Canon: An earnest, but impetuous child prodigy who gets a harsh reality check and undergoes a necessary character arc where he learns humility.Fanon: HaHa! WhAT A jObBeR aNd A fRAuD! Where did media literacy go wrong?
>>748985553It's not an issue of media literacy. Memes sproud from a combination of factors. The main issue is that he's the worst standard 5-star in the game. Thus, meta-wise, he's a loser, and it always feels bad to lose the coinfip to him. His jobber status in the story further amplifies his already poor reputation, and thus it becomes funny to make fun of him for being a jobber. For similar characters in other games, see: Qiqi (prior to her stellar buff) and Nekomata (prior to her buff). These memes started because these characters are (or were) complete fucking trash. Of course, both of these characters are actually good now, whereas Yanqing is still complete trash.
>>748986507>His jobber status in the story further amplifies his already poor reputation, and thus it becomes funny to make fun of him for being a jobber.Explain to me how he is a "jobber", because all I see is a kid getting reality-checked after his master warned him against pursuing Blade. He really needed it because it's for his character arc where he learns to grow up and listen.
>>748986939He loses most fights, and he's also bad in terms of meta. How is this difficult to understand? If he weren't so shit in the meta, he wouldn't get as clowned on as hard. The gameplay is what makes it funny.
>>748987028>He loses most fights,Except that he had a reason to. It was to get through his stubborn skull because he is too eager to prove himself and handle everything on his own. If it takes multiple reality checks for him to finally understand, then so be it. People need to look up in the dictionary what "jobbing" actually means, I swear...

>>748987291>>748986939To newfags, "jobber" just means person who loses. They're not intelligent enough to actually think about term and understand its actual meaning.
>>748987291Trailblazer also beat him bunch of times, and so did this dude, who is easily the least popular character in the game.It doesn't help that "plucky boy apprentice" isn't really that well liked archetype in these games. So it's easy to reduce characters like that into a meme.
>>748988228>Trailblazer also beat him bunch of times,"Bunch of times"? Last time I checked, it was only once when the Trailblazer was helping Kafka and Blade get patrolling Cloud Knights off of their backs.A Heliobus-empowered Yanqing literally won against Trailblazer later on, forcing them to retreat and call Jing Yuan over to him.And Luka??? Where did you get the idea Luka beat Yanqing? Yanqing literally beat him up in the tournament in front of the entire audience. What are you blabbing about? Watch the duel between Yanqing and Luka again.
>>748987957>To newfags, "jobber" just means person who loses. They're not intelligent enough to actually think about term and understand its actual meaning.Unfortunately, yes. People's brains have become too meme-addled that they turned into NPCs with no independent or coherent thought of their own.
I'm surprised Yanqing has defenders. You'd think after losing to him in the 50/50 enough times, everyone would despise him as a matter of principle.
>>748990330>I'm surprised Yanqing has defenders. You'd think after losing to him in the 50/50 enough times, everyone would despise him as a matter of principle.Yanqing defenders exist because people were sick and tired of people picking on a kid for acting like a kid and defining his character only by his losses and not his personality and motivations.
>>748987291It's hard to believe he's anything special when 4-star retard of the cloudknights Li "My cock is bigger than yours" Sushang matched him in a 1v1 where she was explicitly told to not hurt him. He exists to lose so the winners look better. Jobbing is his story purpose.
Don't forget that a big part of his introduction is that he's supposed to be this genius, prodigy swordsman. You would expect, even at his age, that he would be impressive, but he loses all of his on screen fights (or nearly, I haven't kept up with Starrail in a long time). And his losses are generally justified (Blade, for example). That doesn't stop him from acting arrogant like he's king shit of fuck mountain and then getting "humbled" only to act the same the next time he shows up in an event or side story. It also doesn't help that he's dogshit as a unit, so people clown on him. If he was shown to be good, then his losses would make the people who beat him seem threatening or impressive, but Yanqing is just so dogshit that when he shows up everyone immediately assumes he'll lose.
