Has a videogame ever made you cry or get really emotional? If so which one and what scene? (Don't answer with Lee's Death or FF6 Celes suicide, you guys are supposed to be the vidya experts, cmon now.)

I know it's cliche, but RDR2's afraid scene is it. Playing the full game gives you the context to cry, you can't just shove your phone in someone's face for upvotes, they won't get it.

MojaveD's playthrough really gives it more depth; old boomer who has more in common with a sick dying man than most gamers, it's truly special.

Drapline true ending, especially the epilogue. I've played through it 3 times now and still get teary
spoilers: basic plot is similar to madoka. before the final boss, she proclaims what she wants to do when she grows up when she doesn't turn into a calamity dragon (madoka witch) based on a number of factors. after breaking the cycle and saving your dragon daughter, you get a CG of her grown up into a teenager. i just watery eyed just thinking about how powerful that first experience was

Not that many. The Red Moon chapter from Disgaea is one of the few that comes to mind.

Yeah plenty of times. I get really immersed in videogames. Most recently, when I had to kill Walter in AC6.

The first time I cried over a game was the ending of Lufia 2. I'd never played the first game so I got blindsided by the ending. To this day, I can't listen to For the Savior or the ending theme without misting up.

Playing Disco Elysium after my marriage of fifteen years ended. I'd enjoyed the game before that but afterwards I felt it.

No specific scene, although the phone call broke me since it was something I'd done myself and there's only torment there.

I don't think it counts as the game itself doing it, rather a scene reminded me of something emotional.
I saw this just a few days after my dog died.

For me, it's less about the game itself. Music is the real trigger. It hits way too hard.

I can relate. I think what really got me during the big reveal flashback in FF7 was the way the score lined up perfectly with the scene.

Shame they fucked that up in later versions so it's just dead silence.

The last time was surprisingly recently. The premise of Kernel Hearts is that the world has gone to shit due to humanity's rampant sins, and that calamity spurred on even more horrific acts once they discovered the magical powers that sprouted inside young girls. Flash forward a long while and the remnants of humanity are struggling to survive a cataclysm that slowly erodes their memories, and using their last chance they give new life to the magical girls whom you play as that are tasked with facing the tower's trial in humanity's place and defeating the divine threat. Every time they die inside they're revived back at the village because they're actually just digital copies of humans who were magical girls. So that's what they do, go about trying to clear the tower while learning about the people still struggling to survive and befriending the other magical girls.

Until you beat the final boss of Kernel Hearts where it's revealed that humanity is already doomed, but temporarily saved by being placed in an eternal stalemate maintained only by God sacrificing himself repeatedly in order to give humanity another day by forcing the tower to use more energy reviving him after the girls manage to win.The magical girls all learn that everything they do in the tower is meaningless, if they go back in the only thing waiting is another version of God to fight. There's genuinely nothing they can do to save humanity, but instead of despairing or throwing a tantrum they pick up their weapons again and head back into the tower. Despite all the pain and hardships they went through due to humanity, they still decided to repay the kindness of the people who brought them this far and truly fight for humanity. Finally embodying the true role of a magical girl as a symbol of hope.
It's incredibly cheesy, but so heartwarming and earnest that it got me. Especially since I wasn't expecting anything from the plot.
