Garrosh had potential but they made him into an ass, even though he wound up being right about Sylvanas and bombing Theramore was a nothingburger ("I turned my city into a military superhighway and... got bombed? AHHH HELP ME VARIAN I'M TURNING RACIST" - Jaina Proudmoore).

Compared to some of the shit Sylvanas pulled, he was downright tepid at the point he was causing breakdowns in the faction and they're still trying to fucking redeem her. Bitch nuked THE major Night Elf civilian population and somehow manages to keep dindu status.

Horde had a shaman leader at first and seethed when got a warrior to represent them. Alliance had a warrior and bitched and moaned until Blizzard gave them a fagladin.

Warrior bigotry.

Garrosh jumpstarted a war between the Alliance after a world ending calamity. People forget that and act surprised when his generals/followers commit to acts of war to defeat the enemy. The worst part is Garrosh is not only older than Thrall but also obviously an uncorrupted orc. So he has no frame of reference for the violence, sadism, barbarism, cruelty and unhinged niggatry that your common orc has but triples down on it.
>>
>>749017830
>So he has no frame of reference for the violence, sadism, barbarism, cruelty and unhinged niggatry
He was left behind on Draenor with the sick and the weak when the rest of his people were turning the draenei into a road and jerking themselves off over invading another planet. He's so depressed in TBC because his only memories of his father are him drinking demon blood and turning into a bloodthirsty monster. The problem starts when Thrall shows up and tells him Grom was actually a Cool Dude despite almost dooming the orcs to be demon slaves. Twice.
>>
>>749017830
In fairness, being on Outland is arguably 10x worse than whatever the fuck Thrall went through. Objectively speaking.

>>
>>749010889
Garrosh was a complete mess even back in Wrath.
His TBC appearance was all about him thinking he was the cursed spawn of a psychopathic warmonger who nearly doomed their entire race, culminating in Thrall personally telling him about how Grom redeemed himself and ultimately saved them all.
So the geniuses who wrote wrath decided that his natural character progression would be to decide Grom's worst tendencies were pretty cool after all, rather than lean into his courage and self sacrifice.

Garrosh should have taken Saurfang's place as a calming influence, who makes anyone who forces him to take up arms promptly regret it. Have someone like Nazgrel, who actually was chomping at the bit to fuck up humans even in WC3, be the warmonger.

Of course Vol'jin didn't have the makings of a Warchief. As soon as he became Warchief, they made sure he did nothing for an entire expansion and then proceeded to kill him off because Varian was dying and they needed to villain bat Sylvanas.

Not like they wanna write the Forsaken or Blood Elves either in the modern game. Soon as the Horde effectively rejected Calia as a character, the Forsaken have been moving further and further in the background, the only time they got invited to the big Quel'thalas expansion was to serve as dungeon fodder for the crime of squatting in the old Windrunner house.
Then the Blood Elves aren't even allowed any plot agency in a expansion set in their own country and don't even get me started on the Nightborne.

>>
>>749026137
Makes sense Calia and her Forsaken would end up back in the Alliance while the Forsaken who have made friendships with the OG Horde would remain in the Horde. But then again there is some unwritten rule that probably prevents a race that wasn't implemented as neutral from shifting into such, even though it makes no sense narratively or even mechanically at this point given how long neutrals have already existed.

And then-again then-again, no one gives a damn about what happened in Retail after Shadowlands tried to shove another setting's cosmology into Warcraft's with all the finesse of a heart transplant done in the 19th century.

No one likes Calia as a character because she's written first and foremost to be an Alliance character, then slapped onto the Horde to be a replacement for Sylvanas. She's never earned her place as a Horde character which is why the Forsaken playerbase rejected her and the Horde as a whole did. There's a reason they had to pivot to using Voss for all future Forsaken representation. If they put more effort into making Calia actually feel like she belonged in the Forsaken and wasn't just there to make the Forsaken more digestible for Alliance fans, then she'd be fine.

Nobody picking the evil zombie race wants to be led by someone who doesn't look like them (a gross evil zombie) and constantly advocates for boring non-evil things. If you actually cared about Warcraft's story (and to think this was actually very common, ages ago) and you picked Forsaken, you did so because you wanted to feel like a shifty outsider even in the context of your own faction. You were not trusted yet you were relied upon because your "allies" had no other choice. This is an interesting and reasonable unique dynamic, and blood elves didn't really tread on Forsaken toes so much as bolster that dynamic.

Fast forward 20 years later and
>Sylvanas is a (retarded) neutral moral-grey character, like if Illidan was written worse
>Nathanos was based but is dead
>Lilian Voss has no consistent character and is a Cataclysm-era le foony reference
>Calia Menethil is a sad attempt to make the Forsaken lawful-good like the Alliance
>various named undead in a council that does nothing and where no one has a personality
How hard is it to make ONE character who sticks around and resonates with what the Forsaken were supposed to be?
>>
>>749027024
knaak is one of his favourite writers, so he may just be a slow-in-the-mind
>>
>>749026885
Trying to make Calia into a Horde rep is entirely the wrong way to be going about doing it anyways; at least with what I saw to me her "arc" (for however much you can call it that) ties more into WotLK where Varian and the Argent Dawn get the Alliance to slowly accept loyal undead members back into their ranks culminating into everyone accepting Alonsus Faol getting zombified, even Turalyon.

Whenever the game needs town guards but with the context of the Forsaken you get abominations. What this means is there are events like Brewfest, Children's Week or some neutral affair where these bloated carcass monsters stitched together from dead women and children and Garithos are standing around and everyone is asked to ignore them while engaging in festivities. All of this occurs not because it's a deliberate comical subversion or choice whatsoever but because Blizzard are morons who treat much of this game like an excel spreadsheet.
>>
>>749027393
They have a council now. The faction has barely been touched since the end of SL, although they did have a heritage quest in DF where they did some traditional Scarlet bullying. But it turned out the quest only existed to set up the Scarlets having somehow over taken Gilneas, allowing Calia to bring the Horde in and aid the Gilneans into getting their Kingdom back. It was shit.

Abomination guards are roaming around yes
They unplagued upper Capital City at the end of SL, but apparently the undecity is still a no no zone.
>>
I played WoW during vanilla, years and years ago, but I barely ever got into the lore and stories etc.

Do Forsaken have any of their old memories or interests and what have you?
I know Sylvanas does. And I know one of her top generals did, that Paladin guy who's righteousness was so great he continued being a Paladin in death.
I also know that there was a story in one of the modern expansions about a Forsaken reborn after the Lich Kings demise that couldn't handle being undead having memories of being alive, but I don't put much stock in that because modern Blizzard.

My question is - if it does exist, then how does that work? Like; you have a wife or husband you love, one of you turns undead, the other doesn't and goes on living.... Is this ever explored? How does this work in War? Do you see them both of you remember everything, what then?

>Do Forsaken have any of their old memories or interests and what have you?
It varies, some have a good memory of it while some have only fractured memories or no memory at all
>you have a wife or husband you love, one of you turns undead, the other doesn't and goes on living.... Is this ever explored?
Yes one quest has a Forsaken try to reconnect with their family but they are reviled as a monster (technically a few quests do this)
It is used to isolate said undead character and convey to the audience that all they have left is this paramilitary group of zombies they were drafted into by merit of being murdered

I think the entire arc shouldn't had been bothered with, but it would had been neat if you could have Alliance death knights use the Forsaken model.
Or to give Forsaken in general the option to vary the amount of decay on them, so some are using the Chinese models with the covered up bones, or you can have a model that's just a somewhat mangled human like with the protagonist of the new WCIII campaign.
The idea that each race should have an easily-identifiable silhouette was thrown out after the Shadow Elves or whatever they're called were permitted.
>>

The Forsaken aren't even involved in the last Scarlet plot. That happened in the Arathi Highlands and was mostly an excuse for the Alliance to fight Scarlets.
The Scarlets aren't even allowed to be purely Horde villains they can murder hobo these days, even they need to be shared with the Alliance. Which brings us back to 90% of the issues this setting has stemming from Alliance looking at the toy box Horde has and demanding it be given to them instead and Blizzard obliging.

Interesting. Would have been cool for a longer or bigger quest chain for this. If someone I loved turned into a Zombie, I don't think I'd hate them on instinct though. Then again, I don't live in magic sword and sorcery world where undead are a real problem.

I dont think you understand Forever's quest with his wife predates all of that. The quest ends that way now so Mankirk can get peace and doesn't end up a depressed serial-killer.

The alliance would be the bad guys for the horde by occupying gilneas, an alliance city? The motivation for using SC would obviously be to serve up both factions the same slop.

You can always tell when it's a fan of the Horde writing a Horde character and when it's a fan of the Alliance writing a Horde character. This dialogue is the perfect example.

Death knights are their own faction with their own faction leader that are divided into alliance and horde simply for gameplay reasons. The silhouette thing no one mentioned.

I remember reading leaks here that said Worgen will be on the horde this time but they wont be able to change forms. Was kind hoping for a worgen form for druids instead

Varian was a kidnapped prisoner in vanilla. He didn't have a model until WotLK iirc. Garrosh was not introduced until TBC.

They'll probably add Varian. Garrosh will never be added.

If Blizzard wasn't strangled by having to balance everything, it would be neat if Hordegen could act as spies in Alliance zones.

They are orcs, they're all about war, peace is not an option for them. For Orcs dying in battle is honorable.
And even as a one-off tragic story, original was way better tragedy than the new version.
Makrik's alone, missing his wife, knowing that she's most likely dead, but still wishing that he knew for sure, when you bring him the news, he doesn't even have words for you, doesn't say anything other than thank you. It's somber and simple, he's not relieved by the news his wife is dead. In new version, for some reason they wanted a happy ending for the story, yes she died, but look, her ghosts shows up and tells Mankrik that it's all okay and he should just move on with his life, isn't that nice. Doesn't feel tragic, doesn't feel compelling, feels like a disney movie ending.
>>
>>749028195
Doubt it. They put bes on the horde again to please self-inserters so worgen will be on alliance for a similar reason of giving them a furry race.
>>
why is everyone acting like we haven't already had purple and blue elves in the game since 2004
>>
>>749028375
The fact we already had previous examples of purple and blue elves is in part why new blue elves feel so redundant.
>>
>>749028445
I genuinely don't get you retard's complaints. Just choose the high elf skin options. It's the same shit. You can't turn an orc into an ogre or any of the other races into a naga. You have no genuine reason to complain.
>>
>>749028356
The Cata continuation also did it better, with Mankrik still going full grief murder hobo over his wife until another Orc who's concerned/into him sends you to try and bring him back. He comes back, mourns his wife and doesn't immediately move on to the new Orc chick either. They don't start actually saying he got into a relationship with Mahka until DF.

A game world and lore where every member of a race thinks the exact same way and wants the same thing would be a poor story. I am fine with there being orcs who just want to farm pigs and have a wife, and not go die in a battle. Even WC3 conveyed this with stuff like peons (not that they chose their role in society.)

You would be correct in a vacuum but this is a deliberate subversion. Unless I'm completely mistaken, Mankirk's wife's ghost showing up is meant to tell the audience
>Hey this is vanilla WoW but also a different timeline so stuff you expect will be taken in a new direction
I don't mind this conceptually. I do believe Blizzard will fuck it up because they are Blizzard.

What kills me is that Jaina should have gone scorched earth at some point but never does. Only promises that she might lose it some day like her mentor did.

>honor
>Lok'tar Ogar
>victory or death
The idea of honor has been a poison to the horde. Honor is a concept that ties weaker forces to set of rules that allow stronger forces to steamroll them.
There should have been a point in the story where an orc tries to honor duel an alliance member only to still be slaughtered despite winning.

Blood elves will likely have to be on horde so horde has a race for demon hunter.

WoW has always been pure faggotry.
>>
Most people don't want to admit it, but the fact of the matter is that WoW ruined the Warcraft franchise and ultimately, Blizzard as a whole. Everything went downhill after WoW.
Be reasonable, you know it to be true.
>>
>>749029572
Demon hunter only being open to elves could change. There's more reasons barring undead from being paladin. Other than them wanting to reuse everything.
>>
>>749029745
Actually it went down after warcraft 3. Defense of the ancients is what really did it. The fans are to blame.
>>
>>749029745
The issues were starting to show in TFT, hell even in vanilla WC3. The books following like WOTA then cemented the foundations of shit that'd actually end up breaking Warcraft as a setting, especially in it's later expansions.
>>
>>749010889
The only good thing to come out of retail WoW is that the Windrunner sisters all seemed to crave Big Human Cock which always made me giggle. Anduin should stop being a fag and fuck Calia (and someone how get her pregnant), that would be an exquisite meme.

>WC3
Yes I agree, in many ways WC3 started to show signs of deterioration, but at least it was still salvageable, it still cared about the story and all, but WoW shifted the focus to make something appealing to a broader audience, thus ruining the franchise. Things were no longer about the world of Azeroth, but about how the players interacted with that world and themselves, which I guess is fine on paper since a game's point is to entertain (not that I liked WoW, I found it to be mediocre at best), but it did sacrifice the world they had built, and it transformed Blizzard as a company, since it shifted their business model.
