>>749037378>how would this work?It could take a bit more time for Claude to get it working. And you might have to download more tools to make it work. But what could happen is Claude would try and reverse engineer the game exe file, alongside the file data that contains the assets. Since claude can be a pretty good Reverse Engineer you could say that, every game might have the possibility to be reverse engineered. So yeah, it can still figure out how to make mods on its own through a bunch of different methods to understand how the game is working under the hood. The problem now is much about tokens usage and time. Where an already well documented and popular game (such as minecraft) would take an hour or so, trying to completely mod a unknown game might take a couple of days (depending how much tokens you have to spend). Not to mention the complexity of the mod itself

>>749032975How long is going to be before a group of suitably driven individuals, akin to a dedicated modding team from the past, can band together and create something genuinely akin to a classic videogame expansion from the past? I ask out of genuine interest, because at the point where older beloved titles can continue receiving a steady stream of at the very least 'decent' fan-made content, it seems like the incentive for game developers to make genuinely good games and not worthless slop is going to be more important than ever to capture audience attention. It also begs the question, how on earth can game developers/publishers willingly resist using AI to overcome the enormous time-sink of AAA development right now? There has to be a tipping point where it becomes obvious that either you specialise into a role that can work in conjunction with AI, or you become obsolete. From my limited perspective, there were obvious game design hurdles for modders, primarily in brand new asset generation. Modders tended to specialise in repurposing/tinkering with pre-existing things, sometimes very creatively, to create somewhat novel experiences. It was almost always nevertheless limited by development scope and the breadth of the modder's artistic talents.Obviously asking the AI to simply "make ER expansion 2 focussed on Godwyn'" in the best case scenario will result in generic slop, but I assume with the way AI is progressing, in five years or so, a small team could seriously make something interesting by using AI to do the following:>generate concept artwork that a modder can then refine/edit>generate 3D models based on that artwork>generate animations for the 3D models based on familiarisation with the underlying game>generate music>generate/improve/edit writing and dialogue>generate levels/environmental assets etc.And then use it all to create content for the aforementioned 'evergreen' beloved games in a development cycle that massively outpaces AAA development

>>749037935Gonna take at least another year, maybe two. AI is incredible at writing code and reshuffling existing content but it's mid at asset creation, especially anything that isn't an image. There is also the question of efficiency. Even on a $100 max subscription you only have a limited amount of tokens so you have to pick and choose your battles. If you just go "computa maek gam i lik part 2" it's gonna obliterate its token budget without accomplishing much.

>>749037935>It also begs the question, how on earth can game developers/publishers willingly resist using AI to overcome the enormous time-sink of AAA development right now? They won't. It's that simple, not sure if you saw but Capcom are already slowly shifting their game engine into a "Game engine where you create with AI". I would already say at least in code the programmer who does not embrace AI is already obsolete for he can't compete and produce as much high quality code as other seniors with AI. UE6 is going to be heavily leaning on AI for a lot of its systems and content generation. So, the writing ins on the wall for digital content, especially with video games.

They can't. Game development is cooked. >>749050549>>749050614If you are going to shrink Sonic, PLEASE also sharing the speed values by the same amount. It'll make Sonic feel right, even at his shrunken size. It's what they did in Sonic 3's multiplayer mode (not Sonic 2. Sonic 2, they just ran the game twice, one on top of each other, in 480i and called it a day).

>>749051029I used the Pro sub. All I did was dump the game into the chat, gave it a prompt for translation and it gave me a patch, a .cue and a Read Me with instructions. It translated everything including the opening cutscenes. I'm currently trying to see if it can translate Love & Destroy as that's a real test since it'll need to add subtitles to cutscenes. Had to compress Love & Destroy's files since Claude can only accept up to 400MB games. So with more modern games, you may need to split up its files into multiple parts or compress them. But Claude is capable of extracting and combining files.I'm just fed up with these translation projects being abandoned or killed because of Discord drama that the rest of us don't care about. Alternative had a fan translation in the works, but it was killed off.

>>749065193>history doesn't repeat, but it rhymesThis is more like the railway bubble than the dot com bubble. There's insane real demand for AI, and concurrently we're hitting the limits of what infrastructure investment can be financed (see Oracle's Jupiter project), but the price of AI keeps dropping unless you absolutely must have the frontier model.Basically, the capital system is approaching its ability to finance all the datacentres everyone wants simultaneously.OpenAI and Anthropic are making money hand over fist on inference, but the cost of research (mandatory to stay relevant) means they're still running at a net loss.
>>749065536>the price of AI keeps dropping unless you absolutely must have the frontier modelwhat are some old models that have become cheaper
>>749065575>what are some old models that have become cheapernone as women age their demands go up
>>749065012Yeah what those guys said. That first sonic in mario world video was taken from the first rom it built. Long chats can increase token usage, and save higher models for feature planning and looking into nasty bugs.
>>749065575Gemma is smarter than gpt-4 and will run on consumer desktops; Chinese open source models are usually equal in capability to four-month-old American models for like 1/2 to 1/10 the price
>>749065575Ah sorry, I should have been clearer. For the same level of performance, the price is dropping (i.e. it's becoming commoditised). It's like TVs, the flagship models are still thousands of dollars, but a hundred bux will get you something on par with the flagship model from several years ago.Likewise, something like GLM 5.3 flash is crazy cheap and as good as say Opus 4.8.
>>749065657>Long chats can increase token usageSo are there points where it's advisable to start a new chat so its context is not as huge? What do you bring over to the new chat?
Machine learning will never be intelligent. It's a big mess of branching if statements that have had their conditionals tweaked by training input until a satisfactory result is slopped out. After using it long enough you'll start to notice the limits and patterns, you see one slop you've seen them all, the same slop everywhere much like how randomly generated levels can feel infinite at first but shallow as a puddle.
>>749065757Honestly, I just tell claude I'm opening a new chat when I notice usage increasing faster when I'm in a stable state, and it makes notes of everything done in the chat that session. The odd times it forgets some MCP it has access to. Sometimes it finds better ways for automation. Opus 5.5 started using libretro snes9x instead of messing with Mesen's MCP that was unreliable in my last project.
>>749065757Claude and Chatgpt desktop apps have automatic context compaction, not sure about other harnesses.Sometimes when the model gets stuck it's worth starting a fresh session and telling it to avoid looking at the documentation from the previous session, but otherwise you can use the same session basically forever.

>>749032975Another thread, neatMGS4 > Dark Souls 1 passthrough mod anon here again, the horrible walk cycle snake had because he was being warped backwards in the real game before is now fixed and he looks a shitload better for it.I also asked it to look at the unnatural sheen he had before, and while his new lighting is a clear improvement across scenes he still doesn't look quite right. I know why, its because MGS4 has a beautiful lighting system and Dark Souls flat out doesn't have anything in it by default to cast the same kind of shadows on snake. Really makes you see how phoned in the remaster honestly.I might ask Claude to see if there is any way to create a light source above snake that would let him cast a shadow, or at least illuminate him a little better. Either way, the IK implementation is a big milestone for the project. I don't know if I mentioned last time it also now ports over particle effects from gun muzzle flashes and leaves bullet holes in walls where they land. Still doesn't actually use walls to stop bullets from hitting enemies, but that can come later. Opus 5.5 is scarily competent, every time I ask it to fix something it sets up tests, records gifs, compares exact frames, bone values, in game readings and actually fixes shit without me really having to do anything.
>>749066049They could make a lot more profit with AI porn, you know?
>>749066258wheres the tranquilizer??
>>749053118Then just make and sell the game you want instead of working on another company's game.Whole point of this is to drastically decrease the time and effort put into game development as a way of cutting down budgets.
>>749064606Wait could Claude remake that WoW Chaos Mode shown off on youtube? It would be so fucking cool to play it with the boys and even expand the systems.
Genuinely how is this not the end of game programmers assuming it works and it's only gonna get better? I think there will be more of a demand in the long run for non AI Art and Music but I feel most people would give less of a fuck about the nuts and bolts of the mechanics, again assuming it works and could maybe be combed through and refined
>>749056227A while decomp is way harder than recomps. But then again maybe next model.
>>749066297Not sure what I'll do with tranqs, DS1 enemies can't actually sleep (except the mimic) so maybe it could just deplete a different bar and make them ragdoll with a little "zzz" over their heads and give no souls?
>>749065872>It's a big mess of branching if statementsDo you understand how this stuff works at all? A better reduction would to say it's a bunch of repeated matrix multiplications.
>>749066781It's the end of manual programming, but possibly not the end of programming as in 'someone whose job is to produce useful code'.Like engineering drafting used to be huge room of skilled engineers manually drawing pages and pages of schematics, whereas now it's done by much fewer engineers using CAD, but with the same intelligence requirement. On the other hand, the invention of electronic typing didn't result in many skilled typewriter typists consolidating into few keyboard typists who did extremely efficient typing for other people. Instead, typing as a standalone job disappeared and everyone else was required to learn to type themselves.I can see the latter occurring here, think about accountants at large companies who currently get the internal dev team to make changes to their accounting software who might in future just prompt the AI to do it.

>>749068428I'll provide an answer to the questions "why hasn't anyone done more yet?" since its pretty common. On the $20 a month tier that most people are experimenting with, you are basically given 5 hour slots where you get X amount of usage, people on the higher tier get 20x the amount of usage. My project (the MGS4 one) gets about 2-3 hours of working time on opus 5.5 ultracode on the $20 tier. On top of this you have a weekly limit which caps you below the total usage you could get out of every 5 hour slot available by a good amount. This means it takes time for things to progress, Claude is extremely fast and responsive but its not unlimited and eventually you have to wait hours, then sleep, then wake up, then wait, then hit your weekly limit and either use a full reset if you have one or just wait days to start it up again.Thats why more huge projects aren't done yet, it can't code 24/7 unattended no matter what tier you're on. Hypothetically the worlds richest man could buy usage credits on the highest tier and leave it to do that, but even then the coding and prooooompting takes a little time.Out of curiosity, what is your idea of something cool to see with AI anyway? I see a lot of people who hate the crossovers (and many of them are clearly clickbait slop), but not many suggestions as to what would be a better tasting bowl of sloppa.

>>749068904>Out of curiosity, what is your idea of something cool to see with AI anyway?Once someone makes a functioning Bed of Chaos replacement fight with an entirely original 3D model and animations that actually looks appropriate to the setting and cool - I think it'll be very hard to dissuade anyone about AI's role in both modding and the future of game development. The way I see it, game developers claiming to not use AI in their press releases will very rapidly become women claiming not to wear make up in their instagram posts.

>>749068904Personally, I'm working on trying to extract graphics from the DS Rune Factory games so I can improve Rune Factory 4S's graphic variety (the first 4 Rune Factory games are in the same style after all) and maybe try to use the extracted maps to train a diffusion model so I can inpaint in the proper style to make decompositing the RF4 maps easierAnd then once I get the hang of that some modding tools for said games might be nice. Someone out there is already working on reverse engineering the scripting and map editing so I hope he finishes that.
>>749069913It can teach you easily but that's a waste of time right now. Tokens are subsidized and cheap as fuck right now which means you need to make as many cheap game mods you want before the market catches up. You can always have AI teach you coding later since that kind of inference doesn't cost much computing.

>>749068904Don't set it to ultracode, that blows through usage like crazy. Even max burns it ~5x faster than medium and you only even need max for really hard stuff. High and medium are fine for most things.
>>749069839Actually I'd prefer if they restored it to its 1.0 version where every single dragon ass charged you at once as your game on the PS3 tanked to 15fps and you couldn't see shit due to the radioactive lava texture. >>749070161$20 and $100 for either gpt or anthropic gives you the good model but start with $20. you only upgrade the plan if you end up loving AI modding and need more usage to do some really heavy mod work that uses up lots of tokens. Also keep an eye on token usage, if you make the AI work a heavy task when you only have 10% left and it runs out then you have to restart that task from scratch on reset

The subs aren't fully synched with the dialogue as it doesn't capture minor quotes like "baka," but I don't need subs for that. The only things that aren't translated are Egg's dialogue in the menu, which I can live without, as that would require heavy modification of the game, and KiKi's ending isn't fully translated though Claude is working on it as well as improving the timing of subs during cutscenes.
