wait, mirrors used to work in videogames? what the fuck?
>>
>>748959218
rendering two rooms is hard now despite better technology
>>
>>748959614
Don't they artificially add extra triangles so the mesh contains up to 70% of useless triangles and also add visual effects that eat up your GPU processing power?
>>
>>748959614
Why don't they just prolong the room, make it symmetrical and mirror the character
>>
>>748959218
dude i havent seen a working mirror in a modern game in like 3 years

We used to have physics in video games, too.
>>
>>748959876
They have them in Control Resonant
>>
>>748959218
>>748959880
10 poly room back then vs 50000000 poly room now, ye bro just render it twice!
>>

They have physics in Control Resonant
>>
>>748959218
Lots of games still have working mirrors they just render the mirror side at a really low resolution or low poly model
>>
>>748959218
Actually games never had real working mirrors until pathtracing became a thing. So games are only just now getting actual light to reflect scenes in game

The opposite. OP posted an actual mirror, raytracing "mirrors" aren't real mirrors

Why it's always these tiny ass mirrors in tiny rooms? Post some actually interesting stuff at this scale for example
>>
>>748959218
they aren't actual mirrors, they just render the room twice. it was possible because old games had worse graphics
>>
>>748959614
yes because rendering the scene twice for one mirror is expensive
raytracing was supposed to fix this, but they can't get that to work so we get nothing instead
>>
>>748959614
How the hell did Rockstar do it in RDR2? The barbershop mirror in Saint Denis even reflects the street outside

Did you ever play RE2R? It looks like blurry shit if you don't enable downsampling from 4K and RTX reflections (and mirrors everywhere except that room still don't work)
>>
>>748960318
now post 10 more modern games with working mirrors
or 6
or just 3

sadly i did, luckily i dont remember shit other than the adaptative difficulty shit (which made me not replay it

Yeah and the ram for a PS1 was between 512kb and 2mb. What the fuck is the excuse for modern games that are using 8gb-16gb minimum?
No really what the fuck is the excuse here? This is Silent Hill Origins on the PSP for fuck sake, and yet modern games still don't have this as standard, when they do it's the rare exception like Control Resonant, so rare that it's a shock to people.
Come on? Oh that's right you didn't think of that because you're a fucking idiot trying to justify the enshitification of game developers.

so we were actually limited technically back then and now we can do real time reflections at a massively larger scale. so what’s the point of this thread if it’s better now?

Here is working mirror technology in 1999 (Tomb Raider IV: Last Revelation).
>>
>>748961810
A 5080 needs FrameGen on a 2015 game to barely hit 60 FPS.
You cannot play UE5 games natively without upscalers and hold stable FPS.

we can?

what about working raindrops
>>
>>748962194
yes. does that mean it’s used in every video game today? well no, just like functional mirrors weren’t present in every game back then.
>>
>>748961714
RE2R was AMD sponsored so of course it looks like dogwater. AMD is Holding PC gaming back for le heckin equality with consoles
>>
>>748962452
is it used in most games today?
>>
>>748959218
Not only mirrors. For example in hitman contracts some blood pools have real reflections. You can switch to a first person mode and see yourself in a blood pool.
