For me, FFX is the best entry in the series by miles. The first hour or so is pretty slow but after that it's just gripping the whole way through. Great story, great characters, one of the best settings in vidja.Didn't care for the games that came after since they dropped the turn-based format. Never tried XV or XVI so can't speak on them.FFVII was boring as shit. I made it to the part where you have to crossdress and dropped it, absolute shit game and the fans are delusional but I get it being impressive for the time. I liked VIII and had bought it new, but for some reason disc 3 was broken out of the box and wouldn't boot so never got to finish it. Never played IX, but plan on doing that soon.2D ones were fun but the stories were pretty basic and left a lot to be desired. After sitting through blitzball, the Celestial weapons quests, Dark Aeons bosses, and other shit, there is no way in hell I can consider it a top-tier FF. The game has almost no middle ground between its on-rails theme park ride of a main campaign and the woefully tedious, grindy shitshow that is its late game side content. It almost feels like people who still enjoy and frequently replay the game just speedrun the damn thing for the plot and don't engage with like 80% of the content.
