What they should've done is this
>Kratos is now silent and rarely speaks, only when needed
>Asgard sends asshole god to kill kratos
>ends up harming Atreus
>Kratos violently caves his skull in.

It's truly that simple, you show how Kratos matured without losing his edge, you get the best of both worlds.

The thing about the nu-GOW games is he didn’t mature. He’s basically doing the same shit he always has but has been manipulated into fighting the Norse gods by his new dead wife. She set everything up and he never seems to realize how fucked up it is. He’s a dog who is following commands set up in advance.
