Out of curiosity, I looked up a flight sim controller.
Do any of you actually use that type of controller?
Is it fun?
>>
>>749016878
No. I started playing Ace Combat on the PS2
>>
Pretty disappointed by the soundtrack this time around. Ace Combat 7 clearly had development struggles but the ost was great.
This one has that generic hollywood background music going on. Nothing came close to something like daredevil. Let alone anything from zero.

>game finally acknowledged that some aircraft have two seats
>you even actually get in the second seat sometimes
>for the rest of the game, whenever you use aircraft with two seats, the second seat is never acknowledged again
how much sense would it make for there to be another character that sits with you in 2 seat planes (and wont be with you in 1 seat planes), and are the japanese willing to do anything about that or are they just not gonna bother
>>
>>749017181
Not bad for our silly little niche plane game. I was expecting around 25k peak
>>
>>749016878
Ace Combat is at a weird spot between flight sim and arcade where you can benefit from a special controller but it's not necessary to play the game well at all

People do it because it appeals to the fantasy of being a fighter pilot rather than someone sitting at home
>>
>>749017219
I half expected the WSO to be a character just to give them an excuse for Cope to have a "physical" presence, like the WSO would be a quiet guy so you'd just see Cope there instead
>>
>>749017219
I like to think they were testing the waters by trying out a few ideas from PW in 8, and in 9 they'll finally do the big one and give you a WSO.
>>
>>749017181
I just hope they can shit out an amazing campaign DLC like they did for 7. Possibly even a quick shorter game like 5->0 pipeline
>>
They're working themselves into a corner. General Resorces absorbed Enso ehoch puts GR closer to being a megacorp. AC9 will have to either go back in time or remake AC3

Would you want to see AC9 go back to the usual documentary/fragmented story style or stick with the 1st person storytelling in AC8?
>>
>>749017517

>>
>>749017517
The first person storytelling had a very thematic point to make (you can only believe something you see with your own eyes)
I completely expect this is going to be used differently in AC9 (you cannot believe something you see with your own eyes)
>>
>>749017453
>With a kill count well over 30
Disgusting slander. It's at least well over 300
>>
>>749017368
I'm pretty hopeful we'll get a quicker turnaround for the DLC and stuff like that because Project Aces merged with one of the bamco support studios for that exact purpose
I think an AC9 (assuming it's fully into the AC3 era) will take longer if they want to return to that aesthetic
>>
>>749017517
I just hope they try something different
One of the strengths of the PS2 series was how they were all told in different ways, helped make each of them feel special
Also the different kinds of soundtracks but after 7 it seems like they've kept that in mind

final mission should have revealed that there was a actually a 4th land battleship

it burrowed a large tunnel underneath where the endurance is and is planning to suicide bomb itself

but before it can do that, it has to surface in the general area of the endurance

Their railguns seem to be smaller caliber than a Stonehenge cannon, but if the Bird let its APS down for a second I'm pretty sure it'd be destroyed
We have seen the Arsenal Bird laser slice through boats but landships seem to have tougher armor than that
In a situation where the landship can't just roll into the space elevator and knock over its main power supply, I suppose the Arsenal Bird could just gently rub its APS shield over the landship and cook its insides

7's DLC confirmed that the superpilots that seem to appear in every war are identifiable in-universe
that's what he should've focused on if he wanted peace, finding the fighter pilots with CHIM and pulling every string to put them under PKF or something

I sometimes forget that Swordsman and Grimm exist in 5. Chopper at least has his music and his death. Nagase and Bartlett are the only fleshed out squadmates, and one isn't even with you for 90% of the game.

Ace encounters are triggered by doing specific things in missions, they are entirely independent of difficulty or replaying.

I still believe Harling never wanted the Arsenal Birds to be built to "protect" the elevator if we take that painting Rosa and Co. saw where there were no Arse Birds, only Space Elevators, but the current Osean administration or some other group basically forced it onto him.
Like what kind of structure for "peace" needs two gigantic murderdrones that have a patrol range that goes deep into fucking Erusea, and the only way to control or hijack the damn things is by invading the elevator itself?

And then the then-current king and heirs were killed in a car crash, leading them to panic and track down the nearest relation: some rando tailor and his daughter.
The new king proved to be pretty spineless and easily manipulated by the Young Erusean Officers, while Princess Rosa happened to have a talent for public speaking, a cute face, and... not much else to be honest, the girl wasn't super sharp.
Rosa naturally became the face of Erusea, combining royal grace with a distinct down-to-earth demeanour borne from her middle-class upbringing. She did such a good job at being a Propaganda Princess that she managed to have half the world supporting Erusea's bullshit even after it engaged in an actual war crime with its perfidious surprise attack on Osea via disguised drone launchers aboard civilian ships.
She ended up copping the blame for the war going sideways and was nearly killed by the Radical faction for it. The Radicals that STARTED THE WAR THEY WERE LOSING. Goddamn retards. They managed to kill her dad back in Farbanti, leaving her as the only representative of the royal family left.

Anyway after all that is said and done, it turned out that the Erusean constitution forbade women from taking the throne. They refused to change it, so they ended up being a Republic again, while Rosa went off to run a refugee support foundation that also happened to control the Space Elevator and its power supply, which she seems to have kept going pretty competently.

the internet was created as away to preserve communications under attack, so that there is no weakpoint, if A wants to talk to B, you'd have to destroy EVERY possible path for the two to connect
An actual working decentralized autonomous organization would be just that, but not for just communication but the chain of command itself. An organization you can't destroy piecemeal, you have to take it all out simultaneously.
A functioning DAO would be superweapon. Like a skynet that doesn't just replicate onto other computers, part of it is hidden away inside human heads.

so it was Belkans, Enso was just a node in a larger graph, a valuable node that was worth expending all those resources to try and preserve it, but just a node nonetheless

I can't remember if the mission is carrier restricted, but all the midgame planes are maneuverable and fast enough for it, starting with the super Hornet with qaams and enough speed to stick to its ass for gunning.
Catching up to the planes is also a lot more dependent on the trajectory you take while chasing, trying to follow their high g maneuvers is a fools errand when you can follow slightly behind and point your nose at where they'll be as opposed to where they're at right now.
I'm pretty sure the mission is doable with the starting f14, though obviously not comfortable.

>>749026672
I'd argue the E Super Hornet is the best aircraft for that mission. 6AAM plus QAAM is a particualy potent combo against the bombers. And as you said, raw speed is less important than predicting their flight paths and cutting turns to close distance easier. Somehow I got S rank on my first attempt using the F Super Hornet with only 4AAMs.

The only bad entries in the franchise are Assault Horizon and Advance. Everything else is decent. Generally the best way to do it is just go AC4 to AC5 to ACZ to AC6 to AC7 and finally AC8. You can throw X in there at some point. Assault Horizon Legacy, despite the name, is a remake of AC2. Throw AC3 Fan translation in there if you are comfortable with playing something older because setting wise the franchise is still heading towards AC3.

IIRC, only attacker aircraft can actually hit the launch site and control centre, so you can ignore the Fishbeds and F-16s. The only ships are the two small fleets that appear at the start, once those are gone you can swap to pure A2A. Plus the EW aircraft trivialise A2A, since the ESM turns your regular missiles into weak-but-rapidfire QAAMs.

I'm just glad that it validated my feelings that 7 was a bit off. I liked 7 but it was subtly off in a way I can't really describe. I was willing to just chalk it up to me being older, but 8 feels like it's properly a return to form and if anything I'm more miserable and jaded than I was when 7 released.
It still isn't able to overcome my nostalgia for the old ones but that's fine, I wasn't expecting it to.

If you haven't played the PS2 trinity, do so as soon as you can. If you can find a physical copy or a modded PS2, play them this way but emulators are also good enough to play them but you have to do some messing with the settings to get some graphics/stutters to work properly. X is pretty good and the easiest to emulate since PPSSPP needs little setting up. Joint Assault is serviceable but weak on the story and despite being set in the real world, it's just as wacky as normal AC.

I thought Purple Magic needed to appear in one more mission before dying, it felt like they were trying to speedrun character development for Coster that barely ended up mattering since he doesn't lock in or really do much of note until Baxter's death.

Torres was implied to be a "singularity" because the AI could not figure out who'd win when he and Trigger met. Torres is written to be a kind of dark mirror to Trigger (score obsessed, has a crew that'd gladly die for him but he misleads them for his own ends, just wants to shoot shit like a psycho)
Torres' crew were essentially enraptured in a cult of personality around the master submarine captain who just wanted to shoot cool railguns for lols, everything he says is just excuses which is why he's a good villain, he's like those people who make "human safaris" in warzones like the balkans but worse cause he's got nukes and is actually good at shooting

The issue with multiple teams making games at around the same time to release them quicker is that teams do not talk to each other, and that means one title might have features that the other doesn't. The Sotoans give the vibe of being hard-carried by mechanised support, especially from their battleships. When they don't have railgun barrages over the horizon slapping people's shit, they fold pretty easily.

Sublimation is a huge meme, it has never been portrayed in a good light. Dision hated it and even mocked Cynthia for thinking it's some kind of paradise.

I replayed PW, this time mercenary difficulty. Wow, now I remember why I quit the game after finishing the campaign. The final boss and the end are terrible. Overall PW is worse than I remember. Missions are too repetitive, too many enemies, too few enemy types.

Multiplayer is full of niggercattle that can't win games for shit, playing assault, and instead of going after ground targets/air targets, and then after players, they B-line towards the players, get fucked, and we all lose on score, because I'm the only one going for everything else.

>what kind of structure for "peace" needs two gigantic murderdrones

true peace is an unachievable concept, some time some day if you have something nice and someone else doesn't, they will try to take it from you
the only way to achieve peace is to arm yourself with the biggest stick to protect it
we live in the most peaceful era in history simply because everyone is armed to the teeth
>>
>>749031967
Well, that could help the plot, no? You fly your plane with someone sublimated into it who was forced to fight with you, but eventually you get on their side to try and find a way to reverse it or something idk.

Nothing makes you hate ace combat more than playing ace combat
>>
>>749032107
I used to struggle with that. Recently I took my Foxbat into a match and just launched Fox 3's at enemy players from far away. I'd turn around and make another pass and never get close to anything. I got like 40k points swatting players and won the match. It's hard to kill players in dogfights but when you're far away they assume the missile warning is some dumbass SAM that won't connect lol.
>>
>>749031992
PW is good for an indie dev's attempt at making Ace Combat, but by that same measure it lacks a lot of polish you'd normally expect from Ace Combat. Plus being able to bring two SpW in AC8 takes away one of PW's strong points (and technically you could run two SpWs all the way back in Joint Assault, but that game sucks).

I believe the battle pass system is where they plan to distribute DLC planes depending on how long they plan to support the online mode (but maybe you will be able to just buy past battle passes too?) but you can unlock skins through the online mode that you can use on your single player planes too.

The multiplayer isn't terrible, if you are adverse to playing with any form of direct PvP the co-op assault mode are basically just glorified score attack missions that you "compete" for score but in practice the score and rankings are easy to ignore, and the 8 player boss battle missions you get to do are pretty fun, and this is from someone who usually avoids multiplayer modes. You can upgrade your planes in multiplayer to levels of performance greater than what you can accomplish in the campaign too so it's a fun little casual sandbox for when you want to play with just your favorite planes.
>>
I can't even play the game because easy anti cheat sharted itself and now won't let the game launch
