I specifically associate this incredibly detailed, but flat-feeling pixel background art with european games from the early 90s.

Apartments & Accountants segment from 2 was hysteric. It's on youtube btw.

why isn't there more of it?

The creatures ruling Earth after the last world war genuily wish to turn everything into be biggest, nastiest pile of shit and suffering ever.

old dos games, like goblins, simon the sorcerer, full throttle, monkey island, kings quest, space quest. so many fucking sierra games, some obscure games i'll never get the chance to play again or finish like "callahans crosstime salloon". fucking nostalgia is hitting real hard right now

Post-1990s, you gotta look for content designed specifically for preschoolers and women, otherwise you just mod the whimsy into an Elder Scrolls game instead

Simon 3D needs a recomp or a remaster or something. The game itself is alright but most people won't play it until they reach the city which isn't as ugly as the huge empty space of the first chapter.

pure kino. it's a trip down the memory lane from a bygone era, you'll never get to experience this
>>
>>748979162
>3D is new-ish
>no one on the team has any experience
>everyone just fucking happy the thing work at all
>most of them are still stuck on the 3D from old arcade cabinets or fake-ish 3D like Doom so objectively their shit is not that bad, right?
>internet with news on every concurrent games and stackoverflow doesn't actually exist yet, so you are on your own to know what's expected and how the fuck to do it
It's not an accident that a lot of series got the famed "rough transition to 3D".

It had 2 full years of sitting in storage due to publishing issues.
It's a 1996 2D game converted mid-project to 3D and finished in 2000.
>>
>>748979536
You realize anyone can still play these games? You're aware that these older games were not live-service, right? Why do you retards act like a game disappears permanently after it's released?

Like someone can say "Mega Man 1 was my childhood" and you retards will instantly think "Based boomer" or something. You realize Mega Man 1 still exists, right? Never once has Mega Man 1 stopped existing in the 30 years since it came out. Like small children can still play Mega Man 1 today. The fuck is is wrong with you retards?

you may still play the game(s) but you'll never get to experience what me and others have experienced 30 years ago, because for """you""" (or some other anon) this aesthetic is "dogshit", you'd still experience it as "dogshit" today, nothing can change the fact the graphics and gameplay aesthetically peaked 30 something years ago. it was kino back in the day IF you had experienced those games when they first came out, if this makes better sense to you, though i don't expect you to understand.
>>
>>748977563
holy shit I can immediately hear those retarded noises
the trilogy was truly kino
>>
>>748983048
aesthetically peaked for this specific kind of dos era games, not every other game released. just to clarify
>>
The Amiga ran on consumer TV's via composite/rgb or via a Commodore monitor via RGB.
Either way it ran on 15khz screens at approximately 288p. With scanlines and a slight amount of blur (in RGB) or a lot of blur (in composite).
Either way, It looked amazing on those screens.

OP's pic was taken from an emulator or something, and looks like complete garbage. Pixel art looks awful when it's raw like that.

I like how distant objects appear blurry, as if there were a DOF filter on the image, but in reality it's all done pixel by pixel, unlike the effects in modern 2D video games.

You should unironically play genshin. It’s the only modern game I can think of that puts in a genuine effort at making a pure, uncompromised whimsical fantasy world to lose yourself in. In fact, most critics bitch about how it’s “too vanilla” and not trying to be subversive or mean-spirited or whatever other cancer modern fantasy is bogged down by as a genre. It’s sad as fuck that soulless CCP funded gachaslop is literally the best modern gaming has to offer but unfortunately this is the reality we have found ourselves in.

All I can say is don’t dismiss it until you try it. It’s literally a gem hidden in plain sight.
