These sophisticated barbarian beast peoples of the Wrothgarian and Dragontail Mountains are noted for their unshakeable courage in war and their unflinching endurance of hardships. Orc warriors in heavy armor are among the finest front-line troops in the Empire. Most Imperial citizens regard Orc society as rough and cruel, but there is much to admire in their fierce tribal loyalties and generous equality of rank and respect among the sexes.

>>
>>748971846
They are. In TES magic is extremely accessible, literally anyone can go down to the Mage's Guild and buy training in a spell, or a local witch, or go to the store and buy a magic scroll. It's relatively expensive and Orcs aren't known to be particularly talented at it, but it's something they can do.
>>

Redguards are technically aliens

Why do they mine ebony through carts when mark/recall exists?
>>
>>748972156
It's illegal to teleport restricted goods.
>>
>>748972156
Because training a bunch of retarded dirt-farmers in Mark/Recall isn't worth the time and expense, they'd probably use it to steal the goods, and carts of ebony probably don't count ass being on your person to go with you using magic.
>>
>>748972156
Mages don't want to waste their talents on mining shit and the state isn't willing to commission enchanters for mark/recall amulets
>>
>>748971846
TES Orcs' main gimmick is that they're great metallurgists and craftsmen. They're effectively the setting's actual dwarf equivalent since the Dwemer play a very different role from the usual beard manlet
>>
>>748971960
That's a misconception. All the Redguard creation myth does is describe the same things every other version of the monomyth does, that is, Lorkhan creating Nirn, plus the fact that the kalpa cycle exists and that there's an afterlife that supposedly allows spirits to survive the end of the world, which is also exactly what the Nords believe in, for one. Yokuda isn't a previous kalpa, but a physical continent whose ruins can still be visited, and the Redguards are just wandering ehlnofey who eventually decided Lorkhan is bad

Also, even if the fanon interpretation of the Redguard creation myth was real they still wouldn't really be aliens since previous kalpas are just different versions of the same world
>>
>>748973535
Previous Kalpas can be very alien though, look at Lyg. Time rewinds to Convention, but the actual events of the Dawn and Merethic Era that set the stage for the familiar setting can happen completely differently, and this includes the behavior of the Aedra. Since you mentioned Nords, Shor Son of Shor makes it obvious that the Nords know that even their beloved gods can change role or allegiance between Kalpas. Magnus is particularly interesting in that context, they don't worship him because his role in the Dawn war (according to them) was so secret/stealthy that determining his actual allegiance in it is impossible.

Half of the Third Empire's founding myth is how Tiber was a cool badass Nord, the Second Empire's Reman's father was supposedly a Nord, and the First Empire's Alessia bent her entire culture and religion around trying to appease and ally with the Nord's empire (who controlled nearly half of what would become Cyrodiil at that time.)

1. Spells sold by merchants are cheaper to cast as a rule. Spellmaking should happen with useless sold spells like "Frenzy for 20 seconds" which you can obviously make better.
2. Apprentice Birthsign unless you are doing fancy shit with Atronach.
3. Altmer or Breton but don't let that stop you from choosing your favorite race (some have late game advantages).
5. Speed is your best defense unless you are doing battlemage stuff.
5. Destruction: Fire/Frost covers mostly anything and has cheap bought spells even for ranged damage
6. Mysticism has absorb health which can be neat along with teleport effects
7. Alteration has Levitate, Open, Waterwalking/breathing. You can make a 1pt Levitate spell to actually slow foes.
8. Restoration is nice but not super needed. Depends on your playstyle.
9. Illusion has great effects like Frenzy, Sanctuary and Invisibility. May or may not be used much.
10. Enchanting is better than all schools of magic. You might want to limit it if you don't want your build feeling pointless.
11. Alchemy and potions of Restore Magicka are not a must, especially without Atronach.
12. Forbidden knowledge: Restore Magicka custom spell.
Combine Fortify Intelligence + Magicka in a smart way

Part of is the general audience chasing mentality, but a lot of it is just priorities. As mentioned above, Bethesda has time constraints, budget, and tech limitations to take into account, so they quite simply don't do the things they don't have the time for or aren't 100% necessary. That's why Oblivion did not have anything related to politics nor the Colovia-Nibenay divide, because their focus was on the Daedra shit

On a side note, ESO kinda had these things, which are presumably meant to be the shaggy centipede herdbeasts, but they felt the need to make them look like tiger-wolf-boar creatures, i would assume because Orcs are commonly portrayed in association with tigers/wolves/boars in other fantasy media and that game kinda does feel like it's actively trying to rip off every other setting in existence half the time lol

>>
>>748979198

>>

You mean bretons. Tiber Septim was not a nord
>>
>>748979443
Tiber Septim was two dudes in a trenchcoat and neither of them were Nord
Talos on the other hand...
>>
>>748979443
Tiber Septim wouldn't have had his early successes without Wulfharth empowering him. Also the point is how necessary it was for the Third Empire's genesis for them to get the Nords behind them, not just the power from Wulfharth but all the propaganda about being Ysmir.
>>
>>748979567
Three dudes and one was a Nord, though he fucked off midway through (because Tiber didn't want to genocide the Dunmer.)
>>
>>748975868
Except in Daggerfall and Battlespire where it's the literal highest tier armor, only behind Daedric.
>>
>>748976356
why did sloplivion feature goblins but omit durzogs
>>
>>748979339
No, in Morrowind it's said that the High Elves originally invented glass armor but the glass armor you actually see in-game is made by Dunmer
>>
>>748968245
Because Nords are slightly taller so they get an extra 5 points.
>>
Can Orcs look pretty in Elder Scrolls? I'm not talking with mods, I'm talking lore wise.
>>
>>748981259
probably not. they're never described as beautiful.nthough there is the gray prince quest in oblivion where an imperial noble falls in love with his orc maid.
>>
>>748981259
Maybe. Though probably not often, them being ugly to the point everybody hates them is unironically a pretty major part of their lore, and it's even reflected in Morrowind where they (particularly the females) have a lower personality stat than everybody else
>>
>>748977521
>Apprentice Birthsign unless you are doing fancy shit with Atronach
>don't let that stop you from choosing your favorite race
King advice. I would have said the same thing. Apprentice and Atronach make spellcasting instantly viable on any character. Apprentice is an especially noob-friendly birthsign. People don't need to compromise on playing the race they want to play.
>>
>>748976392
Even if you're playing a wizard, you still need to pick weapon and armor skills. This is not negotiable, offensive spells absolutely cannot carry you through the entire game. Magic is primarily for utility and QoL, and that's why Alteration is the best magic school in the game.
>>
>>748983320
You don't need armor if you use marksman. Dread or dire arrows with bound longbow is super powerful and has very good maneuverability unlike spells. If you use sneak too you one shot everything. Sneak plus bows was always overpowered in all elder scrolls games

Why work as an ebony courier when you can just use magic as a means to make a living? It's like this.
>Know no magic, guess I'm working doing something else... Maybe shipping ebony, ebony is expensive. I'll sign up for an apprenticeship with a mage and fund it with my day job
>Know a small amount of magic, well at least I can put magic locks on my chests of ebony and make a few septims on the side with some basic spells
>Know a good amount of magic, your ebony shipping company is doing ok and if you need an emergency influx of coin you can take a boat to the mines then Recall a shipment back, but most of your time is spent running the company and maintaining your various spells so the opportunity cost of doing this isn't 0
>Know a lot of magic- At this point you can make quick trips to the mines yourself without much effort thanks to a quick and easy combo of Jump 100 pts for 1 sec belt and constant effect Slowfall 1 pt amulet and return with a Recall spell, but it's usually a more effective use of your resources to just pay someone, perhaps an apprentice just learning to magically lock chests, to deal with it
>Be GODLY MASTER WIZARD
>Need some Ebony for conjuring the newest version of "clone waifu with gigantic titties" spell
>Going to the mines? Running a business? What are you, a peasant?
>Conjure a Dremora Lord, use your 100000 STR from alchemy and punch him into dust in two hits, grab his Daedric Claymore before he vanishes*, and melt it down with a quick fire spell to get some extremely high quality Ebony
And that's how magic self segregates itself from the workforce.
*This actually works, at least it did back on the Xbox version.

>>
>>748986097
No, they either left on their own accord during the incident that led to their creation or the Altmer got self-conscious about enslaving them and let them go free a while later
>>
>>748986219
The Empire at the time despised Orcs and didn't associate with them, and even if that wasn't the case the Empire never actually conquered the Summerset Isles in the traditional way, they set a big time warping robot after the Altmer instead.
>>
>>748986097
>>748986219
Orsimer were originally Altmer, just like Dunmer. Specifically, both of them were Altmer followers of the Aedra Trinimac specifically, the enforcer of Auri-El/Akatosh who actually did the murder on Lorkhan. You can think of it like a highly-respected Altmer warrior-cult. So one day, the Daedra Boethiah, who is a bit of a devotee to Lorkahn, starts whispering to a member of this cult named Veloth. Boethiah tells Veloth that Trinimac is wrong-headed and a liar, and about the Walking Ways, about a promised land to the east, and introduces him to the other Daedra Mephala and Azura who are going to help and teach him the right way of achieving the Psijiic Endeavor (one of the Walking Ways, summarized as apotheosis through struggle.) Veloth preaches the Daedra's words, and gathers a group of followers to himself throughout Trinimac's cult, and then flees the Summerset Isles. They are pursued by Trinimac and the rest of his cult, ostensibly to punish the heretic Veloth and return the others to the flock. They catch up, and Boethiah proceeds to trick Trinimac and eat him. This is both metaphorical and literal, she eats him and absorbs his properties and identity. She preaches to the whole group in Trinimac's voice about his lies and the rightness of Boethiah's teachings, and then takes a big fat shit right there on the ground. This shit is both literal and metaphorical too, as it represents the cast-off lies and negative features of Trinimac while Boethiah keeps the rest. So everyone present, the loyal followers of Trinimac and the heretic followers of Veloth, kneel down and rub the holy feces all over themselves. To the followers of Veloth, nothing outside changes, but from them on they identify as Altmer no longer, and call themselves Chimer, 'the changed ones.' The despairing followers of Trinimac mutate into the foul and ugly Orsimer, and the feces itself becomes the Daedra Malacath, prince of betrayal and the scorned.
>>
>>748985871
Not really since he uses, you know, umbra.
>>
>>748986097
>>748986219
>>748987375
The Chimer then leave to continue following Veloth to their promised land, the eventual Morrowind. Meanwhile, the Orsimer split into two groups. One continues the pursuit of the Dunmer, and become the Orcs who harass them in Morrowind in later parts of their history. The other group returns to the Summerset Isles in shame and dishonor. There, the Altmer strip them of their Altmeri status, and enslave them as a lesser race. This enslavement continues for an indefinite period of time, until eventually the Altmer themselves ban slavery and free all of their slaves, exiling them from Summerset in the process. Orcs proceed to, from here, spread all throughout Tamriel, though a particular group allies with other freed slave-races under the Altmer (the so-called goblin-kin, Orcs, Goblins, Ogres, Gremlins etc.) and settle in the Wrothgarian Mountains of High Rock. This group would found Orisinium, a large fortified town, and despite its eventual and repeated destruction, this would become the nucleus of 'mainstream' Orc culture you see in the games. Things continue this way throughout most of history, with Orcs being treated like monsters and not people, until eventually the king of the most recent Orisinium, Gortwog, convinces the protagonist of Daggerfall to give him the control device for the Numidium (among several others, Warp in the West you know this probably) and he uses it to conquer a huge swath of territory and petitions the Empire to recognize it as a Province and the Orcs as people instead of monsters. The Empire is debating provincial status but has accepted the Orisimer, very clearly entrenched now, as people, and the Orsimer of Orisinium and those outside it who agree with Gortwog's goals proceed to try and integrate themselves into the Empire. One of the most popular of those ways is by serving in the legions and earning respect that way. This is the situation as it stands in Morrowind.

>>
>>748984708

>>
>>748987749
This is a Morrowind thread. Skyrim is full of retcons to the lore as it was at the time of Morrowind, which itself retcons Daggerfall (Imperials didn't exist back then and neither did Talos or the background story of Tiber, in there he was just a Breton too.) So anything Skyrim says is going to be irrelevant to what we're talking about with Morrowind.
>>
>>748987875
Well just as long as you realize the heresy has been invalidated as a legit source of lore.

That is why the whole "Talos is three people" thing isn't catching on.

I would suggest you give Tamriel Reimagined a shot but l get the feeling you are way ahead of me on that one.

Okay sure, Guars are mammalian in the sense that they give live birth, produce milk, and have a mammalian social structure and behavior that allows them to be domesticated. I don't care what TR says that mod isn't canon, Guar have titties. They're reptilian in that they have scaled skin, a dinosaur-esque bodyplan, that's it. I doubt they're cold blooded, they move and eat too much for that to make sense.

No one -- not the oldest Dark Elf of Mount Dagoth-Ur or the Ancient Sage of Solitude himself -- can recall a time when the Orc did not ravage our fair Tamriel. Whatever foul and pestilent Daedra of Oblivion conjured them up could scarcely have created a more constant threat to the well-being of the civilized races of Tamriel than the obnoxious Orc.

Orcs are thankfully easy to recognize from other humanoids by their size -- commonly forty pertans in height and fifteen thousand angaids in weight -- their brutal pig-like features, and their stench. They are consistently belligerent, morally grotesque, intellectually moronic, and unclean. By all rights, the civilized races of Tamriel should have been able to purge the land of their blight eras ago, but their ferocity, animal cunning, and curious tribal loyalty have made them inevitable as leeches in a stagnant pool.

Are you saying the ghost couldn't tell the difference between Hjalti and Wulfhearth when he was alive?

That stretches credulity.

Follow the logic .
The person that shouted in the ghosts time was dragonborn.
The ghost sees the player as the person that shouted during his time.
The ghost saw Hjalti shout during his life.

Unless your contention is the ghost could not tell the difference between Hjalti and Wulf your argument is retarded.
If that is your contention it is still retarded but slightly more plausible.

Meridia is a former Magne-Ge, or an et'ada that took part in creating Mundus but left it at Convention. There is no meaningful difference in the nature of et'ada of different factions except that MOST Daedra are more Padomaic (chaotic) and MOST Aedra are more Anuic (static.) Daedra come across as mean because of how they perceive mortals, either they're only involved in Mundus because they're bored and see mortals as funny toys, or else they have purposes/goals for mortals and don't see their deaths as cosmically meaningful because death just moves you through the dreamsleeve to be reincarnated. Meridia is actually quite the spoiled bitch and has her psycho triggers, she's just Anuic and a former Magne-Ge so she wants to be seen as all light and radiant and so has good PR.

He has been stated outright to not be Magnus.

>Ruptga was so big that he was able to place the stars in the sky so that weaker spirits might find their way easier.
>But grim Ruptga would not, and he told the spirits that they must learn new ways to follow the stars to the Far Shores now. If they could not, then they must live on through their children, which was not the same as before.
>Sep, however, needed more punishment, and so Tall Papa squashed the Snake with a big stick. The hunger fell out of Sep's dead mouth and was the only thing left of the Second Serpent.
Satakal the Worldskin

>Of all the et'Ada who wandered Nirn, Trinimac was the strongest. He, for a very long time, fooled the Aldmeri into thinking that tears were the best response to the Sundering
Changed Ones

>Finally Trinimac, Auriel's greatest knight, knocked Lorkhan down in front of his army and reached in with more than hands to take his Heart. He was undone.
>But when Trinimac and Auriel tried to destroy the Heart of Lorkhan it laughed at them.
The Heart of the World

>Trinimac: Strong god of the early Aldmer, in some places more popular than Auri-El. He was a warrior spirit of the original Elven tribes that led armies against the Men.
>He vanishes from the mythic stage after this, to return as the dread Malacath
Varieties of Faith

Ruptga and Trinimac are both clearly Anuic aligned ideological champions and the strongest of all the gods. Both are responsible for killing Lorkhan but not being able to destroy his heart. And both vanish from Mundus albeit for different understood reasons. Ruptga is a human variation of Trinimac as seen by the uniquely Anuic Yokudan humans.

I consider the imperials (that fight) more into the heavy plate tank style than orcs, with shield too, gotta protect the quality mercandise, but they're practical, they'll shoot or cast or fight, whichever gets them back to sitting in an office counting coins the soonest and with the fewest wounds. Orcs just want to look scary and wreak havoc for as long as possible before they get put down, and more plates helps with that. They'd tank shots just for the intimidation factor more than being too much of a tard to care, although they want to die before getting old anyway so they don't care that much either.

I suppose what I'm saying is Imperial warriors give off the impression of more steady and methodical heavy tank fighting, with the focus on keeping health at 100%, while orcs are more strapping enough metal onto it to help facilitate going apeshit for as long as possible before it eventually succumbs or the enemy are gone.
So, Imperials: immovable object, Orcs: unstoppable force.

Just go High Elf with the sign of the atronach. Yes it's a PITA having no magicka regen. But consider:
-You can instantly regen magicka at any imperial altar
-Most spells cost a pitiful amount, and you'll start the game with like 200 magicka
-Combat is much more scarce in Morrowind than in most RPGs. A typical dungeon will have 5-6 enemies, even the starting spells will kill them very fast. You have way more magicka than you need usually.
On the downside, you will have to permanently have magicka potions on your hotbar. And you'll be hearing the magical potion chug sound effect throughout your playthrough. But it's a really fun build, especially once you reach the late stages of the game and start creating custom spells. I would highly recommend it. Bonus points if you go House Telvanni for the roleplay.

Lorewise its still one of the best possible mass manufactured armors. Of course it’s easy to forget is as the player character, who’s an exceptional era-changing individual (and Oblivion’s level scaling silliness also doesn’t help), but most of the best armors in the games are supposed to be super rare Gucci stuff that you’d never have enough to outfit an entire army with.

Morrowind actually did that really well, with glass and ebony being limited to extremely wealthy and powerful individuals such as great house leaders, guild elite etc. and daedric is rare enough that even most of people who live an adventuring lifestyle will never encounter it, and even less dream of owning even one piece of it.

While implementing the 1h spears I've found that besides walkleft (I think) all the beast race movement animations cause the character to tilt forward, the 1h running and walking sideways animations cause the character to tilt slightly in the opposite directions, the 1h chop animation clips noticeably at attack max, the 1h chop large follow (I think) is a frame shorter than the medium and small ones. and I also know there are problems with the polearm animations.
If however, you want to make nonjanky animations from scratch, then there are several difficult and insurmountable hurdles. The biggest immediate problem is the inconsistent and often buggy rigging in clothes and armor as well as the pauldron designs themselves, unless you settle for a tiny range of motion there will always be errors, and that would stand out a lot more with cleaner animations than Morrowind has. The attack hold system will also produce clipping unless you take the exact same path from max attack to min hit that you took from min attack to max attack, this really limits your attack design, but I suppose this is solvable with clever lua scripting. The systems for mixing animations together (like running while attacking) also leave a lot to be desired, the bone groups are very restrictive, and there isn't any (sane) way to implement physics or add dynamicism. I really hope OpenMW adds a way to query and modify individual bone orientation via lua soon, that would be a game changer.

I understand and share your enthusiasm, but does the AI handle it well?

Oh wait, won't this mean we can have water in TR at multiple elevations?

I see. That was a really nice explanation of the situation honestly. I do hope that OpenMW allows for modders to be able to animate things with more freedom some day.

The ones that are in the game right now? Those are Cathay-Raht. PTR goes with quadrupedal pahmar.

Them being quadruped was the view before ESO, which retconned it for some inane reason. Fetish maybe?

No, in fact killing them at all is illegal since they produce a nectar that Indoril lords use to commune with their ancestors or some shit
>>
Do yall have a favorite place to claim as your "home" (not counting home mods) in TR? I'm considering killing K'vatra to take Udannu as The Boss but I like the guy so I dont really want to do that. No where else has felt like a fitting base

I killed Tynachos, and since there's nobody upstair I just took over his room,

I just use Magical Mainland Homes and buy a home that fits my current playthrough.
In my last Indoril run I bought the manor in Akamora (underrated city imo).
My last Redoran run I was larping as a member of the Waters March
I'll get around to doing a Hlaajew run when Wealth Beyond Measure releases and I haven't done a Telvanni run in like 15 years

Soanix manor in OE is a good one. It only has one quest associated with it (for the thieves guild). You can delete all its NPC's after the quest without issue. Hasi manor in Anvil is also good since the owner is at Goldstone, and the rest of the NPC's are mostly guards that you can delete if you want

i always use the mansion in balmora with the dead guy that has infinite storage. i'm never really into enjoying a home and making it my own, but that place is perfect for my hoarding addiction to dump everything i gathered once in a while.
