The deep sea is an untapped market and I think more games should take place in the deep ocean. Subnautica doesn’t scratch the same itch.
>>749024359We already market to every shrimp out there.
The deep sea doesn't let you make any type of game about it that's not about diving in some submarine getting spooked by pitch black depths and big sea monsters, and that kind of game is niche
>>749024359What are those things eating the whale, eels?
>>749024359I don't think whales play video games and the deep sea has Bobbit Worms and therefore must be destroyed.
I think it's the same as with cosmic horror of the unknownIt is an "untapped" market simply because we know only marginally more about depths our oceans than we can theorize on when it comes to anything past our orbitIf you'd create a game of being at the bottom of the ocean for whatever reason, how are you going to make it spooky? Have some fish chase you? Or will you invent some monster-esqe thing after you? If so, how does that differ from being chased across some alien world or a space station by an ayylmao that wants to probe your asshole? If you'd go with the atmospheric horror of some non-human structures down there, then how does that differ from alien landscapes or structures you could introduce in non-Earth setting?Face it, horror is either about something man-made or non-man-made, and whether its ocean's depths or some supernatural kaleidoscopic landscape, what matters is how you'll show it to a viewer. It makes no difference where the horror is. At that point, it's just vibes and your preferences.
>>749024684HagfishOnce a whale falls onto the ocean floor, it creates a micro ecosystem for a while where these things and many others breedYou can also find various crabs and sleeper sharks there at that pointThese things strip the corpse down to bone. They also even absorb that meat through their skin in addition to their mouth

Play as an 18th century leather and iron-clad deep sea diver. Discover the ruins of a mer-people kingdom. Game begins with your character slowly sinking down and discovering this new world. Pretty quickly disaster strikes, and while exploring what looks like a temple to some many-tentacled god (though its hard to tell exactly what it is because its a ruin and half the statue is missing); your air-hose gets snagged on rubble, tears, you pull on your rope signalling for them to pull you out, they try but you get caught on the ruins, they cut the rope and leave you for dead. As your world fades to black you hear an deep, shuddering voice that offers you your life at a terrible cost; you accept and then everything fades to black. You wake up. Waters are peaceful. Hose and rope are cut. You are still in your big lumbering diver suit inside the mer-people temple. Somehow you can breathe. Long-story short you are now able to breathe underwater, but still very much able to die. Now starts a horror game with lumbering combat that has you meeting with terrifying aquatic life, deranged cultist mer-people, and the minions of the dark tentacled god who tries to kill you when you find a way out of the deal that saved you at the start of the game. Cosmic horror and deep sea terror tropes galore; with slow lumbering combat wielding harpoons as spears, anchors as maces, swords of drowned (and re-animated) pirates and navy soldiers, with legendary weapons including the mer-king's trident and a literal cannon with infinite cannon balls that materialise through a dark god's will.
