Now that the dust has settled, we can all agree that Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny was the best game in the series, correct?
>>
I didn't play that game, but I can confidently say that Dawn of Dreams is better.

Yep, it's the best.

Giving gifts feels good!

I can confidently say you're wrong.

It's the little things.
>>
I'd agree. Though I'll also say the PS2 games are all good. Including Dawn of Dreams, and especially my beloved and ignored Blade Warriors.

Genma Onimusha is the actuak peak of the series. Too bad it was stuck on Xbox.
>>
>>748989415
I never did get to play it. What was different about it other than the doll? I always wanted to play it.
>>
>>748987997
Almost done with Dawn of Dreams. I say its a better version of two.

the enemies hit alot harder and can suck souls like you. There also an extra dungeon you can beat to get the best gear but at that point, the game is already armor.
>>
>>748987997
I don't think it was even as good as 1, I hated the linear areas and how the alternate character parts were just redoing the exact same linear areas back to back with jubei
>>
>>748989890
"already over"
>>
How do the Onimusha sequels compare to Onimusha Warlords?? Are they all Resident Evil with swords or does the formula change?

The other games are alot longer so if you fine with that, try it.

Oni 3 was weaker in several ways (3D backgrounds, cartoonish enemies, dull characterisation) and DoD was dramatically different, like an action-jrpg samurai Final Fantasy. Oni2 hits the sweet spot of being an expanded Oni1 mechanically with some more depth and scope, while retaining atmosphere/prerendered beauty + some RE-dna. Most replayable too.

I do wonder if Old Jubei will show up if there's a sequel to WoTS. Young Musashi does seek out the Yagyu clan after all. The Night of Genesis manga from Dawn of Dreams even had this basic plot point.
So far they've basically distanced the new game completely away from the original canon - there's not a single concrete allusion to anything prior (by design). But will the sequel be the same and confirm that it's a true reboot?

they're all quite different, Oni 1 is basically RE in medieval Japan castle with some light horror

Oni 2 was developed at the same as 1 but with a different team in parallel, it has a lighter tone, less horror, more wacky with comedic villains and there's a convoluted social system where you can befriend different party members and play as them in different branching scripted segments each with unique weapon styles including one with a rifle, meant to increase replay value, but gameplay is mostly the same

Oni 3 goes real time 3D instead of pre-rendered but keeps fixed angles, you main two dual protagonists each trapped in a different era with time travel between medieval Japan and modern day Paris, with occassional "puzzle dungeons" where you have to "find a key in the future and send it in the past" or "activate a platform in the past so it stays in place in the future" kind of thing, they both have different move sets and need to level up independently so pacing suffers a lot; gameplay still similar but with a few changes, there's also a small musou segment near the end and you also get a third character, a girl with shotgun and rifles

4 is full time 3D and third-person gameplay, it's like the RE4 of the series, tone goes full shonen anime with a blonde spikey hair teenager as your protagonist who befriends a bunch of team members along the way and you can swap to including one fist fighter who's a lot of fun to play, it's also a bit more RPG-ish and longer, don't remember details

Oni 5 is a more typical modern ARPG obviously inspired by Sekiro but doesn't bring back the more outlandish stuff from the sequels, no wacky team members, no dark realm

3 > DoD > 1 > 2

Haven't played the new game.

Not necessary. Just get the highest base damage weapon you can get with the moveset you like. Shit, just do the Dark Realm. Even if you don't do it all the way to 100, the level 50 weapons are really good. Tenkai's in particular is arguably one of the best in the game and it's easy to build him as your main damage dealer if you aren't using him to buff.

It's insane that capcom didn't port that version it would like if they port DMC 3 and it wasn't the special edition

Oni4 was pretty cool.

Didn't manage to beat the Dark Realm. Got to the 80th floor or something and something went horribly wrong.
>>
>>748991295
DoD was too good for this gay earth. I still wish they'd give it a proper hd port.
>>
>>748991181
Goddamn I miss these insane pre-rendered backgrounds. Like seriously. Oni 3's environments don't look bad, but they never looked anywhere as good as the shit in Oni1 and 2.
>>
>>748987997
I loved the first one and couldn't get into Onimusha 2. Haven't played 3.
