That's pretty nice. I like when games have custom difficulty settings

Game looks like shit, not sure why they insist upon farming out this IP to western developers. I enjoyed M2's effort with Haunted Castle Revisited, but the last real original title we got was Judgement on the Wii right? I feel old.
>>
>>748964432
Logically, it's just mods for consolebabs but all games should have 1 unified experience for everyone instead of this custom bullshit.
>>

Iga didn't create Castlevania.
>>

It's more than just having options man. Why should the onus be on the player to design the game balance for the game devs?

Last original title was Order of Ecclesia, at least on the mainline series. The last game developed by Iga was Harmony of Despair.

Games should be balanced so that everyone has the same curated journey, or a ser of them (normal, hard, extreme, etc). The variable is the player and the actions they choose to overcome that journey. When you toss in other variables that can be scaled then the journey is meaningless. No one is on the same adventure and the feats we accomplished are meaningless because any retard can reach the end without putting in the effort.

The only thing that should change are how the player engages with the systems and rules presented, not the systems themselves.
>>
>>748965934
It makes it impossible to have a real conversation about bosses as well and it gives people the option to cheese through them without thinking. It's ruins discussions of games and the shared experience.

Accessibility is a lame modern trend. Let people be filtered, Dark Souls got popular off doing that.

I don’t really think this is that bad, but I also don’t understand how retarded devs don’t want to make their game challenging in the proper way. Would giving the player infinite star power in super mario be good game design? Even if it was "optional"?

>They game's balanced by default,
No it isn't. Then these options would be superfluous. And any "intentional" game design immediately becomes superfluous when you are going to give away these things to the player.

>>748966549
So then you just end up nullifying your own game design?
How is this game design exactly? It's literally just anti-design.
>>
>>748964432

>>
>>748966790
It's cool to have options to make specific things harder or easier according to user preference. You can just not use them, most people won't. Plenty of games had this style of difficulty selection. E.Y.E Divine Cybermancy is a good example, even having presets for different playstyles, like a stealth mode where enemies are accurate and lethal, but are shittier at detecting you so it's not pure pain to try and stealth through the whole game. Does it work fully in practice? Eh, kinda. But it's cool, didn't take much work to put in, and it's the sort of shit modders can and will do regardless. Why not put it in the game? I think you just want something to bitch about because you're bored.
>>
>>748965919

>the feats we accomplished are meaningless because any retard can reach Do you also believe life is meaningless because some people are born into wealth or just get lucky?
>>
>>748964432
Pathfinder and BG3 have custom difficulty as well.
>>
>>748966085
>Games should be balanced so that everyone has the same curated journey
this doesn't work if you have freedom. Someone who just goes into e.g. Elden Ring solo has a vastly different experience than someone who uses a guide and summons.
>or a ser of them (normal, hard, extreme, etc)
Khazan launched with easy and normal difficulty but people where so full of themselves that they dropped the game once they hit a wall instead of switching to easy. The devs turned then easy into normal, normal into hard and introduced a mouthbreather difficulty as easy on top of a new hardcore difficulty replicating the original intended difficulty.
>>
>>748964432
There should be a game that uses these for some end ranking like Metal Gear Solid. They could measure what sliders you change, how long you have them changed, and evaluate which ones make the game easier or harder.
>>
>>748964432
>>748964514
They did balance it. See "default settings."
>>
it's so game urinalists can actually play their game without giving it a 6/10 for having the difficulty solely designed for them
>>
>>748967174
There are games that do that already
>>
I don't care.
>yeah I pick easy mode, it's an INTENDED OPTION
>yeah I fly over some levels in Mario 3, it's an INTENDED OPTION
>yeah I deleted vergil 3 with holy waters, it's an INTENDED OPTION
>yeah I summon players or NPCs in souls games before bosses it's an INTENDED OPTION
>yeah I used the balance modifiers to disable death it's an INTENDED OPTION
These are all the same thing. Yes they're intended options, and the INTENTION is to lower the difficulty. People can clearly tell this when it's a literal easy mode selection. The intent is lost on low IQ people when it's intrinsic. Now with these customizable sliders and dip switches, it is a return to the intent being clearer. None of it affects me or anyone who isn't interested in taking options that are specifically intended to lower the difficulty.
>>
>>748964432
Just don't enable it and you get the dev intended experience?

>>
>>748966085
This isn't possible even in a game without difficulties unless the game has no gameplay choices. As soon as you add a second weapon you have different experiences. Go play tetris if you want a curated experience
>>
>>748964432
Why do people in here want to turn everything into some kind of bad faith controversy?
>>
If the only options were to make the game harder and there was no option to make the game easier everyone would call it based
>>
>>748966097
>It makes it impossible to have a real conversation about bosses
why? If you know they turned down difficulty you know they experienced something in a different way you did. If you talk about a souls boss you cant tell either what the person did unless they reveal those details.
>>
>>748967065
>Just don't use the infinite star power durr
Just don't put it in the game and actually design/balance it instead.
>>
>>748967471
This is a good comparison.
Fighting a boss in elden ring with a greatsword and no magic, vs a katana with sorceries, vs a lance and shield, vs two daggers and incantations are completely different experiences that vastly change the difficulty of each encounter depending. That's basically the appeal of the game.
>>
>>748964432
I actually prefer difficulty options like this. Feels way better than the arbritary easy (no one picks this option), normal (most of the time this is what the game is intended to be), and hard (sometimes this is what the game is intended to be but for the most part it's just bullshit).
>>
Every time I see one of these threads I genuinely wonder what kind of fucking videogame do perpetual shitposters want. It's like they're never satisfied with anything.
>>
>>748967534
They did. You're the one too retarded to not put the game on easy mode. I put my games on the harder difficulties when available. Have some self control and reread my post, because I think I was right on the money. You don't really care and aren't thinking about it, you're bored and want to be mad.
>>
>>748967268
Yep lets pretend cheats never existed before!
There's multiple ways of toning down a game's difficulty but have you ever even thought of making it more difficult besides self imposed challenges? Have you even played more video games than these urinalists?
A whole genre like JRPGs for one is almost always braindead easy for anyone that has played one before. There are no organic ways of increasing the difficulty besides barring yourself from using certain mechanics of the game.

>>748967471
You have no common point of reference, moves that can 1 shot you at 2x damage will tickle then at .1x. Consider how much discussion bosses like Balteus in AC6 got for being a filter. With these accessibility options, you could make it so he does no damage to you, that's not a conversation point. That's not a shared bonding point for people that beat the game.

You can make different builds to try to cheese it but the base damage and health are consistent.
>>
>>748967793
People still insist that the game with "pretend you beat the boss" should have been GotY, how's this different?
>>
>>748967591
Discussing how you overcame the challenge is a part of the discussion to be fair, "i turned down the settings" doesn't contribute anything and people can't bash their head on a boss until they find something that works. You are essentially giving people the ability to skip over anything they don't want to engage with.

I'd suggest implementing mechanics that make the game more challenging and progressively toning them down or stripping them out entirely as one lowered the difficulty.
It'd make no sense to do it like that, though, as you'd be making a game knowing damn well the average player wouldn't see half of it.

Yeah and it also takes away the coolest part of traditional difficulty settings: new content like enemies, bosses, and their movesets. Games that actually changed on higher difficulty were fucking based. Just put the "custom mode" sliders behind a cheat code or something for people who want it

You have no idea if you're going to summon Let Me Solo Her or someone bad or average and then you have to actually play the game or else you die even with the helper. Sliders are guaranteed, you're rolling a gacha when summoning for help in a Souls games and even then it's highly contested within their community. Sliders are an actual "skip this content" mechanic.

FWIW, I'm not a fan of difficulty modes either. I think all games should be 1 standard difficulty and the entire game should be balanced around it. Not

>>
>>748970017

You are being disingenuous. You know as well as I that being able to freely manipulate damage values and even turn on "Prevent death" is a lot different than say overleveling.
You still have to play the game even if you level above the recommended in shit like Elden ring. Hell, even the cheese builds require you to still somewhat know what you are doing. Turning on God mode will let you just button mash to victory.

The default slider settings, that is the game design chosen by the devs. They just give you the option (OPTION, as in, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO DO IT) to change them. It is not the "you do the game design for us." The game design has already been done, by them. That's the default slider settings. Just leave them alone you faggot and quit crying about having more options.
Brown people are so fucking dumb.

I also explained that TWEWY was intentionally there to make the point that this is about a broader game design feature than simply post-game difficulty unlocks and even used a TWEWY picture to place emphasis on TWEWY's style of customization.
You ignored that to make a strawman, either intentionally or out of ignorance and lack of reading comprehension.

So your argument is that, you need the devs to force you to not remove all the difficulty because you lack the ability to do so yourself?
Personally, I think 99.9% of games are so braindead easily, that they might as well let you "win automatically" as you put it. However
a). A game doesn't need to be difficult to be good (which is also to say that an easy game is not inherently bad)
b). You can use your free will to choose for yourself to do things that make games more challenging and/or not engage in tactics that make the game too easy
If you actually play video games regularly, I'm not sure why these sliders would present any sort of issue. I'll set them to what I personally will get the most enjoyment out of the game from and I would not have that option if developers forced their own retarded standard (which, especially with modern accessibility, is usually very low).
>>
>>748964432

>>
>>748971669
Dead Cells had traditional difficulty too with the boss cells. It was a great system since you didn't have to touch the sliders if you don't feel like it and the increased difficulty wasn't just scaling up damage and other numbers. Hope this castlevania has something like that too and not just the sliders. Only sliders = numbers difficulty

>>
>>748971363
I'm not making a strawman, I am stating that your examples of games where the hardest difficulty is unlocked AFTER the base game is very different because the base game experience will be more normalized between people discussing it. You gave some shit examples man, just own up to it.

Games like Sekiro, Nioh 2, and AC6 with a single difficulty are better than something with multiple difficulty options though imo. There are levers in game that you can use to make things easier for yourself but the game is designed around that single difficulty instead of lazily giving enemies more health and damage. It's very rare when a hard mode is actually meaningful and changes enemy patterns and gives them new moves.

It isn't about the choice, it's about the option itself. The option is part of the design. When play testers found something too hard, well they can just change the difficulty. See how this leads to terrible design? Hard modes in most modern games are abysmal because of this shit. Game balance in general is shit because no one sat down and fine tuned shit to be played on one difficulty from start to finish. And I'm not going to play an unfinished game like that.

Game balance as we know it comes from arcades when devs had to ensure you're not hogging the machine for hours on one credit but it also doesn't feel impossible to beat to make you keep coming back. The idea stuck around for home consoles but there's no actual incentive for devs to not just let you do whatever you want with the game once you paid for it

The inclusion of sliders are not inherently for or against that notion. If anything, as set out in >>748971628
most games are so inherently piss easy that sliders usually allow games to be harder than they would have been otherwise.
Games like DMC or Rabi-Ribi circumvent the issue entirely by having ranking systems that make it so beating a boss and SSS ranking a boss are entirely different levels of competency.

You're not criticizing sliders or adjustable difficulty at that point, just incompetent devs period. games being too easy is the problem....they are made for normalfags. the erosion of hard games w/ difficulty options to make them easier only pushes gaming more towards the dsps of the world. that's how u end up with wolverine. wolverine's issue was too much accessibility, anyone that doesn't realize accessibility toggles ruin games isn't paying enough attention to the industry. not a single person cares about doom the dark ages anon, because the game was bad and retarded and the giveaway that it was bad and retarded was the inclusion of the "idk make ur own difficulty lol" sliders. it's a copout by shit devs that can't balance themselves.

Sure but if we go back to
>>748971628
braindead easy games are not a modern novelty even with the increased focus on movie games and accessibility. In fact, I would argue that games have almost always been largely easy, the issue with modern games is the dumbing down/removal of mechanics that add DEPTH to a game, not that make them harder. Modern audiences do not like having to stop and think or engage in systems and want to be on a roller coaster. Those mechanics don't make a game hard however and wouldn't be changed by sliders/difficulty settings.
As to what you are arguing, no, most games from 2010s from 2000s even the 90s aren't hard at all either. When you get to arcade games and very early console games, sure, but otherwise, it's not all the recent movieslop is that much easier than most games from the 2000s, only that they lack mechanical depth.

It may not be the case for this specific game but it IS coming.

those exists on consoles and have for decades

I cant be mad at this its just basically cheat codes from the 90s, don't use cheats if you don't want

AYYYY LMAO.
Delusional consoletroon

if you use motor functioning and pattern recognition to learn the game and beat it... YOU DIDN'T BEAT THE GAME.
parietial lobe removal runs are the only valid way to play video games and engage in vidya game discussion on /v/

You are mistaking in-game features with an obvious issue that devs and/or fanboys will deflect because why work and think when you can just say "fuck off".
Yes, summons and easy modes make games easier, but devs actually implemented them. It wasn't like games just have features by default.
On the other hand, difficulty sliders just fuck with underlying math in some ways, or disable mechanics. Doing this is incredibly easy (at least as long as you don't code your game like retard).

Let me put it another way.
When making easy mode, dev sat down and thought "hm, how do I make players die less? Ah, I know, I'll have bird robot pick you up and out of bottomless pits, for example"
When introducing "can't die" checkmark, no thinking or work was done. I wouldn't be surprised if those features tend to lead to various bugs and exploits.
>>
They know runbacks are shit so they added shortcuts and an option to let you respawn at the boss, but they didn't just add a save point next to the boss?
>>
>>748976708
It's lazy game design. Either add Stakes of Marika or don't, it's not hard instead of having a cheat option that devalues your decision to run back because now you're just a dumb cuck that's wasting his time for nothing if you don't enable it.

>When making easy mode, dev sat down and thought "hm, how do I make players die less? Ah, I know, I'll have bird robot pick you up and out of bottomless pits, for example"
They usually quite literally slide sliders when making different difficulty settings.
>>

Anon has never heard or thought of what a 1x multiplier does.
>>
>>748970738
Weren't TWEWY's sliders and difficulty options directly tied to in-game mechanics with the expectation you'd be shifting up or down depending on what loot you were targeting? That's not the same thing.
>>
ITT: Exceedingly fragile masculinity.
>>
>>748964432
This stuff should unlock after beating the game once.
>>
>>748964432
Just finished the demo. It's okayish, I guess. No damage on contact was weird, and I hate the archers. Too early to say but her traversal is a little meh, I tried some cancels with the slides but that's not possible, only the back sway works and is faster and it's not doing much.
It's a shame she doesn't have a Whip weapon though, I don't like that the Whip is on a button but doesn't do damage aside from that special dash attack.
Or maybe we can unlock a whip weapon at some point?
Art style is very modern, way too modern... Colors all over the place for no reason... Rose's portrait is fugly.
Not impressed with the Tarot slop and the demons talking to Rose. Don't care. I put her in Japanese because I'm not risking a modern English cast.
No treasures? The level design is a little lazy... I was expecting things to buy, chests to open, and things to find, rewarding exploration, but so far, there's really nothing aside from a few statues...
Souls enemy re-spawn just isn't Castlevania, that's not good.

Nothing else, really.

Dark Souls is also braindead easy so if that's where our opinions differ, you can understand what I'm saying by re-evaluating by that standard
>>
>>748964432
Yay cheat codes are back and they're more granular than ever!
>>
Sliders are an admission that you have no faith in your game or your skills as a dev.
>>
>>748980694
dark souls is only easy in a modern lens, at the time it was seen as difficult because 1) contemporary games were often THAT easy at the time and it was a breath of fresh air in comparison
2) the performance was fucking dogshit.

3.2 maximum potions is the optimal experience thoughever.
>>
>>748970121

You're talking to retards who've been malding about no items modes in Smash Bros. and Mario Kart for twenty years, the idea of exercising the responsibility of curating their own game experience is as terrifying to them as the idea of physical exercise.
>>
>>748970826
Lowering your level to multiply the drop rate is a risk vs reward system, not a fucking "difficulty slider" you imbecile
>>
Well I just gave it a try. Seems better than Mirror of Fate at least. Though, I dont see this living up to the hype; I'll wait to see how bloatmaxxed itis before I commit. Unless Nintendo is tardwrangling then, westoid developers make their Metroidvanias 40+hr messes way too frequently. And at the end of the day, this is Castlevania in name only, just like the LoS games. It plays, sounds and looks completely different.

Stupid faggot. Beating a game is not a privilege, nor should it be an expectation.
>>
Part of the reason why people like hard games is so that they can brag about beating them. That's why these easy mode toggles will always fail and drive away players, there will be a bunch of comparisons to Silksong and this game will probably be seen as an overcorrection to Silksong's difficulty.
>>
>>748964432
Difficulty options that can be changed on the fly only work if its tied to some risk/reward mechanic or unlocks some reward upon completion. otherwise every time youre struggling youll find yourself negotiating whether you should slide the difficulty back to normal or easy
>>
>>748983061
then don't use it
it'd be one thing if any real amount of time was dedicated to any of them, but all of them are pretty simple to make
>>
>>748983142
You control the buttons you press
>>
>>748983152
People with any design sense dont include these options. Having these optiond at all is a window into their sensibilities. And let me be blunt, not a single one of the best games of all time even have difficulty options at all. At most they have a secret hard mode unlocked by beating the game at the difficulty it was designed for. The presence of this shit indicates mediocrity from the ground up.
