So is it actually as bad as people have made it out to be? Or has it been unfairly maligned due to unfair competitive practices (e.g., BG3, TOTK, and other big releases that have cultish and uncompromising fanbases) or for other reasons?
>>748991874Its fine. Its not the "worst game ever made!" that people were out to make it as. Its just another Bethesda game but IN SPACE. Its biggest gripe tho is how safe and PG it is when it comes to its story and gameplay.
>>748992161other than Mass Effect (11/10 for me), are there any sci-fi games you would recommend? I've always heard X-Com is really good. and I know KOTOR 1/2 are classics
>>748992324>are there any sci-fi games you would recommend?Last sci-fi games I played were Outer Wilds(adventure, mystery, "puzzle") and Signalis(survival horror). I def recommend those. But if you were looking for more rpg's then Kotor would be good for you especially if you liked Mass Effect.
>>748992925Thanks, anon. Good call on Outer Wilds. I started playing it but got busy with real life. I'll have to go through that for sure. I enjoyed the few hours I was able to put in.
>>748991874It is aggresively mediocre. A modern day Morrowind.
>>748993047You should def pick it up again if you already know the gameplay loop of Outer Wilds. You could probably rip through it in a day. Worth going back and finishing.
>>7489918743/10 if just doing the main story (meaningless fetch quest of collecting space artifacts)5.5/10 when doing the all faction quests (they're decent)
>>748991874Its fine but comparing it to BG3 or TOTK is laughable
>>748993230
It's the exact same gameplay loop as Skyrim with a few more features. Main quest is shit. It is a good game.
>>748993975dunno if this is a hot take but I thought Skyrim was meh even in 2011. never finished itI played a ton of Oblivion. that was my first TES game and it was really immersive. Skyrim just felt like a drab version of that with few other changesmaybe the TES formula only works once. nothing about Skyrim seemed fundamentally fresh
>>748993975Wtf are you talking about?Exploration was a huge part of Skyrim. Starfield had nothing but follow arrow to designated fun point.> So same as Skyrim. So you are a retard.
>>748991874What's funny to me is how people claim NMS is much better when it's incredibly soulless and a terrible game. It might be technically good in terms of the seamless transitions while flying the ship, but the actual game part of it is shit. Starfield is good, it's still a Bethesda RPG for better or worse, the thing is, it is good despite the procedural planets bullshit and not because of it. If you ignore that part of the game you will have a good time, specially if you like TES, Fallout, etc. The concept of procedurally generated planets is just fundamentally flawed and stupid.
>>748996116i dont mind desolate procgen planets, that's basically how space is IRL. the game just doesnt give you many reasons to interact with them
>>748992925play 40k rogue traderunironically the best newest thing close to mass effect
>>748997797Has Owlcat polished it? I think at least one major DLC is on the way as well, right?I hate today's production cycle of releasing buggy games and patching as a live service. I'd rather wait 5 years for the game to be completed and perfected.
>>748993148Daggerfall, but yes
>>748998081its in a decent spot now. it was pretty bad on launch, but 3/4 dlcs are out and the 4th is coming by end of year. also if youre worried about bugs toybox can fix basically anything
>>748997379At least at launch, it didn't even get that right. You'd see human activity everywhere besides a very few number of abandoned systems. Mods did fix it but it was silly.
>>748991874it's lovelyI need to play more, I must be over a hundred hours in and still didn't beat the main story yet
>>749001049>DaggerfallIt offends me you would compare it to Daggerfall. I was expecting a Daggerfall in space, and it failed to deliver that.
>>748991874Just try it out yourself if you like Bethesda games. To me it's better than Fallout 3 and 4, but quite worse than Skyrim and Oblivion. Went to it expecting abysmal dogshit based on all the internet discourse but it ultimately is just another Bethesda title. If you're a space autist, even better.
>>748991874I really like the new game plus concept they have going, but they should've let you keep your ship. Part of me hopes they carry the concept forward for elder scrolls 6 and beyond but I don't know how they could without it seeming shoehorned in and out of place. Maybe some shit about achieving CHIM or whatever they call it. Honestly after the reception Starfield got I bet they'd be too afraid to use anything from it, even if it'd be cool.
>>748997797>rogue traderI really didn't like this. Way too much yapping and combat is uninteresting and takes forever.
>>749005726>better than Fallout 3 and 4, but quite worse than Skyrim and Oblivion.Pretty much where I'd put it as well. But I'll give FO3 credit for inventing 3D fallout, even if it's pretty bad in retrospect. 4 had no excuse.Starfield is pretty fun as long as you pick up quests and don't try to aimlessly wander around and discover stuff. That playstyle doesn't work well in such a big world. Hell it barely worked in Skyrim because you'd end up running into doors needing a key from some quest all the time.
