This isn't something that the games have ever tried to balance themselves around, nor should they given how much that would nuke other playstyles.GSC are maybe the only pokemon games where I haven't had to waste my life grinding for the elite four after steamrolling the entire rest of the game which is objectively a positive quality. If you just treat the game casually and actually use your favourites you get to have a smooth ride with 0 grinding, even up to red. That's an objectively superior experience to hitting a 90 degree cliff at the champion.
