>Finally, someone has developed a way to run PC games from Steam directly on an Android phone.I just gave it a try, and the biggest issue with this app isn’t actually performance—it’s the controls.Unless you connect an external gamepad to your Android phone, you’ll only be able to barely play visual novels.Plus, since Android phones don’t have cooling fans, the phone’s processor will quickly overheat and throttle down.3D games have very high cooling requirements.https://youtu.be/fqJ-iM_fTdQ?si=Wj9PhYGnOf9dNonOhttps://github.com/Droid-Deck/DroidDeck
It's not just an app—it's a hurdle.
The biggest issue with this app is actually the controls.Unless you want to try using virtual buttons to simulate a controller, you won't be able to play most games. You'll need a controller.
>>749014890This feels less like a finished product and more like a glimpse of where mobile gaming is headed.
This app also supports displaying game folders. You can install mods.If you need to.
GameNative is already a thing thobeit
>>749014890Thought it needed to overwrite or live alongside Android. It's just an App? Performance might take a big hit then?
>Finallyfeel like it's been a thing for some time. maybe i was just imagining it
>>749015065>It's just an AppAnother solution is to install Armada OS.This involves installing a Linux system on your device, which can provide higher frame rates and better compatibility. However, Armada OS is specifically customized for Android handheld gaming devices, so you can’t install it directly on your phone. Additionally, since it’s a standalone system, you’ll need to set up a dual-boot system on your device.Droid Deck, on the other hand, is just an app, so in theory, it can be installed on most Android phones powered by a Snapdragon processor.
>>749015332Already use GameHub but I'll keep an eye on this one, seems good.
>>749014890Is it really running the actual Steam OS distribution in an app? Or is it just running Steam OS on your form? If the former, how much of a performance hit does it take running in an app? I presume it runs apps in containers, but i dont actually know for Android.
>>749016940This app has a Linux desktop mode.It appears to be specifically designed for installing the Linux version of the emulator.
>>749014890I have literally never met a single person who prefers playing on mobile unless they're forced to or are underage.
>>749019065I don't usually play PC games on my phone. But if I need to go out, at least it lets me play anytime, anywhere.
>>749014890>>749014983>You'll need a controller.I mean, if you're going to be playing anything that isn't a mobile game primed for a phone to begin with, yeah I think you're going to want a controller so it doesn't totally suck ass to play. Or, y'know, just use this shit on a compatible chinkheld which seems to be the target in the first place.
>>749019369if you're on the road for months at a time or something, then sure. otherwise, I just don't see the point.
How does this differ from Game Native?
>>749019597>, I just don't see the point.Playing visual novels
I'll keep this in mind if i need to turn my phone into a diy hot plate
>>749019746>How does this differ from Game Native? It’s actually a PC emulator, modified from Winlator. This means it emulates the Android system as a Windows system and then runs PC games from that system.Droid Deck uses the ARM compatibility layer released by Valve. This means that, through the compatibility layer, Windows games are directly converted into a file format that the Android system can read. It’s similar to the x86-to-Linux compatibility layer on the Steam Deck.In theory, since it doesn’t need to emulate Windows, Droid Deck should offer better performance and compatibility. However, because the app is still in a very early stage of development, Winlator currently delivers a higher frame rate.
>>749016940
>>749015058It's vibecoded slop by an actual pajeet.
>>749020910>run android on my phone>emulate winlator through android>emulate steamos through winlator>run proton through steamos>emulate windows through proton>run game through windows
>>749014890
>>749014890>finally hereabsolutely nobody was holding their breath for the next handheld e-waste
>>749020910GameHub doesn't require login any more than GameNative does.
Just buy a Chinese attachment
>>749019746This is closer to how Valve does things officially. Steam Frame, Valve's new VR headset, uses smartphone hardware to run ARM version of SteamOS and Steam client with various compatibility layers like Proton and FEX. DroidDeck uses the official ARM Steam client and Proton that are also used by Steam Frame.
>>749014890>—thanks ChatGPT
>>749014890>—Didn't read, if you're too lazy to write your shit don't expect me to read it
>>749014890One good thing about this is that you actually get access to Steam Input.
I am charging my RP6. Will try it in a few minutes. I tried both Hub and Native but they were too jank. Hoping this is better.
>>749024650It's still jank, but different kind of jank.
Seems to be working alright for me, but I didn't try any super demanding games.
>>749026605I wouldn't try playing 3D games without a cooling fan.Because that could actually burn out my phone.
>>749014890how about you kys gpt cuck KYS
>>749027364Depends on your phone. There are 3D games and then there are 3D games.
>>749021342>WinlatorAndroid PC emulator Windows Steam PC games>Droid DeckAndroid ARM compatibility layer Steam PC games>Armada OSLinux Steam ARM compatibility layer PC games.Currently, Armada OS offers the best compatibility and performance.Since it is essentially Linux, it doesn’t require running the Android operating system. However, it is specifically tailored for certain devices, so it won’t work properly on the vast majority of Android phones.Furthermore, installing the system and switching between dual operating systems can be quite complicated.
Steam Link has always worked fine for my needs
What the fuck is this AI stroke thread.
So far I've tried >The Darkness 2 - didn't work.>Odallus - didn't work>RoR2 - Works okayIt's neat but I think I'll stick to streaming for 3d games.
>>749014890I tried it on AYN Thor. It's cool, it already supports the second screen letting you put the steam deck buttons there (not usually found on controller like the touch pads or L4/5) or keyboard and mousepad. Idk if Steamdeck screen is touch screen, but it let's me use the top screen's touch part too as mouse input, so good for towern defense/mouse only games too.>Unless you connect an external gamepad to your Android phone, you’ll only be able to barely play visual novels. There are a few games that runs with only mouse inputs too. Like slay the spire or tower tactics liberation>Plus, since Android phones don’t have cooling fans, the phone’s processor will quickly overheat and throttle down.>3D games have very high cooling requirements.Yeah, no shit, resource heavy titles just like on PC will make your SOC sweat.>>749014983Alternatively turn based games can still work, if they support mouse input as the touchscreen can act as mouse input.>>749014995yeah, 0.3 version. It's basicly beta or bleeding edge tech. Cool to see it's even possible and probably needs shitton of thinkering before the average person can use it. But there are games working better here than gamenative.>>749015058It's never bad to have multiple similar apps. This one works differently too, if i understood it right.>>749015065Seems like it's an app that let's you run something akin to steamdeck enviroment on your mobile. but i'm fucking dumbass when it comes to this stuffs. But it works well enough.>>749016940I'm not sure about performance hit, but Hyperdimension neptunia rebirth 1 run in a very choppy way in gamenative with no audio but in deckdroid it runs near flawlessly. I feel like i hear some audio oddities every now and then.>>749015683If there were games not running in GH, i recommend trying it here.
DRG on Retroid Pocket 6, 8gb. Fps obviously drops when things get hectic and the fan goes crazy but it works. I don't think you can play this on a regular phone without fans. It will get hot.
>>749029978>>749031347I'm currently using Armada OS on the Odin 3.It's the most effective solution available right now.The problem is that this OS is designed specifically for a few arm handheld , so it can't be installed on most smartphones.https://youtu.be/2fInQ69ODZ0?si=8Hl67OdgSJe2Pi0y
But imagine this. A native proton layer built into Mobile Steam App. Every phone turns into a steamdeck.
>>749032227Yeah. I seen this one, but for me it's a little bit more involved? I don't know how to put it in words. But i have to put it on SD card (i don't have an extra one around and i find it too expensive with recent price raises). My internet is also fucking shit. So for me droiddeck works out just a bit better for my use case. But if i had a second handheld like odin 3 or later O3 Portal, i would try armada on it.
>>749033045>But i have to put it on SD cardThat's not entirely true. The SD card is mainly used to store the installation files. You can definitely install Armada OS directly onto the handheld's internal storage. This is actually the better option, because the SD card's read speed is very slow, making it nearly impossible to play games properly.
>>749032938That would be the best-case scenario. But it all depends on whether Valve is actually willing to do it.Right now, they're wasting most of their time on that new VR headset.
>>749033818>You can definitely install Armada OS directly onto the handheld's internal storage.Yeah. I know that part too. I just already have the emulators set up. Half of them know how to do cloud saving too (to google drive). So i don't really want to clean my Thor and replace or dual boot Armada. If my net speed was somewhat more usable, maybe i fuck around with it. But gamenative or droiddock currently fits my needs better.
>>749032938But that's exactly what DroidDeck is. Native ARM64 Steam Client with native ARM64 Proton.
gamenative/gamehub already existremember to get the apks directly and not the gay app store versions. why? because the apks support actual loading custom games and custom drivers. app store doesnt allow you to do this by rules.
>>749035454but its not made by gaben personally
>>749019065ur old
>>749032938>>749035707Broad Vulkan 1.3-1.4 support on phones isnt there yet. Valve doesnt want be the guy that fixes other peoples phone drivers. They already have their hands full fixing AMD drivers on Linux.
>as pc gaming turns more retarded tiers of expensive anon's start to turning phones and android devices into small but great affordable steam decksAh atlast some hope in this hellhole called modern gaming.
>>749014890Is this the most indian way of gaming?
>>749036147no, it requires 100 Iq minimun to do all of the steps to replace the OS
>>749036147casino gaming
>>749014890No the biggest problem is performance. It's less than half the speed of GameNative with properly-chosen settings.
>>749036592And this isn't a "GameNative is good" thing, it's that it lets you pick exactly the configuration you want and find what works best. OP's app just lets you pick which version of Proton you want, which will help determine if games run at all but not if they run well.
I'm so exited of a future without x86
>>749036592I'm not seeing huge difference in performance. What game and what device?
>>749014890phones are for taking calls not playing videogames this was made for chinkhelds.
>>749038495Modern chinkhelds are just phones with controllers glued onto them.
>>749038710wrong
>not running steam deck on a low 9 second carNGMI ICEssies
>>749038751he's not wrong.they take a phone, gut out the 4g/5g, put it in a custom mold and flash custom firmware.
I've been messing with this on my Ayn Thor and RP Nova the past two days. There are games that Gamenative shit the bed with that DroidDeck handles flawlessly. It's still way too buggy to fully replace it though.
>>749014890>3D games have very high cooling requirements. What about older 3D games? Say I wanted to play HL2 or Portal.
>>749014890>Unless you connect an external gamepad to your Android phone, you’ll only be able to barely play visual novels. You see the screenshot you posted? The image on top? That's the sort of device you're supposed to use this for, with built in controls. Who the fuck wants to play PC games on their phone?
>>749021993Fuck, if I had a dedicated android gaming device, I'd call it Droidecka to play into the soundalike.
>>749022331Which handheld is this?
>>749029978So what's the most visually impressive game you can run witihout baking your handheld? Can it run Crysis?
>>749039636Ayn Thor
>>749039707I didn't try that as i dislike playing fps with controlleer even with aim assist. But .//hack, darksiders warmastered too run without issues. I know both are old games. But i don't have any recent impressive looking graphical game. But you can check odin 2 (portal) or Thor videos on youtube. Even something like cyberpunk can run. My primary target will be old games with controller support like the Neptunia franchise or maybe Brutal legend to get through my backlogs. I keep the more visual and graphically impressive ones for my pc.
>>749039729How's performance on it with PC games? How hot does it get?
>>749040074Depends on how you run them. Gamenative,/Winlator, Armada, and now DroidDeck all have different performance. Based off what I've played, I'd ballpark it at 3/4 the power of a Steam Deck, but really you're best off lookup up benchmarks of what you're interested in playing. It's a popular device, so there's plenty out there.
>>749022331crazy times we live in
>>749035708I thought I covered that with >or are underage.
>>749022331heh
>>749014995>and more like a glimpse of where mobile gaming is headed. It's more a glimpse where all consumer hardware is heading. ARM for all, performance hits of translating X86 instructions be damned.
>>749040582Crazy what? That a modern game handheld can play a game built for 20yo hardware?
>>749043208yes
>>749014890Do games run better than on GameNative?
