How does Resonant compare to the original, what's the /v/erdict so far?I remember the original being neat with the atmosphere/level design, powers and all, didn't ever get around to playing its DLC though.
If you think you hate Darling, you don’t hate him enough.
>>749004653It’s pretty good. Combat is fun, and I like messing around with all the weapon combinations to find stuff that’ll work together. Playing dress up with Dylan is fun too.
>>749005207
>>749004653ubislop open word, boring combat, very cool world design, great visuals, sick sound design, writing is missing sam lake and thus the weird factor, pacing is offi much prefer 1
>>7490058011 was honestly just a bland cover shooter.
Better than the first.
Remedy proves once again that they're the best level and environmental designers in the business.
>>749004653much better than 1, an actual game
>that tfw when they crank the Finnish Bring Me The Horizon knockoff
>>749005207>>749005668Crazy they had so many details like this on whiteboards and post-it notes etc but no war to zoom in, so you just have to angle your camera weirdly in the hope of capping it>>749006540Speaking of Finland there's something endearing about Remedy's version of America where somehow seeing people with Finnish accents or use its language or bits of Finnish culture is just something that happens every other day or so

>>749004653I'm having a blast. People say the combat isn't deep which is kind of true but it's a lot of fun running around spamming abilities and the dodge button.I like The Physicist the most as boss fights go, but I haven't fought the last one yet. Wish there were more.

>they had Dylan on blood thinners what the fuck
>>749004653GOTY, combat needs mods to add depth with weapon swap and others, bosses could have a couple more mechanics to them, but the base game is so good you look past these things thats my opinion on it, nothing this year comes close to how good this is
>>749005207>>749005668>>749007078>>749007146Reading this shit along with the documents found in the training area was seriously depressing. It's even worse after the 2D section with kid Dylan and Jesse
>>749004653I really haven't gotten very far but the combat is boring me. I am shocked there is a lack of combos in a character action game. The few powers I do have are cool, but so far there is only the 3 light attacks or 3 heavy attacks plus the one finisher. Dynasty Warriors has a deeper combo system than this even if it was just variants of light light heavy or light heavy light light. I looked through the upgrade tree to see if it gets expanded and it seems that some of the finisher moves get an extra hit but thats it.I've heard mods can fix it by adding weapon swapping but even if I did that I'd just be getting different flavors of 3 light attacks or 3 heavy attacks in a row without much mixing it up.Am I missing something here? Because the world and visuals look really fucking cool its just every single combat encounter is beginning and ending the exact same for me.
>>749004653Quite different in style and tone but it all meshes well if you take it as the other side of the coin instead of a sequel that furthers the world. What I can say is that it's definitely very different in how it approaches combat. It's not deep by any means, especially if you expect something like DMC, but the fun comes from how dynamic it can get with both the environment and how you combine your combat abilities. The enemies might seem a tad spongy at first, but it's so you get smart with how you move around and how you stack different buffs. It really makes you think about who to prioritize, and you do all these split second decisions that keep it engaging. The problem is that it takes around 7-ish hours for you to find a groove with some of the moves and abilities, but the world to me was so fun to traverse and explore that it didn't really hinder my experience.
>>749009382Never have I wanted to give a character a hug as much as him, man
>>749004089A friend on Steam told me that the reason why Dylan can fight the Hedron at all is because the Hedron was "gestating" into an anti-Hiss form, so Dylan basically punched a cocoon/a guy pregnant with himself instead of the normal Hedron that just bodied him and Jesse outside reality. Does anyone actually say that in the game? Can't remember anything like that coming up.>>749004653I miss guns. Throwing shit/Mold turrets eventually solve the aggravatingly puny melee, but it was nowhere near as frustrating as just shooting something.
>>749009675>The few powers I do have are cool, but so far there is only the 3 light attacks or 3 heavy attacks plus the one finisher. The depth comes from the powers and how you intergrate them into the melee combat flow and all the rpg effects you unlock on all the various skill trees. Its more of an action rpg than a pure action game
>>749007146
>>749004653I enjoyed them both and was skeptical about Resonant but it turned out great. I think Resonant has a much better upgrade system than the first randomly shitting out mods that do barely anything
>>749009991>Its more of an action rpg than a pure action gameSee that sucks because I was expecting to be able to style on enemies like you can in Devil May Cry. But if the player expression comes from pressing 1 or 2 or 3 at times is all there is I might be out.I wasn't expecting shit to be on the level of Bayonetta or anything, but if all melee combos are a literal button mashing with one dodge attack, then the combat is extremely shallow.
If they do a sequel I think the obvious progression is the siblings being able to merge into one 'being' again and combat involves shifting between the two for melee and ranged attacks
>>749010219You can still style, but you have to work for it a lot harder. Some weapons and abilities synergize with each other better than others, and taking advantage of those synergies makes combat a lot more fun.
>>749010370I hope they solve the Hiss decisively someday. If a goofball like Alan can kill off the Dark Presence (more or less) at the end of AW2, Jesse Dylan Faden should be able to wreck the Hiss.
>>749010370>>749010428What if they end up becoming Dylan Jesse Faden instead?
my blast having time kinda flattened after I discovered task boards and decided to complete all of them for completeness sakeThe escort missions should not be there.
So this game is good? I'm not seeing any heavy slander against this game, unlike Wolverine.
I've been having a blast with claude and I'm about to have him make me something that could be a total game-changer besides the mod I already made that's a game-changer
>>749004653Resonant has better boss battles.Control has better everything else. Better protag, less ugly NPCs, better trash encounters, better backrooms vibes.Honestly I'm kind of shocked they made Resonant a "Focus, M" ubisoft towers game.
>>749010519Why would someone decide to make a bad game?
>>749007146>not allowed to meet usRIP
>>749010519I’m having a fun time with it so far, and that’s more than I can say about Wolverine
>>749010428The ending of this pretty much implies that the hiss has been neutered by the patterning and even when the barrier drops it won't be that much of a threat to the rest of the world. Also that the Hiss that Dylan has inside of him seems to be basically 'patterned by him' - so really under his control.I could see another point of difference between him and Jesse now also being Jesse having Hedron powers through Polaris in her, whereas Dylan has Hiss powers. So that'll be in their movesets too if they become a single character
>>749010646Notice how you didn’t show Jesse’s disgusting face.

>>749010829Correct. I prefer her ass
>>749011004I didnt know what it means but from context I assume its occasionally having an ally speak to you on the radio so the game feels less lonely and you dont need to always go to a specific place to receive or return a mission, you can just report it on the radio to the ally
>>749009925>basically punched a cocoonThe pattern walls are the cocoon, post game dialogs said Manhattan is like the hedron are making something to counter another being at the edge of the dimension
>>749010995Stop all the downloading
>>749011004It means instead of looking at what's going on in the world you've got a bitch in your ear constantly telling you what you're seeing. It's awful."Okay Dylan go and find the factory""Looks like you found the factory Dylan now try to find a way inside""Good job Dylan you made it inside the factory"
>>749011239>90% of it is optional and started by the player
>oh cool now the Hedron is defeated and the barrier is fading, Manhattan will return to what it was, right?>Lol no it's stuck like this foreverKind of a funny thing to make clear
>>749011285I think it makes sense for a scifi thingyou can imagine the change required some sort of energy to do work, and after the energy source disappeared theres a time delay to reality to force things back
>>749011281>If you don't like bad dialogue then don't talk to NPCs>It's your fault for playing the game the way the devs obviously intended you to play
>>749011043It doesn’t. It’s a very specific type of AAA writing style that makes it clear the writer is embarrassed by having to work on this game, and having an annoying character that tells you exactly what to do like you’re a toddler. Think of Wolverine as an example. That game also has radio banter, but it’s much closer to Focus M because of how patronizing and irony poisoned the dialogue is. Control Resonant basically tells you from the get go that Zoe isn’t here to walk you through the process of wiping your ass, and that you need to figure puzzles out on your own.
>>749011037What ass? There’s nothing there.
>>749011418Would you prefer they give you no option at all? Cuck faggot
>>749010825I interpreted the ending as the Patterning still being there, just no longer replicating indefinitely, but the Hiss being unresolved since there's still shit to do in New Game+. And I mean, I expected the Hiss to be more or less neutered after Control 1 but they adapted.
>>749011239>Zoe>annoyingWay to make it clear you have shit taste.
>>749011063Any indication whether or not the other threat is just more Hiss?
>>749011239>"Okay Dylan go and find the factory">"Looks like you found the factory Dylan now try to find a way inside">"Good job Dylan you made it inside the factory"None of this is ever said. Usuallly Dylan points out that he notices something weird, Zoe acknowledges it and then Dylan on his own decides to investigate it. You didn't even have to phone in Zoe when you notice something you the player has chosen to this and then bitch about it
Every time someone mentions wolverine in a discussion about completely different games and genres this pic comes to mind for some reasonNo I didnt play wolverine, its a superhero games for 12y olds. You didnt play wolverine since you browse a website for adults. Stop talking about wolverine.

>>749011427I'd argue Resonant's writing is just as grating as Focus M, because the writers overused a particular style of exchange where Dylan reports back to Zoe with this quiver and infection in his voice like he's about to tell her that her dog is dead. >Uhm, Zoe?>What is it. Dylan.>I found... bodies. Lots>What? Fuck! I'll file a report with the FBC for recovery. Keep your eyes peeled Dylan, whatever killed them might still be around.>O-okay.It's so emasculating.

>>749012480I think they were going for a combination of executive suit (those pant creases would make a father proud) and action wear with the jacket and the hair do.It initially seemed a bit goofy but seeing how well the individual pieces represented her made me appreciate it more
>>749012881You can really feel Same Lakes absence. If he'd been involved Dylan would be schizo monologuing like his sister or having a back and forth with an imaginary Darling who never talks back. Now that'd be fun.
I think the writing was actually pretty mature in having Darling drop the quirk Chungus and show us actually all the shit he did with Dylan that we know he's done since the first game. BUT also managing to thread a needle of showing that while he has some reasons (pressure from Trench going insane, his own childhood seemingly being similarly abusive if only in intent morseo than scale), he still acknowledges at the end that while what he did is wrong, he won't apologise for it and he was right in doing it. They could've easily had it end with him begging for forgiveness and saying how much he regretted it all, but he doesn't. I guess it makes the mind and spirit rape he's currently getting in the Dark Place feel a bit more justified.

I should probably give Alan Wake 2 another chance. I did not enjoy the detective board mechanic when I first tried it, game was just too slow.
>>749014093yeah, it really lacked the weirdness and the idiosyncrasies that comes with Sam Lake's writing. >>749014624The Saga segments suck, and are completely boring. Alan has all the cool sections, since he’s trapped the Dark Place, and can write things in and out of reality instead of playing True Detective.

>>749015843you're literally mathematically wrong when you can, for almost no power, shoot a volley of mold bullets from your arm, inflict the status effect on anything in the game, then instantly blow them up by pressing the fire blast ability whose name is escaping me right now>>749015825would have been better if it was a white woman. i mean in an ideal world the character owuldnt have existed at all, period, in any form, but a white woman is better than a black woman; at least a white woman has a chance of actually being smart enough to weasel her way into the fbi using nepotism. i cannot take any of the following characters seriously in any context:>female in a 'science' or intellectual role>black person (male or female) in a science or intellectual rolethey literally do not fucking exist in real life for a very good reason and its instantly immersion breaking when DEI devs shove them into games. another good example is that physicist woman in the underpass. melanie grist or something. followed the tapes and shit around finally find her and shes literally a sheboon gorilla with a fucking afro, disgusting
>>749015696Zane is a weird one, didn't one of the other games say he eventually settled down somewhere in the Dark Place with his wife?>>749015597I don't like Dylan's writing in Resonant all that much, feels like the game isn't as good with balancing the lighthearted with the serious as Control 1 so sometimes his issues feel underplayed, but I definitely like him better than Saga at least. Saga was just there, but arbitrarily important due to being related to more interesting characters to justify her having deux ex machine powers to move her from plot point to plot point.
>>749015786>>749015832You can tell the team’s favorite DMC character was V.
>>749015971im probably ahead on talent points because i generally completionist each zone before moving on, at least up until the reset when you beat the resonant

What the fuck was the point of the taxi quest. what a fucking waste of time with no pay off.
>>749016018listen i liked V from a narrative standpoint and because if i didnt feel like trying at all, i could pick him and just button mash and get auto SSS, but im not going to sit here and pretend that the little twink bastard's gameplay had any nuance at all

>>749015786>>749015872Reminds me of the exact moment I realised in Control 1 that nothing in the game would ever be as good as floating and hurling shit or the base gun. It's a shame, some of the gun ideas are decent on paper but just fall behind the base gun due to scaling. The rocket launcher is fun, but it fucking blows up in your face which gets less convenient the faster and more sudden the Hiss ambushes become.
>>749016049cut content?I feel it had to have more going on besides find the pattern and a phone discussion
>>749016048im at the point where there are literally ZERO talents which give me any benefit, either because they use command charges (which i dont care about and dont have) or because theyre for abilities i dont have since i picked the other options. i pretty much just randomly spend them willy nilly since theres no point to any more talent points i get

>>749016595Stunted growth from years of isolation, abuse, some possession, and then a coma. So in a way, it's like inflicted autism.
>>749016005I don’t know. I just found him really endearing in this game. He’s remorseful for his actions, and wants to do everything that he can to help save people, even if that means being forced to work for the FBC, but he’s also not afraid of disobeying orders and lying if he thinks it’ll save lives too, even if it’d jeopardize his own life if the truth ever got out. He also gets more and more of his spine back, and learns to stand up for himself. It even genuinely shocked me when he told Emily there was nothing she could possibly do to make up for all the years he was locked away and tortured. His little drawings were cute too.

>>749010519its pretty good. its not masterpiece, lets be clear, but in an era of eternal fucking slop i give it an 8/10, maybe 7.5 if im being super critical.>>749016808nah dylan is a better character than jesse ever was. the only way resonant loses to control 1 is in the fact that the oldest house is WAY more interesting as a setting and project is a billion times better in 1
>>749016736He still killed Roberts, Carla, and about 15 other researchers. As we know from the tapes and notes, a few of the researchers were sympathetic towards Dylan, and tried to get him better treatment, and there’s a possibility that he could’ve killed them too. Trench is responsible for the other 300 or so deaths because he let the Hiss in, but Dylan has blood on his hands too.

I think the combat system is kinda jank and cycling status ailments and debuffs isn't that interesting especially when the controls are very restrictive. For example, you have all these abilities on the shoulder buttons, but why can't you charge them while attacking? Like doing your combo while holding a barrage and releasing it after it ends.
>>749017210It’s a bit bare bones, but it’s also their first time trying a combat system like this.
>>749016915if you like to be leashed by woman with authority, then maybe.its a "humiliation ritual" the character.

IT’S IN MY NATUREI’M A HELL RAISER TILL THE BITTER ENDI FIGHT FOR CONTROL WE GO TO WAR
Why are all sidequests such nothingburgers?it's as if Remedy was afraid of hiding story/gameplay-relevant mechanics behind optional objectives. There is literally nothing of note happening in any sidequests>taxi leads nowhere>camera, karaoke, subwoofers are just altered item hunts>one of the twins turns into a mold host>underhill resigns and allegedly fucks off to fight the mold with her own methods but you don't get to see any of thisThey're all very underwhelming compared to Janny work in Control 1, even the FBC containment quests had more effort put into them and they were entirely optional.
>>749017821Scythe is the best weapon. It hits far and wide and builds power like nobody's business. It's also great for hitting flying enemies because he actually aims it up unlike the fuckass other two weapons where he lifts enemies then keeps comboing on the ground.,

>>749018010I had a strong sense this game was made on a budget and the budget was invested in a handful of set-pieces and making the foundational game with its systems and base visuals. Most of the the side quests were all ass and economical. They tried to mask it by making some of the main quest hide in the side quests-category. (Sometimes I couldn't progress the main and the game expects you to tick off a specific side quest first. It's really bad at communicating this, however, and it made me stuck in a way that I had to google)
>>749018305what side quest you needed to google?
>>749016253Yes.
>>749018305It's very clear to anyone with eyes this was a budget game meant to create assets for their future games. It's the RE8 of Remedy games. Doesn't mean it's bad, I think it was worth the money
>>749004089Do I have to play the first game to understand the story?

>>749018531No but you should play it because it's actually good
>>749018531you probably want to finish all aw1, control1, aw2 before hopping to thisPart of the charm is the world they're building, and some of those games have their narrative high points that do things better than resonant
>>749018346I needed to have a traverse ability to progress. I ran in circles for hours partly because I didn't understand what the fuck the game was trying to make me do.Suddenly the characters focused their attention on those wave-y spheres that were covering the entire NY map from the very start, and imo they were not clear enough about it, because you become blind to them if you can ignore them for tens of hours already, and up until that moment, every jump from one platform to another was doable with the regular jumping mechanics.
>locked all the cool outfits behind regional preorder bullshit for some reasonGay
>>749018597I had the mold boss require an ability from a jesse fault, but they also talked about where I should do to get it. I think I did the fault you needed organically without guidance.
>>749016820Hedron/Polaris was instructing Darling how to make HRAs and informed him about "something bad" (Hiss) coming. He then gets naked and somehow is teleported either into the Dark Place or some dimension in-between.
>>749018653I think what made me angry about my situation is that the problem emerged while being neck deep in that main quest, so my brain is scrambling to find solutions within that playing field and it doesn't expect that I have to drop everything and go to another playground instead. Was genuinely fucking pissed.
>>749018867Jesses faults are a main quest tho
>>749018517>this was a budget game meant to create assets for their future gamesI've been saying this for the last couple threads. Most of the NYC assets in Resonant have already been used for the Dark Place in AW2 and will be used again for the Max Payne remake, some areas are even 1:1 remakes, like Roscoe Street Station lookalike you go through to get from Downtown to Central. All the Oldest House assets have already been featured in some capacity, either in Firebreak or the original Control. Some anon also mentioned how some of the of hiss enemy designs are also straight out of Firebreak. It's all carefully planned to be as economical as possible, but fuck man, I would have really liked some better sidequests.>>749018305>budget was invested in a handful of set-piecesyeah, pretty much. they had a handful of environment ideas that they stuck to and everything else is filler. This would have been less obvious if they made the game max 20-30 hours long.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OaJA5iTUEVs - the Resonant "Teaser" from the lake house aw2 DLC is solid enough evidence of this, IMHO
>>749018301To this day I am still buttmad there's no Re-tier outfit modding for Alan Wake 2Imagine Saga's fat ass cheeks in an office outfit, we got fucking robbed
>>749018980What's funny is that in this teaser they literally show the final area and final enemy of the game in retrospect.
>>749018010The mold quest seemed to have a pretty big revelation that the mold is seemingly evolving to try and become more human, not as a way to trick more humans into eating it, but literally as it's goal. It could be due to the patterning, which is why the Collective is what it is
>>749018531The game includes a ~5 min video recapping the events on the first gameIf thats not enough you could watch a more in depth youtube video or play the game, its better than this oneYou dont need to play either of the alan wake games for this one, its more the other way around, that the alan wake games benefit from having played the first control

Does Jesse also have Hiss inside her from that time she got corrupted?
>>749019446She got something else inside of her our baby
>>749019410You don't know jack shit about female auditory. They don't want someone as messy, weak willed and gross looking as Dylan. He belongs to the same archetype as Shinji. No, it's about a girl busting into his life and trying to fix it.
>>749019446No she has hedron inside of her. Dylan is hiss Jesse is hedron.
>>749019483>the piss
Control 3 and AW3 should actually be a single game where Jesse and Dylan team up with Alan to take down Darling and Zane
>>749019547Alan Wake 2 and its DLC make very clear that Alan next big enemy will be Mr.Door
>>749019638I dont think they'll want to re-use that actor in the current year
>>749004653Haven't finished it yet but I like it as much. Characters are a lot more fleshed out and interesting here, Dylan is a better protagonist even if I already liked Jesse, I like that the focus on characters and the things they went through helped make it feel a bit smaller scale even though the main threat escalated. I don't want these games to go too far into Marvel shit territory, which Alan Wake 2 came dangerously close. This brings the focus of the story back to the events of Ordinary.I like the level design a lot, I like the combat, needed more enemies, but still their largest roster to date, so glass half full and all. Main thing I miss is the Oceanview Motel and Casino, my favorite part of the first game.Alan Wake is still my favorite Remedy game but Control is their strongest franchise and I'm much more excited for a new Control than a new Alan Wake.

>Control's main theme is taking control back of you life (natch), symbolised by Jesse, after spending a lot of the game being flustered and lacking confidence, breaking out of the wagie nightmare and embracing her destiny as Director>Resonant's is instead about finding a reason to live. Dylan has multiple times in the game where he basically says he'd be willing to die, asks Zoe to kill him with the MCD multiple times and mentions that his initial Hiss possession was effectively a suicide attempt. And the climax of the game is him ripping off the MCDKino
>devs directly acknowledge they got inspired by evangelion and even put a direct reference to it into the game>female lead is a 30 something hapa Asuka
>>749020634for now we know that it sold between around 400 thousand on Steam by now, that's pretty fucking good considering we don't have any data on console sales yet and it seems it will outsell Alan Wake 2 which was the fastest selling Remedy game. It took Alan Wake 2 around 2 months to get to 1 million so Resonant being half way there in just 10 days is very promising
>>749020645Dylan has childlike wonder, is innocent and curious but what he went through left him deeply scarred. Jesse was weird in a good way and made for a good protagonist to experience the Oldest House through, but Dylan feels more like a person who lived through that. To be fair a lot of it is down to dialogue choices and they made sure to include some for the player who always picks paragon for everything so it may come through more strongly to some people than others, but I thought his transition from hiss schizo to Shinji was excellent. I loved that even as they face a world ending threat that now escaped containment, they managed to make the story of the siblings and what they went through in Ordinary (and the aftermath) the most interesting and important of all.To me, the most interesting types of weird fiction are the "chance encounter with the unknown" stories. You know, the hypothetical "game where you play as an FBC agent and see weird shit" a lot of people wish for. And I think through Dylan we got closer to that than to MCU shit, which is the inevitable endgame of escalating threats in what is essentially battle shounen anime.Control was all about the Oldest House and its mysteries, Jesse was an observer, and an interesting one, but the parts I cared the most about her character were the ties to Alan Wake, her knowing Zane as a poet and all. With Dylan I think more of his personality, dialogue and reactions to things than lore when I think about him.Now you can make a strong case that a protagonist like Jesse is better suited to weird fiction and I wouldn't necessarily disagree, making Dylan a more complete character does have a cost, but he is the more complete character.
>>749021141>hapa AsukaReally, man? That seems like a huge reach. I'd sooner believe she's a post-menopause Mari.
>>749021193Well fuck you, I liked Jesse being weird in a good, working class, midnight shift gas station attendant way more than playing a literal manbaby. And I completely disagree Jesse was just an observer, she took action to get shit in order.
>>749021141There's more than one, according to the director.Other than the nerv building, they directly referenced the sniper rifle episodeCan't tell you when it was, either haven't reached it yet or completely missed the reference, but it's what he said.

>>749020645What personality?
>>749021242I liked her too. I think maybe you just disliked Dylan and you're assuming anyone who thinks he's a better character feel the same way but about Jesse. I thought she was great, I just think Dylan was better. When they announced the game with playable Dylan I thought "bold choice but interesting", wasn't writing it off but wasn't particularly excited for it. But now if I have to choose only one for 3 I'm choosing Dylan without thinking twice. Hopefully I don't have to choose.
Oh my god, I was in a threshold. Holy shiiiit
>>749021441Indeed. Jesse had a character when she showed it, but she is a very stoic person. That's not a good fit for a narrative about the horrors of lockdown and being stalked all your life.

>>749021192Where did you get this data?
>>749004089this game is unplayable for me without the head size slider mod
>>749021729Yeah, it's what I meant by observer. She's a great vehicle for the player to experience the weird shit in the Oldest House and form their own opinions and have their own reactions. Hell of a lot better to have a stoic protagonist barely reacting than WELL THAT JUST HAPPENED, at the very least. She's like the Mad Max of weird shit.

Question: Did they ever confirm what the relationship between 'the' hedron of the first game and Polaris was? Was the hedron Polaris' body, but it still survived in Jesse? An amplifier for Polaris? Another of the Hedron species, like the Patterning is, that was helping?>>749022243>Neither is talking to herself like a retard. To be fair she could be talking to Polaris
>>749022383Recap says Polaris is 100% dead, so just same species
>>749020579I was exploring underpass(late game area) and the game just gave up and gave me a marker for jesse in evacuation zone

>>749017004you are the first to actually unlock one lolEven if you search the net for it there are no pics of those rewards because no one unlocked them kek
>>749017004cosmetics look so fucking stupid in this game, I finished the game with an office suit and a normie haircut that I got near the beginning of the game.
>>749004653The second is much more ambitious and there are very few bad segments, you always stop to look around you in awe.Hope Remedy makes good money from it so we get more Control kino
>>749023183They could have AT LEAST give him a cool leather jacket or a bomber jacket, that jacket you get after the party is so goofy.Hopefully mods will fix it.A suit like the one in RE9 wouldn't hurt either
>>749013691holy fuck, didn't even register while playing Lake house DLC they were teasing Arish
>>749018305i remember reading somewhere that that is literally the case, they purposefully avoided spending hundreds of millions on the game. probably smart all things considered, but it could come as a surprise to some people.
>>749015562>game that came out 7 years ago looks worse than sequel that came out two weeks agoHow riveting.
>>749024141yeah because Remedy is independently publishing it(with some help of Annapurna) so they had to pay the development costs by themselves but will also reap all the profits, they were really careful so that's why they're reusing so much assets from Control 1 and Alan Wake 2. With Alan Wake 2 Epic payed for the game dev cost fully so Remedy started getting payed royalties only after the game fully recouped the dev cost.
It’s a masterpiece. The art direction and level design are some of the best I’ve ever seen. I finished it at around 25h and now am playing through Control, which seems to be really good as well, even though I prefer the melee combat of the sequel. Thinking of playing Alan Wake 2 next, but I’m not too much into horror games, is it worth it?
>>749024829It's not really a scary game, outside of a couple of jump scares here and there. It's horror in genre but doesn't really try to make you feel scared most of the time.I didn't like it but if your concern is it leaning too much on horror and not enough on weird fiction, then there's nothing to worry about.
>>749024829I'd personally recommend giving Alan Wake 1 a shot first; if you've got even a mediocre PC, Steam is currently doing a sale for 1 + American Nightmare (spin-off sequel) for like $4. I will say that AW1 does have some janky parts in it, and it's very much a 2010 Xbox 360 game, and that can be a big roadblock for some; so if you can get over that, it's probably better to hit first, otherwise jumping to AW2 should be relatively fine. All the AW games have a good spooky atmosphere, but it's nothing too scary. 2 has a few jump scares, but from what I can remember, it's like maybe 5 or so through the entire game.
>>749025113>you've got even a mediocre PC,If he played Resonant I think his potato computer can handle Alan Wake.

>>749010428Anon...there's stuff in Resonant implying Scratch is STILL torturing Alan after the events of AW2. The Dark Presence will never disappear so long as the Dark Place exists, since it's basically a part of it.

>>749016650I didn’t like Dylan at all at the start of the game and was jokingly calling him a onions boy beta cuck getting bossed around by women. But by the end of the game I really grew to like him and feel bad for anything negative I said or thought about him.
>>749034805Did him being molested get you sympathize with him

>>749016695I think that kind of thing demonstrates how emotionally broken Dylan is. He's learning how to human again after a literal lifetime of trauma and it's purely touch-and-go.
>>749019446No, she just has Polaris.
Silly dog.
>>749021498Dylan getting more and more snarky as the game goes in is great.
>>749022383>>749022430The first Hedron was basically just an amplifier for Polaris, something to wake Polaris up and spread her around. Jesse even says that the Hedron died, but Polaris was still around. We have no idea what Polaris is.

>>749014725Saga sucks because she has all the gameplay and screentime in an Alan Wake game, yes they are doing stuff specifically because of Alan Wake but that isn't the actual focus. They seriously had to retread the same path as the first game because "new players" so they had to make a character who hasn't been introduced to the lakes supernatural bullshit so they can have the character "Learn" along with the player, it's complete fucking padding that did nothing for the story and the fact they keep delaying shit with cliffhangers and taking literal years to flesh out their garbage universe makes it lame as fuck for anyone actually attempting to follow along. Not to mention each of their games have bullshit collectibles that you need to collect to even get all the lore, they literally want you to waste your time attempting to piece this stuff together but forgot to actually make a good game behind it, again.
>>749017387Roberts deserved that desu.
>>749022383Polaris was just a very weak/dying hedron, and was the same one as what they had "contained". Game tells this a couple of times after you find out that a hedron is causing the patterning. Can also speak with pope about it.
>>749035556>Saga sucks because she has all the gameplay and screentime in an Alan Wake gameShe's basically the vehicle for the story to take place, while allowing a "modern audience" to connect with the world of Alan Wake, like you said. So Dylan's entire gimmick is that he's bad with binding objects to himself but extremely good binding powers from other dimensions entirely?
>>749037079I don't think he's good at anything besides fighting off possession.
modern remedy writing is unbearablei am surprised there are people ITT enjoying this slopeven more surprised that they made another control game after the last one was incredibly mid and basically a glorified tech demo with a lot of boring SCP notes to read

>>749037851noob hedron, didn't even get everything in the world since hiss were still there and piggybacked off trench to get out
>>749022383>>749022430>>749035889Per word of Jesse if you return to the Hedron chamber in the first game:> "You and Hedron were never one and the same. She...It helped Darling with the HRAs to slow the Hiss down. And it helped me learn to tap into this power I had inside. You." She knows Polaris better than anyone so this is as definitive an answer as we're getting. If Polaris is just some sapient inherent power to Jesse and possibly Dylan, then it might explain why the Board insisted that they be kept "separated".
>>749004653Ive only played about 10 hours so far but it takes one step forwards for every step it takes backwards. Visually it's great but doesn't feel anywhere near as stylish as the first. Combat is significantly better and more varied in terms of your abilities but enemies still feel extremely samey with every nonboss fight so far being the same clusterfuck of endlessly respawning ranged enemies and a bunch of super agile tanky enemies that all dog pile you. The actual combat mechanics feel great but the enemies and arenas are once again complete dog shit. Manhattan is a significantly worse setting than the Oldest House. So far it has absolutely no character. Lots of "dungeons" are entirely linear with side hallways that end with chests of nothing materials. Most of these areas look exactly the same from beginning to end and do a very bad job of guiding the player through them naturally. I often found myself backtracking accidentally because everything looks exactly the same in places like the factory tunnels or in office building halls. Lots of "if its yellow that means go here" modern bullshit instead of competent level design in the open world.Changing your gravity to traverse the warped city is quite fun. Movement feels extremely good to begin and only gets better. The game starts you out with a significant amount of powers. It really hits that "superhero" feel the last game ended with right away. Within an hour I felt like Alex Mercer halfway through Prototype and I really liked that. Side characters are forgettable and exist only to exposition dump.Massive amounts of map marker slopCollectable storytelling items so far are extremely bland. Really really disappointed by this.I'm on a 3070, 9700x, 32gb ddr5 and the game runs at around 90fps at medium settings 1440p with dlss set to quality. 7/10 Annapurna astroturfed reviews.
>>749039409Second game says something else though
>>749015562Don't play on the lowest graphics setting then holy shit.
>>749039409Also:>Hedron is dead, but you're alive. Here. In me. Maybe Hedron put you in our heads when we met her. Maybe you were always there, and she was just trying to teach me how to trigger you.>>749039673The second game only says Hedrons are a species. They're individuals with their own opinions and approaches to the Hiss. The one in Resonant thinks nothing of destroying countless universes to wipe out the Hiss, the one in Control 1 was slow and subtle and bonded with the FBC and Oldest House to aid it because it was weak/dying, and Polaris (if she even is a Hedron) is purely benign and helpful to Jesse even as she opposes the Hiss. It's also worth noting that the two Hedrons observed both needed physical forms to contain their resonance and they died without said forms. Whereas Polaris doesn't have a physical body at all and merely acts through conduits like Jesse or the first Hedron.
>son and his mother (they're secretly dating)
This game better have made money. I want not I need another one. I'm so tired of studios like Remedy struggling to make a profit when they do nothing but make brilliant games, while literal shovelware slop makes billions.
>>749006683Yeah, I hated that shit. The game should have shipped with a photo mode because I'm already done with it and I'm not gonna go back and re-play it anytime soon to see all the small details I missed.
>>749030562I fucking love the Hiss. They're so cool and the red in the eye is kino as fuck.
if Board doesn't win best VA at TGA i will riot
So did they finally decide if Dark Place is scarier or less scary than the Hiss yet
Dylan and Jesse are cute! CUTE!
>>749040960A realistic reason for mid performance is Finland as a society struggling from low birth rates, high taxation which places unfortunate pressures to companies operating there.Hard to find local talent, hard to convince talent to locate to high taxation country, hard to make money because taxes, difficult to scale operations up because employing people is expensive and doing that is risky.
it was a crime not shipping this game with photo mode too.
but I was able to at least take some cool screenshots disabling the HUD. I was on PS5 so I didn't have mods to get a photo mode.
>>749041290To be fair having concrete buildings and high contrast single color lighting isn't that noteworthy.
also how the fuck did it get such lukewarm reviews? This game deserved to be in conversation for GOTY, not an 8/10.
>>749041132Those aren't my children
>>749041358The combat is mid, and the repetitiveness is felt more towards the end. Sure it could be a goty if it had better enemy variety and more going on for combat option, but as it is its difficult to rate it beyond 80-85/100
>>749041358Game reviewers cried about the combat because they are bad at games
>>749041358yeah I was surprised too, but Remedy games always review relatively poorly for whatever reason
>>749041290
>>749015786There are perks that buff you for command charges you have but don't use, they acknowledge that some people (myself included) have no interest in summon shit, I think that's pretty cool. Also 15 seconds execution buff is probably fucking broken and makes sense to gate it behind a bunch of shit you don't need.
>>749041353I do think in general the first game had slightly better art direction. The Foundation area for example was incredible>>749041648That was the most underwhelming quest in the game. It just sort of ends without any real resolution.
>>749041130The Dark Place is the seething (as in, it actually hates us) nothingness/sea of narrative potentia that exists between and outside all realities and dimensions in the Remedyverse. Every universe is just a single point of light on its 'skin' and its extrusions like the Dark Presence are akin to its antibodies or attempts to snuff out said light. Being directly sacrificed to it turned Door into a multiversal singularity by killing all of his alt-reality counterparts and Door himself can cause multiversity scale devastation if he wants. The Hedron-Hiss multiversal war is devastating, but the Dark Place will always be top dog in the setting's cosmology.
>>749041358not enough stronk independent womyn
>>749041697Because that's the point. Like the bunker guy and the twins subquest, it's just part of the subquests that represents the real dynamic between Jesse and Dylan after what happened to Ordinary. Both seperated, but willing to find each other. And one decides to finally go wonder to get the matter in their hands. Just like Jesse did in search for Dylan.
>>749041842*multiversal scale
