Same thing with XIII, lack of diagetic world explanation. They drop you in a world that works differently yet never bothers to explain things in a natural way. The reason it work in X is because Tidus is a stranger in that world, so the other characters are constantly having to explain how the world works to him as a proxy for explaining to the player. In XIII and XV they don't have that proxy, so they have to hide shit in menus and supplementary material. It creates a disconnect between the player and the story / world and makes it hard to care.
