why
>>748965016The UN is retarded. That's why.
>>748965016Xbox is the only correct one, you obviously press A to jump. SQUARE TRIANGLE CIRCLE CROSS look cool until you try to speak or write them down
>newer releases of MGS1-3 made Circle the back buttonfucking gross
who caresif you can't adjust within 5 minutes of starting a game you are probably critically autistic
>>748965016Nips read right to left
MARUBATSU
>>748965016Notice how you have to colour over the ps buttons because they are literally random symbols with no meaning in shape and colour, and 2 of them even have nearly the same colour.Meanwhile A being green and B being red is textbook 101 automation design. It's so easy and natural that you know it from traffic lights.
>>748965016Circle is "correct" and x is "wrong". Thumb placement aside, all these are fine other than blue helmet playstation
>>748965220>symbolsPs buttons are numbered 1-4
>>748965220But Japan calls their "go" traffic light blue
xbox layout is correct because y axis is up&down and x axis is left&rightnintendo layout is retardedwtf is playstation egyptian hieroglyphics
>The UN is retarded. That's why.
>>748965016>nintendo>x on vertical>y on horizontalfucking WHY?
>>748965016Circle is JP "correct" mark as opposed to a check. X is their incorrect mark.In burger land idk X marks the spot? Pirate niggas?
>>748965016in japan circle is used for affirmative and cross for negativefor example correct answers on a test get a circle and incorrect answers a crossso for japanese its pretty natural that its accept, confirm, and two other shapes that are some other option
>>748965016If you have small hands your thumb naturally rests on the outer button, if you have large hands it rests on the lower button. Basically if you prefer it the way japan does it you're most likely a manlet
>>748965304青 is is used for both blue and greenif you want to distinguish them you use more specific colors 緑 and 水色
>>748965168It's B for Bounce tho
>>748965168>shapes sound cool until you try to write them down, which is unpossible>XYAB is much easier
>>748965016Xbox is the only correct one
>>748965016Sega went left to right, Nintendo went right to left. Japanese Sony took Nintendo's layout. Western SNES devs used the bottom button as accept and it transfered to PS.
>>748965781Yeah bro △ ○ × □ is so much easier
>>748965407>>748965434Yeah and I think this still would have been OK if they didn't choose Red as the circle colour... like if the circle was green or the blue and the X was red it would have been easy to continue
>>748965304>>748965554青 is always "blue" in modern Japanese. What happened is that they used to classify every color as a variation of either red, blue, white or black, with green being a shade of blue. This changed after WW2 and now green is always 緑, but some old words that used 青 for green are still around, and traffic lights were introduced before the war so they kept calling the go light "blue".
>>748965016I blame nipnogs for not putting circle and A on the bottom.
>>748967109Ahem this development is not exclusive to japanese but something that occurred all over the world at different times as civilisations evolved independently from each other. Here a great autism video on the subject.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HvTegOgaMo0
>>748965016I think it has to do with burgers preferring platformers over games with a lot of text like JRPGs, so they internalized bottom as the default button.
>>748965016Even as a Nintendo kid, Xbox's control scheme is objectively the correct one because B comes after A and X and Y are on the correct axis.
for me it's
>>748965436That explains a lot about me
>>748967194They did consider that at some point
Xbox adapted it from the SNES controller. They did some neat things that help psychologically with the way you ingrain buttons to your mindset for use and adjust to using them without thinking much easier. Skeuomorph. The buttons represent primary and secondaries... A/B X/Y They are also placed inverse to each other too. A/Y X/B. Also think of the X and Y axis pertaining to this.Look at the colors, it's the four psychological primary colors. Red, blue, green, yellow. This is great for design choice. Green for Go, Red for Stop, Blue for information or Mandatory/Required, Yellow for Caution/slow down. This doesn't always translate directly to actions in game but sometimes it can on all four counts even. Also the colors are considered the most with play in the west.
>>748965016Being an idort is suffering precisely because of the dumb A/B switching that Nintendo does.I'll admit confirming with the right button and canceling with the bottom one feels more natural, but you gotta jump with the bottom button.
>A for accept>B for back>X on the X axis>Y on the Y axisI don't care they were copying SEGA who ended up with it by accident, it's genius.
>>748965016to punish you for switching consoles dumbo
>>748967754
>>748968079Holding on to the colors with Xbox has been a subtly great decision, because even if your brains are mixed up between Xbox / Nintendo layouts, the colors are super intuitive and make recognizing buttons faster subconsciously.Realistically the differences between different systems are small and it’s mostly a matter of preference, but the fact that Xbox has held on to colors makes it inherently better than Nintendo’s system. And sure, I know than Nintendo had colored buttons on SNES before Xbox ever existed, and PS1 controller also came first, but afterwards Nintendo hasn’t bothered to hold on to them and PS for some reason has more washed out and less distinct colors.
>>748965628I use Y to yeet myself up. This is the default in BGS games.
>>748967754The only ergonomic and efficient left thumb multi-button layout to grace this beautiful world.
>>748965016>top row: easy to understand layout just how the japanese videogame gods intended>bottom row: bastardized american trashAlternatively, this: >>748967754Genius button layout that gave priority to the most commonly used button while keeping the other three around it for easy access. It's a shame that the singular Z button and the terrible D-Pad and C-Stick stopped the GC controller from reaching perfection.
>>748965202...not true bitch
>>748966394>if they didn't choose RedBut that's the correct color, all the Japanese quiz shows use red circles and blue x's.
>>748968169>I'll admit confirming with the right button and canceling with the bottom one feels more naturalIf you're an alien, sure. Humans typically have their finger over the bottom button when at rest, and since you press it way more often it makes sense for it to be there.
>>748971414I associate downwards with backing down and right with "this is the right option"
>>748965016why indeed
>>748965220because western behavioural scientists knew what they were making
>>748973485Based N64 anon.
>>748965016>there are "people" on this board who have to look at their controller to know what to press. There are "people" right here right now that have to buy stickers to put on the buttons to know what to press
I still don't know what the buttons are called on the Switch and the back button is annoying. I have to check every time the game tells me x or y or whatever.
>>748965016Why can't we all just agree?
>>748976036The problem isn't remembering the buttons on *your* controller, it's knowing and remembering which controller the game is assuming you're usingIf there's a button prompt to press X, then that could apply to at least 3 different diamond layouts, including X being blue when not monochrome
>>748965016I didn't know the UN made consoles. I wonder, can a permanent UNSC member veto a release?
>>748976119Wtf a based bikekek comic?
>>748976281Xxxxx
>>748967320Perhaps the first time I've seen someone plug a good video on /v/
>>748976470There’s never going to be a situation where you look at “X” and wonder if it’s for Playstation or any other Nintendo/Xbox-derived style, because if a game’s using Dualshock layouts then you’re going to immediately see the other symbols. Also, Steam naturally has options that allow you to switch X/Y and A/B positions per controller.Barring that, just fucking buy a “letters” controller and a “funny symbols” controller and you’ll always have your bases covered. Autists who demand having a universal controller for every possible game are just being retarded.
>>748965180Circle was the back button on the PS2 you fucking newfaggot scum holy shit
>>748965016the Japanese have reverse thumbs, which is why every Nintendo platformer still uses A for jumping. It's to cause physical pain to foreigners
>>748965330Why would you use AI slop, surely if America is so retarded you would have real examples.
>>748965016i had to relearn circle and cross because of dumb americans
>>748976576he's actually funny every now and then
>>748976119No sus?
>>748965016What's the problem?
