I've come to the conclusion that I need fantasy game graphics to be a little bit shit for me to properly immerse myself in the game.I don't know the exact mechanics behind this phenomenon but I do know that I have basically never felt properly immersed into a fantasy game with HD graphics, the shitty looking ones kind of inherently feel more ancient and mysterious which fits the genre better.
ok and?
>handcrafted pixel art is kinda shitkys
>>748970141Sacred is definitely not pixel art
>>748970030but these graphics are good?
>>748970030I tried replaying Sacred 1 lately, but holy fuck the field of view is terrible.Let me zoom out for fucks sake. How did I play this back in the day?????
>>748970371The visuals are good, the graphics are a bit rough>low res>repetitive textures>lots of noise >clashing styles>light doesn't make sense But overall it comes together nicely, if you recreated it with super HD models and realistic engine light that you could zoom into and inspect it'd lose its charm
>>748970360The backgrounds are very nice.
sacred's open world is what I would have loved D4 to have been
>>748970030Sacred has always felt a bit too shit for my taste.
>>748970030Cool game>>748971606Cool gameI will play sacred this weekend, after beating game with witch i will play dungeon siege next thanks guys
>>748970030You can always play a modern one and set the graphics settings to lowest
>>748970961SOVL
>>748971827This would be a good character and setting for armpit kino where your character being out in the wilderness grows hair
>>748970030low fidelity graphics let's your brain quickly scan the scene and fill in the details yourselfthe human brain is amazingly good at filling in details so you feel immersed in the worldhigh fidelity game overloads your brain with clutter and meaningless detailsthe human brain is also amazing at filtering background details, but not when it's cramped into a 27-32" screen infront of your face and it's scrolling past way to fastyour brain never gets to fill in the details because it never gets the time to
>>748970030It depends. I'm going to play the shit out of the upcoming Lord Of The Rings game made by Warhorse.
This is why WoWfags are obsessed with vanilla
>>748970961Game? I see mandalore in the corner, I can only guess the King arthur RTS game? It's posted here >>748971501 but I'm not sure its the same game.
>>748971827which game?
>>748973591She looks more threatening than the vampiress.
>>748972320Just as wise Laozi once said
>>748970030You're required to use your imagination it's why the game feels more immersive than modern games which you're just staring at because you don't need to fill in any blanks.
>>748975540Ascension to the Throne: Valkyrie
>>748976231ty
>>748974984Legion: The Legend of Excalibur
>>748970030I understand what you mean. For me, when I have graphical limitations, I have more fun than if I can run the game maxed out. So now I play a lot of games in windowed mode, and I bring the graphics down to a minimum and make it somewhat pixelated.
>>748970554is that Sacred Gold? The screenshots on gog look lower res
>>748973004Kino
>>748972475as an unironic wowfag and crazy person this is correctvanilla is the sweet spot not too ugly and shapeless like everquest but not muh graffix blob lagfest like modern wow is it's timeless and i'll keep playing it (on private servers) forever
>>748970030That's because only isometric 3d graphics/pixelart gets shadows right. Modern 3D engines aren't able to have a proper light and shadow system. Raytracing is the first time in their history that offers at least the potential to get it right eventually. That is why you aren't immersed. You have only ever played completely washed out 3D games.
>>748970030yeah agreed
>>748970030Games like Sacred 1, Witcher 1, Nox or Baldurs Gate 1 are peak and cozy fantasy games.
at first I picked the Wizard, because I wanted cool magic, but then I found out that the Elves got way cooler magic and laser swords
>>748970030Your rationale isn't accurate, but it's an accurate observation. This is why modern RTS are also shit. They haven't got modern simplicity right yet, so it just looks bad to look at and play.
>>748970386Mouse wheel scrolling works
>>748970030I enjoyed the starting area, it's a shame that after you leave it it's essentially just endless empty space with infinite goblin hordes from now on.
>>748979583THAT'S FUCKING SPELLFORCE! FUCK YEAH!
>>748981436>Schniepel>Hau kaputt kaputt kaputt>Schlagt ihm den Kopf ab ich brauche einen neuen Aschenbecher Those goblin lines man
>>748981779>Schniepelhehe
>>748980745I gave Tempest Rising a try and it feels like a love letter to the old Westwood games but the game itself looks very murky and I can almost never tell what I'm looking at or controlling compared to Red Alert or Tiberian Dawn.>but those games are uglyYeah by modern standards but they look perfectly fine to me and I never waste time identifying units, landscape or any other objects. Same with Doom, the old games are crisp the new games are too pretty. My boomer opinion is that most games don't need very pretty or realistic graphics to tell a story or offer good gameplay. Simulators sure but RTS needs fast and accurate info to make the right decisions.
For me it's like this for every genre tbdesu, I really just do not care about photorealism at all, I don't think it looks like shit but nothing pops out anymore the way it used to.
>>748982169>I don't think it looks like shit but nothing pops out anymore the way it used to.exactly
>>748971606same, i really wanted to like it but i cant with that combat, dungeon siege though, its good
>>748970141>>748970371I think he means low fidelity
>>748982169I prefer older graphics in every genre, but I can immerse myself in GTAV for example because the generic modern presentation matches the modern theme, whereas something like BG3 just feels fake
Older fantasy art had a grittiness and fantasticness to it, modern art is cartoonish and bland.I don't think it's about the graphics fidelity, you could make a game with modern technology that also invokes that feeling.
