To be fair if it was supposed to be accurate to medieval England then all the nobility would be speaking Anglo-Norman and all the commoners would have something akin to West Country and maybe some northern accents. That's not the point, the issue is there's few if any accents that are largely unchanged from the medieval period. The West Country accent is one of them, it being noted in middle english literature. By the most part it feels like a worse Lost Crown clone, which by itself was a crystallization of modern MV trends. From a get go it has a significantly worse combat system (no launchers or combo mechanics or hold attacks or anything) but it's very similar in terms of movement, has a hollow knight charm system, hollow knight like map, water zones are just pits and there's a considerable amount of suck to target in combat. It also has estus flasks for some reason, and enemies are as tanky as in lost crown too despite not being anywhere as fun to fight against.

I actually thought the demo was kinda neat. A little surprised to learn that it's a direct sequel to Castlevania III, Rose is Trevor's daughter, and that apparently Trevor and Sypha got together. Also that Sypha's dead. But still, I didn't expect official game canon to adopt something from the Netflix cartoon.

Also, I wish I could draw, because I want to do some fanart referencing CardCaptor Sakura with the way Rose beat the first boss, "captured" him, he's basically a card now, and giving her a new power.
>>
>>749034982
I don't hate the demo but it could've been so much better. I'm going to buy it after like 2 days to see what people think of it but man they just went too Dead Cells on it, I obviously understand why it looks like the Netflix show since it was very popular and I can accept that but the gameplay is too modern. I do like that enemies can attack you while you're wailing on them and that they hit hard, same with the archers aimbotting on you. You're OP and the enemies are OP

Why not draw your idea anyway? In art, the idea is more powerful than the quality of the work itself. That's why a lot "sketch-like" drawings always become more popular than say a fully rendered drawing. Human error adds a lot more flavor to the piece than you'd expect.

I agree. but it's jewnami that is giving their IPs to other devs on a shoestring budget. they are doing the same shit with silent hill. it's on them to give the IP to JAPANESE devs. like other anons said, there are japanese indie devs like ladybug or inti creates (and many others) but they gave it to the dead cell devs. I loved dead cells and the devs clearly put their hearts into this project, but they have their style of gameplay/art. some anons spoke about the blasphemous devs having a pitch for castlevania too. I never played blasphemous, but their ninja gaiden was really solid. they would have been a better fit art style wise for sure. but this was konami's decision. I just find it unfair to shit so much on this game and devs. the game is not even out yet.

>For people calling the music generic name
Nobody is calling the music generic, they are calling it bad which it is.
>>
>>749036182
I didn't call them improvements, just modern aspects lots of gamers got accustomed to. I love classicvania, so I would never call the old games bad. but we all knew we wouldn't get a classic game here. even bloodstained, as much fun as it was had its shortcomings. Hollow knight has even too much influence for my taste. but the whole charm system for example is now everywhere. it makes you choose your prefered playstyle better, yes. but not every metroidvania has to go for this.
>>
>>749036437
>some anons spoke about the blasphemous devs having a pitch for castlevania too. I never played blasphemous, but their ninja gaiden was really solid
They made a DLC for blasphemous 2 that had amazing whip moveset and mechanics. Just incomparably better than what i saw in BC's demo.
>>
>just modern aspects lots of gamers got accustomed to
What the hell does that even mean? Bloodstained used legacy gameplay in 2019 and it sold millions of copies.

For real? Aw come on, that's a classic metroidvania map gimmick where you gain abilities to go back explorering around the hazard like Undine's Soul to walk on the surface or Deep Seeker/Serpent's Scale to walk on through the bottom floors of underwater/flooded sections.

Classicvania GODS what are we playing?

Currently trying to learn to 1CC X68000, I think this game is hugely underrated. Some people just call it a remake of CV1 but I see it as more of a director's cut, takes all the greatest pieces of CV1, adds on it, then ups the difficulty as a sort of "second loop" for those who mastered CV1.
>>
>>749043316

It's somewhat more of a remake than IV is, but it's still a very different game. Even the level concepts it reuses are often different in terms of layout, and a lot of levels and bosses are entirely new. I don't think of it as a remake.

I think the best case scenario for this game is that it's Dead Cells with more budget and don't fuck up other partws too hard. The worst case scenario is if they go too much with Netflix castlevania and modern audience shit.

I mostly agree. Like RGG reuses fucking everything, but they'll usually touch up some of the more dated stuff every console gen or so to make it less noticeable. The worst thing about a new Castlevania coming is shills going around pretending OoE, SoTN, and all the old games suck only to get heavy push back and then react in a disingenuous way like "see see, that's how it feels for a game to be unfairly hate". No you retards

I love those games but I'm not going to pretend anyone who talks about the games being faithful to any central school of thought for design while putting those ones on a pedestal isn't just a posturing, full-of-shit fanboy. I see more classicvania DNA in the relatively little we've seen of Belmont's Curse than I have through seven games and three gens of IGA's output. They reinvented the wheel then, they're doing it now, but now it's a big deal because chuds are still in their feelings over a Netflix series.

Should have hired Inti.
Or, hell, just get M2 again.
Make Inti make new Igavanias, and M2 (with some Inti support) make expanded Classicvanias.
Even if those are unavailable, I am sure there were better picks as far as westoids are concerned (WayForward comes to mind, even if their output plummeted in quality).
Why fucking Dead Cells random indie smucks of all people? Dead Cells is barely a Metroidvania and has nothing else going on that would tie it to Castlevaniia's DNA.

>>
>>749070920
Realistically you probably can't keep this shit up for more than a couple of games, though.
>>
>>749070873
The series never had any hard rules other than "Belmonts can't use the whip after Richter until 1999" so there's really no reason to reboot it.
>>
>>749071016
The other rule is "Dracula resurrects every 100 years (unless somehow forced to earlier)".
Most of these slots are already occupied and making him wake up every fucking decade would just be extremely silly. We also have witnessed both Dracula's birth and final death, so we only have the 1000-1999 timeframe to work with.
>>
>>749071089
That's not a rule dude. You even included a fucking excuse for it.
>>
>>749070873
Reject all attempts at a bespoke timeline, with only a few vague anchor events like SotN, or the Soma games happening at the end of everything. Beyond that just keep making new ones with the usual backdrop of the castle appearing every hundred years. Pay zero attention to the fact that at some point you don't have enough centuries to hold them all. Like full-fucking ignore and handwave the problem. Then you can broadly jump them around whenever you like across the middle ages, the Renaissance, the Victorian, or maybe even start walking it back toward the late/post-Roman Empire. When someone pops up and asks you how the timeline is supposed to work, you tell them to shut the fuck up and go whip some skeletons. This is not an alternate timelines scenario, or a realistic chronological order. It's a bunch of Castlevania games because we want Castlevania games.
>>
>>749071089
Dracula is also alive and just chilling in his castle brooding until CV3 when he finally snaps.
So realistically the actual feud is between 1400-1999. Making for 8 'legit' resurrections, with some breaks mid-century for reasons (we had two whole extra events right after CV3, 1 after Adventure, then 1.5 after CV1, 1 after Rondo, 1 after Bloodlines. Guess there could be one more after Ecclesia or something.
>>
>Rose completely rejected Leon's family motto and changed it because Leon is wrong and a sinner judged by St. Louis
>"The Belmont's will no longer hunt the night... they will show humanity the dawn"
Kino. I can't believe Leon Belmont is such a flaw and evil man that curses the entire bloodline
>>
>>749070873
I'm of the opinion that the story has kind of written itself into a corner. There's only so many time periods where a the feeling of a gothic vampire-hunting adventure really works, and they have crowded the absolute hell out of that range. Defeating Dracula barely even means anything when you know he's just gonna show up again in five to ten years anyway because some random evil cultist or whatever summoned him again. At this point Dracula is less of a "the legends are true?" sort of thing and more of what should be the number one priority of every government in Europe at all times.

A reboot might be necessary at some point, but I wouldn't really want a Subverted Expectations Reboot like LoS either. I guess you could maybe squeeze out one or two more Soma stories but I'll be honest I don't know how much more mileage we can get out of secret fake Dracula castles in the 2030s.
I dunno. Maybe do another something pre-Drac about a proto-Belmont fighting a completely unrelated vampire. Or retell an old story with a new Castle layout and bosses, sort of like how there's already several games retelling Castlevania 1.
>>
>>749071654
You could do a lot with post-Soma.
Have new evil lords with new things associated with them appearing.
Make a series of Alucard games investigating other paranormal activties. This guy is immortal and works with some secret societies or whatever.
Make fucking Golomoth invade Earth or something.
The magical world of Castlevania doesn't solely hinge on Dracula. It existed before him, and will exist after him.
That said, that doesn't really work by itself if you have a whole franchise to maintain. You can have all of that and make it good but you do need some parallel titles that do somehow maintain the old identity, otherwise things will just get weird and muddled and not have much to do with Castlevania.
>>
>>749071852
>The magical world of Castlevania doesn't solely hinge on Dracula.
It does. He's the linchpin of the series.
>>
>every personality traits that Rose is currently exhibiting, the brash, girlboss, anti authority personality is actually Dracula's curse.
>Rose is extremely irritable because of it
>At the end when she finally broke through that knto the Saints help, Leon said her personality has changed and he finally sees the real her
So why are we arguing about whether Rose personality is fitting or not when it's literally designed to be evil incarnate affecting her action
>>
>>749071852
I think you might be on to something with standalone Alucard adventures, but I just think that once you hit the era of modern weapons, cell phones, and computers, it becomes harder and harder to justify that against the series identity of fighting your way through a giant spooky stone castle with whips and swords.
>>
>>749071941
The initial lynchpin of the series was trying to parody/make a loving homage to old monster movies. Dracula just felt like a fitting final boss, as he was so prominent in those. Everything after CV3 is basically a reimagination of the canon in a way.
You can realistically picture Castlevania with each game having its own unique final monstrosity like The Phantom of the Opera or something.

>If the governments knew about this, realistically they'd just drop a nuke on the castle or something.
Evidence presented in AoS heavily suggests the governments knew and actively fought Dracula's forces during the event but dropping nukes was probably brushed off the table due to heavy consult with the Church stating that such action would only risk fallout to humanity and do nothing against Big Bad Batty himself. For Japan specifically the Hakuba Shrine Leaders probably convinced the powers that they could seal the Castle into the Eclipse and this was communicated to the UN before such measures would be deployed as a last resort.

Drac sounds like too much of a dick for that era of Dracula.
He should still be sympathetic even if mad between LoI and 3. Then go insane from grief and become monstrous after Lisa dies. Then regain some of his earlier embers of humanity during Rondo/Symphony. Then he makes peace with things by the end of SotN. Afterwards he is forcibly resurrected and is more or less a dark specter rather than Dracula's true soul.

Deedlit's game was better than all post SotN metrodvanias, including all Igavanias. It's the only game that feels like a true "successor" for SotN while also improving on its flaws. The only advantage those other games might have is more "content", or should I say, filler.
