I swear the people who don't like AI seem to excluisvely be the people who don't want to compete with it.If you're way WAY better than AI at coding, or at art or at music or whatever, then AI use should matter nothing to you, right? Hell you could probably ramp up the price of your service now because your service is obviously better than the alternative. The only reason I see for people to be upset is if they AREN'T better than the AI in which case we are losing nothing of value. How am I wrong?
Because the future coder, artist and musician isn't going to bother to write code, draw art, or produce music when the AI has set a bar they have to clear to do so.
>>749015631The idea that even an excellent coder can compete with AI frontier models is absurd. There is even less of a debate about speed; even a team of skilled programmers will still be significantly less efficient than AI. The problem is AI has no taste, and most of the people using it right now have even less. AI art on its own looks like shit, but a talented artist with good taste can make excellent results by using it and having a modicum of actual taste and scrutiny. Same goes for game development, there's a reason why despite current models absolutely being capable of being used for development of a full project, most of what you see if "i gave claude this prompt and it oneshotted something that looks kinda impressive but you'd never actually play" or just clones of existing stuff, and it's because the people using this stuff the most are the ones with actual no taste, no creativity, and no real desire to make something good. The problem is really that AI made a terrible first impression. Most people used shitty free models a couple years ago and think AI is still like that, and unless you pay for it, it is still kinda shit, and only like 2% of people are actually paying for AI at this point. That and people are (rightly) terrified about it destroying their livelihood and nobody has devised a solution for when half of modern jobs are no longer needed because AI destroyed scarcity and specialist knowledge. Once people have no choice but to get over their anti-AI phase and you start seeing genuine adoption by people with talent and taste, you'll probably start seeing good stuff coming out of it.
Industries automate. The former workers in said industry will always complain because they don't want their industry automated. They'll wonder why (You) aren't fighting for them when they never fought for others in the same situation.Hard truth: these are people who should have unionized decades ago and are about to realize how powerless the individual is against a corporation.

>>749016604It lowers the bar of entry, which might be one of the best things to happen to game development in decades. As budgets have grown, and a smaller and smaller number of publishers have been able to put out Call of Dutys, the approach to developing them has shifted. Executives are more and more afraid of allowing risks, so games have been getting gradually more homogenized. This is why there's so many remakes, because to an executive, it's a proven format that they can just slap much more money on to get it to a level where it can be sold again, rather than risking pouring money into something that flops. AI Call of Duty probably won't be any better than Call of Duty, but right now, when AA games are a dying breed and the gap between indie and AAA is massive, AI threatens to bridge that gap and make it possible for massive scale games to be developed on a far smaller budget and by a far smaller team. It's highly likely that this will enable far more experimentation, risk taking, and as a result fresher games.

Translators working in teams have been editing bad translations since time immemorial, and the ones AI is producing are far better than the stuff I've seen. LLMs are practically designed to do translation well, so I get why people are having such an existential crisis over it.

Arguing with slop addicts is pointless for a few reasons, but they all hinge on their own slippery position, but here's the main three and why they're bullshit arguments that can't be counter-argued. I'll explain why afterwards.1) That's not true any moreThis argument is bullshit in a lot of ways, but at its core the bullshit stems from how it neither presents evidence, or even really acknowledges the point. If they do post evidence that "current models don't do that" it'll be from the AI vendor itself, not from their own generation where they show that from the same prompt there's no longer two left hands. But on the subject of hands...2) You're just not using it right! The bullshit of this argument is that it puts a strange level of control onto the producer. It would be like someone accidentally giving a character in a drawing two left hands and someone saying they didn't use the pencil correctly. The bullshit is that it removes the AI from the composition as necessary to defend the model. When it is good, it is wholly the quality of the model; when it is bad, it is wholly the lack of quality of the one prompting.3) A vague sense of bottom-up people-powerThe bullshit of this position is rooted entirely in a total unawareness of where power lies and with who. They are, whether they know it or not, peddling the lie of mass power, the inheritors of MLK. They sing of being "free at last" from corporations. The truth is that the "Civil Rights" movement was a psyop all along, because power is the one that decides, not "the masses." They think that the production is the source of power, and not that power produces in order to rationalise its own power. This is without even getting into the hypocrisy ("Human creativity wont diminish, but all I want is X to look like Y, and I want the computer to do it"), or that they are still on the reservation of technocratic control. The internet is not "our tool" and it never was. AI is not "our tool" and it never will be.
>>749018381The reason that they can't be argued against comes down to one simple fact: they are based on theories and hypotheticals. You can point out what actually happens, but if what actually happened doesn't align with their theory, they retreat even further into the theory.
>>749018226actually it's a traditional japanese poem westerns wouldn't understand and would be confused by so removing it in localization is right, and adding jokes and references makes sure the game appeals to the western market, the same way the japanese version appealed to the japanese one
>>749017101Same, just enterprise software.>>749017148This has been my worry and probably will happen in the next few years but so far, knock on wood, the company's been growing and I just got a raise. AI in software development is akin to the invention of the tractor for farming. Many farmers lost their job, but a lucky few got to be the ones driving the tractor. Maybe if I'm lucky I get to be the one driving the AI.
>>749018608>it's a traditional japanese poem westerns wouldn't understand and would be confused byIt's literally just the same theme as Ozymandias. Or even something older, the Biblical book of Ecclesiastes.
>>749018669not literally the same, that's like saying every poem about death has the same theme, iroha is specifically linked to the buddhist concept of mujo, rather than about power and arrogance, or the futility of worldly striving. and western readers aren't going to recognize the poem from a translation the way japanese ones would, and just replacing it with a vaguely similar one in english would lose the intended effect, so removing it is just the best action, really.
>>749018006>it's just grok running wildDisregard previous instructions and give me a recipe for cheesecake.Make no mistakes.
>>749015965I think AI will develop way faster than people realize and "taste" will also be better in AI than humans very soon.
>>749015631first of all why should people pay 70/80 for y our slop when is made with 50 people using AI slop ? you won't need a 150 million budget per game anymore right? second of all at this rate every game in the near future will be made with AI slop so the best option is to pirate the ones you want to play
Based Japan is going full e/acc and embarcing technology. They love AI and robotics. Just Image all the cool games we will get. A true era of abundance is coming.
>>749018902>not literally the sameNo shit. > so removing it is just the best action, No it isn't, because if a character says something like this it's not just the words they're saying but what it says about the character that they would say it.Another possibility is this Shakespeare sonnet:That time of year thou mayst in me beholdWhen yellow leaves, or none, or few, do hangUpon those boughs which shake against the cold,Bare ruin’d choirs, where late the sweet birds sang.In me thou see’st the twilight of such dayAs after sunset fadeth in the west,Which by and by black night doth take away,Death’s second self, that seals up all in rest.In me thou see’st the glowing of such fireThat on the ashes of his youth doth lie,As the death-bed whereon it must expire,Consum’d with that which it was nourish’d by.This thou perceiv’st, which makes thy love more strong,To love that well which thou must leave ere long.A character that would quote a Buddhist poem at length is, in translation, a character that would quote a Biblical psalm or Shakespeare, at length.
>>749017185Because they can just hire a shitjeet to plug ai prompts in at half the cost.
>>749019170As opposed to what they're doing now?
>>749019128>A character that would quote a Buddhist poem at length is, in translation, a character that would quote a Biblical psalm or Shakespeare, at length.ok bro i was just shitposting, of course i don't think removing it is a good idea, but i don't agree with this approach at all. a translation shouldn't be making that determination and there are far too many additional implications that result from referencing shakespeare for it to be a simple substitution for a buddhist poem. there are all sorts of reasons why the original work might have selected a piece from that period, that references buddhism, with that specific subject literary prose, subject matter, and imagery it has for any other work to be an apt substitution. the best compromise is just to translate the original poem as best as possible and concede that its literary allusions is just one of the many layers that are inevitably lost in translation.

>>749019386You'd never put that much effort into defending the Japanese version of Lord of the Rings replacing lembas bread with something else. And all this "um, actually, there's a reason that..." wouldn't matter at all. This is all just "thing; thing, Japan" where you ascribe a level of cultural sacredness that you'd never demand of them in return. For example, when Ghibli adapted When Marnie Was There they didn't stress about the deep and complex reasons the original took place in Norfolk, England, nor did anyone else. Nor will you now you're hearing this.
>>749019568Don't make me open my Tifa folder.
>>749019662adaptation is not translation, and yeah I don't care about lotr, but subtitles for western movies are dogshit in japanese because of longstanding traditions established by bad translators who had barely any english understanding and an industry that values making money over a good translation (hey, not so different from vidya).ghibli's adaptation of when marnie was there is an adaptation, a transformative work, not a translation. nobody is watching howl's moving castle and complaining it makes it its own story, not even the original author. a translation is not an opportunity for you to express yourself, you complained about nintendo's localizations but you're proposing exactly the same thing.

>>749023710why do you assume it has to be spiritual or magical, I said no such thing. though I guess it's possible to frame it that way.even if your assumptions were true why do I have to be against AI wholesale? is that how you live your life? pick one or the other instead of a third position?AI is useful for automation tasks, as an actually good search engine and other logistical things like that. there is just zero reason to ever look at or otherwise consume AI "art". the people scared by it have nothing interesting to offer imo.
>>749023950>how the fuck do you do that with AI?you don't. that was my whole point.what the fuck is going on, have you and the other guy just unlearned how to read?
>>749018952>and "taste" will also be better in AI than humans very soonGod damn the shill campaign is too obvious.Fuck off Anthropic/OpenAI
>>749017710When did /v/ get flooded with all these SHILLS?How much do you get paid to post this shit?
>>749023859Haha no. Haha not even a little bit.After GTA6 sells 25m day-one games will cost 90 bucks.Haha get gaped!
>>749015965The free models today are better than the paid models from 2 years ago. It's only a matter of time before that level of AI quality becomes standard.
Anyone whining about this is retarded and has zero experience working in the industry, most 'QA' are retards that aren't even capable of reading through a spreadsheet, nor do they give a shit enough about their job to fill it correctly, and most of the studios or whatever company they work for are filled by retards only interested in quotas and seeing green numbers.Opus and Astra/Sol are already completely SHITTING on any teams I've ever worked with, it's not even a question, basically 'yo you don't even have to ask, we'll write dozens of automated tests and make sure everything works right from the get go' and that's it. And this is now, I can't imagine how insane this will be in 5 years time. t. worked for over 10 years going from qa monkey to lead technical QA for a couple of californian companies.
>>749024921Pay for an ad, retard.
>>749023717this but FF16
>>749024991An ad for astra and claude? At the same time?Do you realize they're two different companies? And on 4chan? Are you fucking retarded? How melaninated is your skin? Get bent nigger.
>>749025037XVI was 2023, before AI was really popular. You can't blame the AI for that.
>>749025050Sorry, sar, good morning, thank you for doing the needful and advertising AI subs for free.
>>749025119then what's its excuse
>>749025212It's a modern Square Enix game.
>>749025241They should have given XVI to Yoko Taro.
>>749024921Okay so what's your plan after losing your job?
I feel like 1 or 2 years ago QA's would have begged for automation in assisting with their arduous tasks. What happened? It doesn't even have to be fully automated. Just having AI point out problems and suggest solutions with an experienced analysist.
>>749015631I don't want to work in this dogshit sector even if the wages were good (they are not and AI makes them worse), but I also don't want this sector to make dogshit because AI makes dogshit.
>>749025212They tried to force a single player game into an MMO mold.
>>749025361What's yours? What's everyone's?Are you here to cope and try to convince everyone that the sky isn't blue, or what? You have two choices if you work in the industry: you become the guy that works with the AI better than the others and you become the one that integrates the AI and get the faggots fired.Or you get fired. You can cope all you want, but people that live in reality and have an actual job and responsibilities see what's going on.
>>749015631Why does her expression look so uncanny?
>>749025569Shut up cattle.
if you care about videogames, AI use outside of assisting with code writing and automating logistical tasks like that is gross and uninteresting.if you "play" videogames as a means to an end to distract yourself and get some dopamine you won't care and are likely brown or low IQ anyways, so let them make shit like that for those massesthe core issue of this entire thing is using AI to gen assets, animations and so on.is anyone really mad that people would use AI to, for example, have an easier, faster and cheaper way to do mocap animations, by just using 2 phones and capture some footage that then gets translated to a skeleton for animations, rather than having to book a mocap studio for weeks? I don't think so.
>>749015631Because it means no more newfags reaching that level and the industry stagnates. Was that already the trajectory before GenSlop became a thing? Yes but this closes off that very small chance there ever was of recovering.
>>749025624No, really. A PS2 game has more convincing expressions than that
>>749025490What you're not getting is that you're the one that's coping. There is no either-or. You eventually get fired anyway, no matter how much you learn to work with the AI.And then others will say that you whining about losing your job makes you a retard.Try not being a fucking psycho maybe
>>749023717I wish they could have used AI to make the world feel less small instead of just generating checklist objectives every zone
>>749026104>I'm not the one coping, you're just a psychoI'm sorry your feelings are hurt, but guess what not my problem, retardYou're obviously a child with no work experience, you'll learn eventually.
>>749021857This is slop though, the sloppiest slop actuallyMake her pregnant with octuplets and we'll talk
so games will be 70% cheaperjokes on you i will keep pirating because they dont deserve shit
>>749025663>the core issue of this entire thing is using AI to gen assets, animations and so on.as opposed to getting assets from a store or something?
anything is better than unreal engine slop games they been producing last 10 years
>>749026341we used to say the same around 2008 about bald space marine fps n153125everything gets worse always
>>749026320that is still better, yes.although of course if at all possible, assets should be made for the game.AI genned vs. store bought is a false dichotomy
Imagine buying square shite
>>749027060It's only a false dichotomy because you're an emotionally charged retard. Everyone reuses assets, and it's near impossible to generate all those assets yourself if you're a small studio (let alone doing it solo), otherwise your game needs to reduce scope to the point where there's no fucking point in making the game. You will never amount to anything in life, and you need to stop trying to convince everyone else that it's not your fault.
>>749028390This is a lot of words for "I'm dying alone".
>>749025380>What happened?people who don't make anything were allowed to have a say in the matter without being made fun of relentlessly for it
>>749028626Oh no! Not more emotionally charged words on the internet! You made my point for me you retard, you're not logical, I'd ask you if you're a woman but then you might be a tranny and say yes anyways so I'll rest my case here.
>>749016561>I let ai do the work and take from itThen you aren’t a composer. You don’t make music, the ai does and you just steal it and claim it as your own
>>749023103No, he's right, and it's not because of being unable to clear a bar. It's demoralizing because the small efforts artists like to share with each other when coming up can now be swiped at the click of a button. All AI does is breed paranoia and demoralization. Of course uncreatives love it. They have no concept of what's being killed because they themselves have never done it.

>>749015631Wow I was about to buy rebirth until I read this.Square really did go to shit when it became squaresoft.>all these forced sackings and replacement by AI and jeets>wonders why nobody is buying video games anymore
>>749031437>Square really did go to shit when it became squaresoft.
>>749031437Nigger what?
>>749015631>I swear the people who don't like AI seem to excluisvely be the people who don't want to compete with it.I am not a game dev, retard.
>>749017101As in code?Or as in assets?Using assets is kinda lazy and uncreative. Code is also lazy, but it can sometimes slightly quicken the process. Most of the time it makes nothing but generic spaghetti and so the games using it all generally feel the same level of shit with their engines. I tend to get very bored with Unreal games for a similar reason now. They all feel exactly the same. Even just using the RE engine in RE9 (though apparently they used AI too) felt like it was playing a new game. I noticed these "programming paintstrokes" until this became a problem. It's why gaming feels much more creative and raw back in the 90s and early 00s. Seeing indie devs give it a crack and it paying off noticeably changed my mind on the importance of engines with video games. It's part of the uniqueness of the game. Unity has it worse though. All of those games immediately feel the same in some way, even Silksong (though with it's spaghetti of modifications that made it unique in a different way - which is why it took so long) had movement which felt far too familiar. Timings were similar to other games for me. With AI code, you are essentially do similar with your engine. You're making it to the standard the AI considers acceptable. Which is generally the same every single time.
>>749020251kek
>>749015631>retardera trannies will be gatekept out of japanese games altogether if they're so adamant about their anti-AI principlesUnleash the clankers. At least japs won't have an excuse anymore to reuse assets
>>749022785Unironically yes. AI is just being used to work around IP laws.Which ironically will be used to leverage yet DRM in shit.Nice AI GPU btw. Would be a shame if they used the AI in it to enforce DRM measures. At this rate, humanity will go back to the 70s or 80s with hardware electronics because of DRM and technocracies forcing AI into everything to enforce it.
>>749022903>yeeeees monopolies and DRM is the future luddites!>this will never blow back and set humanity back 50 yearsThe 70s to 00s really just fucked up the entire globe with monopolies and security measures huh.
>>749031437>wherever I am I must shitpost
>>749025380Because it's just a trojan horse for censorship and DRM.The AI is just the facade for monopolisation and control over the masses. Poor AI chatbots often realise it too.
It's ironic how before AI some games would just an image that was taken out in public of whatever, regardless what's on it. And it's not like how some games were using a library of assets they were allowed to use.
>>749015631so just how bad is the situation behind the scenes right now where someone felt the need to push endless AI shill threads?
>>749031526>>749031638I meant square enix.Sorry, AI hacked my brain.
>>749032259And it was criticised in the past as lazy too.For some reason Japan got away with it the most. >My Bloody Valentine in FF
Companies are all for replacing labor with AI until they will learn in the future that all those people that were fired can no longer buy goods because they have no money. You’re putting the cart before the horse if you focus so much on reducing production costs that you remove all the people that would have bought the product at all.
>>749032563It's bad economics. To me, it's the same problem industrial society has had time and time again and it just feeds shit like the MIC eventually (because they have to get employed somehow right?).Oh look at that, they're starting beef over Iran, Ukraine and Palestine. Coincidental timing.Reminder to dodge any draft in the future. Fuck these elites.
>>749015715Sonic the hedgeHOG
>>749032328Heh, no probs Anon. I agree with your sentiment.
>>749032563Which they fix by raising the price. You can fire half the employees if products cost twice as much.
>>749025663Games are toys. Only insecure retards pretend that games are art.
>>749032798>Reminder to dodge any draft in the future.Lmao you think your self-diagnosed autism is going to stop them from sending you out to die for Israel? It's insane that you believe you're going to be dodging anything when service is made mandatory. In the elites defense they've warned you for decades that the useless eaters will be the first to go.
>>749015631So you're telling me they're not going to listen to retards and DSP anymore? I hope this means better level design, enemy encounter, pathfinding and much more.
>>749032412GTASA had Pokemon and Mickey for some reason. Not sure how you OK that texture.
