All I play are VNs. Outside of video games (i.e. VNs), I read books.

you are a real gamer that knows what he wants and takes no shit from others
I bet you are an interesting person with a lot of cool stuff to tell

I still haven't thought of the words for it but over the decades I noticed that there's people who only enjoy playing a very narrow slice of what the medium has to offer and don't even appreciate what sets video games apart from other mediums.

then there's people who are really deep into the medium, play all kinds of genres, are curious about innovation and what happens behind the curtain. they care about the industry, about gamedev and game design, about publishers and play everything from obscure indie titles to AAA games, from old atari games to the newest games.

I just don't know how to call each group. casual Vs hardcore doesn't really apply because someone who plays an MMO all day isn't by definition a casual gamer but still is part of the first category .

I guess you could borrow from cinema again and call them ludophiles, the analogue to cinephiles.

EU5, Darktide, Cataclysm TLG. Also played a bunch of Mechwarrior 5 modded for extra autism this year and Songs of Syx with the anime girl mod.

I also have EU5 (i have almost all paradox games), so our taste is quite similar. How's Darktide? I've been interested to try it but i'm intimidated by the gorillion DLCs, are they cosmetic only or do they add mechanics? As for Cataclysm TLG, it's the first time i hear about it.

Oh, okay. I just thought you were German because of that meme about Germans coming home from work and then playing a work simulator.

The only Darktide DLC that matters are the classes. Arbitrator, Hive Scum and Skittari. They matter only if you plan on playing them. It's a very janky game but I do like it. The beginning is piss boring since there aren't enough enemies to go around and you have no gear or skills to play around with. The game gets fun when you get a character to level 30 (max) with maxed out weapons and curios and start playing auric maelstroms. The game gets really fun when you move on to havoc and eventually get to 40s (the hardest difficulty).

Cataclysm: The Last Generation is a fork of another game Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead. TLG is on steam but the game is free to play. There is a download on github and the solo dev makes an update almosy every day, sometimes multiple in a day, available to download. Their is a discord too where they link all the latest releases. The game is a very autistic apocalypse survival simulator. There are zombies, demons, aliens, cyborgs and mutants to compete with as well as the mundane threats to survival like hunger and exposure. You can become a cyborg or a mutant yourself eventually too. Or both. Or neither. I personally like playing as a standard human killing monsters in melee.

I do really recommend CTLG. It's very fun once you get past the learning curve.
