>in development hell for years
>several scrapped versions
>completely abandoned the tone and story of the games before it
>even changes known characters like Leon and Ada
>action oriented gameplay that would end up nearly killing the franchise in future sequels
>final version of the game we got was made in about a year
>one of the best games in the franchise and widely considered one of the absolute best video games in the entire medium
How did they do it?

RE4 OG is clunkslop uncslop. Anybody who says the remake is worse is a larping oldfag
>>
It's the most flawless modern video game, and easily the most influential
They did it by having a hands-on director, a reasonably focused team, and a lot of resources to iterate

Just a perfect accident. Plus Capcom was firing on all cylinders around that time. All their games from that era have a very similar comfy vibe.

comfy RE4 threads are gone and we have to deal with lazy unfunny bait like this in every thread forever

This is the magic sauce most games don't have, most people try to get it right on the first attempt but failure is part of the creative process, RE4 is good because they kept making and remaking it, it's why the final game feels so polished.

No one even mentioned anything about it. Launch RE4 set the bar for console games for YEARS after it released, it was that much of a step forward. Its easy to talk shit about it now 20 years later but god damn at the time it was insane and its influence was extreme.

Not only that, but the scrapped versions were good enough on their own to spark spin off games that went on to have their own success (Devil May Cry, etc). Capcom was cooking with gas.

not enough cash stranger

Take the dick out of your mouth and read the

Again.
>muh focused team, made muh 10/10 quippy masterpiece folded over a million ports

RE4 is a masterpiece because they didnt treat the RE formula like a sacred cow or have a pre-concieved idea of what the game needs to be. Instead they just set out to make the most fun RE game possible. For example the iconic RE4 inventory was a last minute addition, for most of development it was just a classic RE inventory and the knife was even an item you had to equip. They didnt even set out to make it an action game, it was just the shape the game took naturally. This sort of organic game design is very rare. Most games stay married to ideas even when they dont work well.
