source 2 has rubikon, an in house physics engine, s&box has box3d, now opensource solution based on rubikon and box2d.
They fixed the issue in an update, but it looks like that ragdolls didn't inherit velocity from npc ragdolling on death. in half-life 2 dev commentary it's mentioned that they coded it so ragdolls inherit velocity from npc being hit by a car, looks like s&box didn't have this part of code.

I literally thing gmod is an accidental success. It literally only succeeded because you could drop whatever mish mash of source props and ragdolls and play around with them you wanted, and then you had the backbone of modders and programmers making things people wanted to play with it. Sandbox was a good start to build funny contraptions, then there was DarkRP, theaters, and other novel game modes and stuff.
Rust is honestly survivalslop. I remember playing it when it was still trying to be a zombie game. I dropped that shit when they started boasting about how your character's race and cock size was tied to you steam ID or some such. It is just one of those games where people only play it so they can be the big fish in a server, and you only do that when you are the biggest presence of people on a server.

I have no idea how to describe shartbox. Its like garry was convinced his prior successes are a result of his genius and he cannot possibly fail to create another. And he seems to think that vast majority of people who play garry's mod were people that want to hop around on random different gamemodes and do whacky things, but the reality is I think most players find 2-3 game modes they like and stick to them, forever. For me it was building stuff in sandbox and darkrp servers, other people it was TTT. But nobody wants to monetize their game modes and cosmetics and shit or play as ugly fucking sausage people.
