>Destroys game design forever by proving you don't even need fun gameplay to be engaging you just need RNG loot and progression systems

This was patient zero for nu-gaming

Diablo 2 was the first game that got me to notice how normal people play. They go 100% in, grind like there's no tomorrow, soak up all of the game in the shortest possible time (binging), look up strategy guides to minmax everything, run mephisto bots to get all the rares, then moan and complain that there's nothing new to play. Meanwhile I play laid-back and can enjoy a game on and off for years.

>rng loot
sure but isn't loot and upgrading your character kind of the reason to play any rpg at the end of the day?
>progression systems
where? most people just get to 70 and call it a day because their builds are basically done and getting to 99 isnt worth it with how long it takes.
