I'm normally a pretty anti-remake person, so I think the RE games from 1996-2005 are already perfect and don't need remakes. But I tried playing the OG Code Veronica and I literally couldn't get past 2 hours because I couldn't fucking STAND Steve. His voice, his personality, he's literally the worst character I've ever seen in a video-game. And I'm sure Capcom's number 1 priority was to fix that in the remake, since that's the chief complaint. So I may actually buy it, if it'll IMPROVE (which is what a remake is supposed to do). What do you think, fellow anti-remake bros?

Veronica is one of the remakes I can get behind because the original has some cool ideas but its just not executed well, which are the kind of games that should get remakes. REmake4 was decent but being just decent when you're a remake to one of the greatest games ever made is obviously going to be contentious. Veronica has much more room to be interesting because its building on something that actually has room for improvement

Resident Evil Veronica may be a good game, but considering it takes place in the remake timeline, it is already tainted by its predecessors. Plus I don't think the remakes have the soul of the franchise in them, so it's a moot point regardless. They're far too westernized.

It's not like things were so bad before anyway since Umbrella, the government and the rival company were their own groups doing their things (With again, the rival company being aggressive opportunist), but now Connections is just manipulating everyone, and Requiem is what made them so boring, they were fine in RE7 when they were just a new threat, and RE8 adding that Bailey created Connections after Umbrella screwed him over was a fine way to keep ties with Umbrella (It did retcon his previously reported death though), but there's just no real benefit to making them be behind everything besides making them be far bigger than they were hinted to be before.

I loved back when Umbrella was a faceless, shadow, almost Illuminati-like organization that used a pharmaceutical organization as a front, and was essentially untouchable because it had world governments in its pocket. Unfortunately, RE4 tossed all that with that awful intro, which I will never not be mad about, so there’s no putting that toothpaste back in the tube, but the Connections is the next best thing as far as I’m concerned.It’s clear that Capcom also knows that they fucked up by getting rid of Umbrella too, because they’ve spent almost 20 years trying to make that lightning strike twice with Tricell, Neo-Umbrella, “The Family”, etc. Maybe The Connections will be another fumbled attempt, but it feels like they’re actually putting a bit more effort in this time, and I’m willing to see where they’re going with it. I think that ultimately, whatever they do, the franchise needs a “lore master” to keep everything straight, because it’s been a mess for ages.
