>>748990274Yeah it's fine. I think the character writing is pretty bad but I think the world building is interesting. The worst offenders are the pirates and I'm glad they were relagated to complete background dressing after your arc with them is done.Garl is not as bad as everyone makes him out to be but the whole cast is very 1 note. In the dlc they address actual personality flaws of the protags that helps flesh them out a little more but garl isnt allowed to go on the adventure so he just stays boring goody 2 shoes perfect optimist.
>>748991121Also though I will say the character flaws they bring up in the dlc do seem to come out of nowhere because these traits aren't really shown in anyway in the core game but it'd be unrealistic to expect them go back and add scenes to show these flaws manifesting more beforehand, so all you can do is try to layer some stuff on after the fact so they did what they could I think.
It's not bad gameplay wise but the story is rote and the winking reddit dialogue does not make that acceptable, despite the creator's clear belief that it does. The main characters have no personality or arc, they are placeholders. Le wholesome fat guy is annoying and all the characters fellating him constantly makes him more so. The only interesting characters are the robot ninja girl and the warlock, who of course get minimal screen time and are eventually abandoned by the plot. The game has no real personality of its own, it's just a lesser Chrono Trigger without any of the soul.I did enjoy the Wheels minigame though.

The third wheel character who's name I cannot remember, is such a strikingly weird character who takes over everything. The fat guy. I'd say as time goes on you'll burn out on the gameplay more than anything though. That's what finally got me in. I was at the end-game doing end-game quests. I was doing some Arena super boss and halfway in I just turned off the game and stopped playing because I didn't want to do the buff/heal shuffle for the 20 minutes I could tell that fight was gonna take.Nice music, nice Background Art. non-human characters also look really nice. All the human characters look weird though.
