Could it have been saved?
Concord was always doomed, but Highguard honestly felt sabotaged by the VGA reveal.

>a game being promoted in the largest game event of the year in a sabotage

that line of thought will never not be funny to me. yes, the game would be a smashing success without any marketing at all, certainly
>>
this genre is doomed period.
>>
>>748970472
They needed to dripfeed hype for this game gradually leading up to its release, making it the final big ticket item/reveal for that year’s game awards or whatever that was made everyone hate it because we were expecting/hoping for something crazy and cool to be revealed, not this slop.
It was also a shitty AI looking game anyway with huge sprawling maps and only 3v3 and nothing to do.
>>
Highguard was a great game and the VGA had nothing to do with it. The execs at wildlight were simply too stupid to let it grow. They were definitely twitter users who had no idea how to lead a game. Should’ve been nurtured like Marathon.

I miss it.
>>

thats the surface level answer. It lacks context.
Yes, it was the big finale reveal at the year's big event.
Out of the blue. Nobody heard of this. People were expecting other things, so this game started with the precedent of stepping on the toes of every other legacy or anticipated reveal at the event, and every reveal people were hoping for from that event. The blatant concord-esqe art direction only further drove the industry-plant shoehorned narrative.

the thing is that if the game wasn't shit people wouldn't have been mad at it. it just made it very clear the game was going to be a failure
>>
>>748971003
It wasn't shit tho. Just didn't have enough, well, everything to justify people sticking around.
>>
>>748970472
Highguard had far, far better character designs than Concord but it had real fundamental design problems that hurt the game experience. Maybe a low key launch and months of tinkering could have got it there, but I’m not convinced.
>>
>>748970728
Nah, I don't think it was as bad as people said it was, but the game was just mediocre in a sea of live service games. I only really liked the flag tug-of-war phase of the game personally

I know a streamer that's been paid to shill this game and is still coping about and saying it was all Geoff's fault and people hating it without even trying it, despite having only played the game on stream a single day, kek. As a ((influencer)), shouldn't you be encouraging people to try it?
>>
>>748971540
>try it
The game’s fucking gone now it doesn’t exist.
>>
>>748971917
I meant when it wasn't dead obviously
>>
>>748970472
Saving it would have been possible but the steps required to make that happen would have been at odds with the developers vision which means no it was fucked all along
>>
>>748970472
Concord had 10x more soul than Homoguard.
>>
>>748970472
Of course not.
Not only it was a mix of things shoddidly combined into one thing, not only the lore and characters lacked any actual substance, it was also part of a genre people have enough of.
>>
>>748970896
Irrelevant. The game would've died no matter what spot in the TGA reveal lineup it was at. If it was the 3rd game showcased it would've been forgotten about and nobody would give a shit. It would release with probably less than 10% of the players who tried it at launch and would have died even faster than it did (which is already record timing for player fall-off). The fact that it was such a high profile reveal is the only reason anybody even knew it existed and bothered to try it the day it came out.

I played it for like 40 hours and I gotta say the biggest issue with the game was the spawn system. 5v5 sort of fixed this, but ruined the capture the flag phase (which everyone agreed was easier and more engaging than the raid phase) so you were trading off more teamwork in raids for a completely butchered loot and shield breaker race which 99% of the time ended in overtime instead of planting.
The spawn system was already perfected by TF2. Players on the same team should have reduced spawn times based on how many members of your team are dead so that you can spawn in waves. Because of the TTK and long ranged meta in this game, if you arent focus firing with teammates or raiding a point together, you just go into a conveyor belt of hopeless 1v3s and thern spend about half a minute dead. The revive system also makes those hero plays pointless because if even one enemy survives, they can just revive their team mate (which is what made mara so popular because she could just break revive orbs from behind walls) so you dont have a choice but to play with your team and go for team wipes. Sadly if you die in staggered periods, your teammates will just run off and die before you respawn. This isnt even mentioning how a smart enemy raid team could spawn block 4 of your 5 spawn points and then just focus fire you as soon as you respawn in the last viable location. The static respawn times were the biggest nail in the coffin for this game.

It was worth it just for the entertainment I got at work listening to the roach king dunk on it.

No.

Have you ever heard of Fragpunk? How about Blood Strike? How about Generation Zero? How about Abyssus? How about Incursion: Red River? I could go on. If it hadn't been featured at the dorito pope's show, nobody would have known that this game even existed.
Where you're right is that it was a public humiliation instead of a private failure.

maybe if it released 10 years earlier. modern games are all doomed unless they have a soiboy cult backing them.

There wasn't much to save.

No, there were some planned female character designs depicting with tits. Meanwhile, actual female character in highguard, picrel.
They actively concoding the game, it's not just generic shootan.

The hate train ruined it's player retention numbers. If it had released as intended less people would of played it but a smaller percentage would of bounced. As it was people were trying it just to hate on it. Retarded as it is this was a factor in it's death.
>>
>>748970472
It was dead to me since the first VGA trailer.
>name was just a synonym of overwatch
>gameplay looked like overwatch
>one of the clips they somehow thought was okay to feature on the game's first ever preview was of a big savage looking guy raging out and then pulling out a dinky revolver
>>
>>748970728
It was pretty fun and could see it working although had some minor details, but let's be honest, it was the characters
They looked like mutts and shit and people just don't like that. It never had a chance
>>
>>748970472
Picked it up after 5v5 was added and exclusively played that. It was a lot of fun but it was kinda obvious that the game just wasn't really enough to survive. In a perfect scenario the game was made by a small established studio not held up by chinese money and cost like 20 dollars then might have lived long enough for an actual following. Then again if any of that happened I probably would have never played it so IDK.
also all the characters and dialogue were bland and annoying and that would have killed it anyway
>>748972841
It was very hard to stop a raid if your team got staggered. The fucked respawn time was definitely something that could have been fixed if the game lived longer.
>>
>>748970472
It might have been good if it followed its original vision instead of doing whatever the hell they did.
