect them to say it.

This game gave disappointment a new meaning for me. 4/10
>>

The twist actually made me laugh out loud
>>
>>749012265
what was it
>>

His own ghost was the murderer that turned him into a ghost all along using ghost bullets in the past
>>
>>749012627
the fuck?
>>
>>749012670
He figures out that if he doesn't make himself a ghost then the other mysteries along the way would never get solved so he has to shoot himself with the ghost of his gun to ensure that he's able to go on to help the other ghosts that he already helped. It's why the wounds glow, ghost bullet wounds
lol

>nooo John, you ARE the murderer!
>And then, John was a ghost

When you think about it he really was the Murdered: Soul Suspect all along

Because they were not capable of anticipating that 5-10 years later down the line, videogames would degenerate to such an extent, that most of them would be inferior to playing singleplayer mmos from early 2000's.

almost as weird as beyond: two souls' twist.

This game wasn't really good. It's like Hasbro decided 'We need to have a competitor with Return of the King and NOW!" and they produced this.

Killer is dead....

After about 10 years someone on here told me the entire game was just a reference to Mario and I didn't realise it once.

This and Fracture had some cool ideas

This game was great, made me wish I could fly around outside the level

>Mediums are being targeted and killed
>It was an evil little girl all along
>No real reason behind it like revenge. She was just hated mediums so much they executed her for being so radically against them and she became a ghost out of sheer spite
>"You are too based to be alive" just sends my sides flying
There's more in the game too
Scary jpegs that appear sometimes because oOoOOh ghosts
Side content unlocks little ghost stories which are kinda like goosebumps There was a scary scream. Was it a ghost? No, it was some guy!!!!!
There's a drowned woman ghost who was cool but the enemies in the game feel really arbitrary like they made a walking sim them got told off so they added random enemies
Not very good/10

It fell to the same tropes it made fun of but I had way too much fun with it. One of the earliest games I followed the development of early on..

It's also pretty fun from what I remember.

true. although not sure how much of a leg up shadow of rome has over it. at least I knew of ryse and played it.

Soul Suspect was okay. The only real gameplay involved dodging evil ghosts in hallways. I remember a couple of the actresses were cute.
>>

It's funny seeing people complain about the oversaturation of soulslikes nowadays considering it absolutely pales in comparison to the amount of garbage action games that were coming out in the 2000s.

>>749015993
You now remember that weird DMC like where your character had a Mayan scythe weapon and it was like indiana jones style levels.

It's funny to think how "with a twist" is so common that someone just straight adapting something becomes a rare bit of appeal. So many games are "Here's a generic horror movie monster roughly based on dragons or minotaurs or gryphons" that its fun seeing real dragons or gryphons show up.
>>
>>748951345
I remember renting it for the 360 and the controls feeling janky. Like you'd be doing combos and there was a palpable pause between each attack sequence as you had to let each animation finish before the game would recognize button inputs.

>>
>>748976931
This game could have been something great if it wasn't made during the peak of EA's microtransaction hell phase, the core gameplay was really fun but fuck me was it horrendously over-monetised and blatantly P2W at the same time.
>>
>>749018645
It never released, it was just on the discs playstation magazine used to release.

>unreal 4

time has flown by so far and fast that people think it's only been UE4 and 5 all this time?
They were using UE3 without a legally obtained license or something rather, and court ordered every single copy of the game destroyed lmao
If anyone owns a physical copy of it still, they're actually breaking the law lul
>>
>>748990617
the studio shut down very recently, rip
how this back on 360 as well as the cold war version, they were great
