Around 2010 I sold almost all my "retro" gaming stuff (wasn't really that retro back then) in a garage sale.

Most of my N64 games, I had about 40 of them
most of my gameboy and GBA games including multiple copies of pokemon emerald, I sold these games for like 5-10 each to make money to buy other shit.
a few of my gamecube games, luckily I kept most of my favorite ones
a lot of my ps1 / ps2 stuff that I didn't think I needed anymore.

god I got rid of so much stuff, even got rid of many of my lego sets at the time because I thought I outgrew them and they were taking up space. Most of the shit I got rid of is worth like 10-20x now.

I had these chrome stormtrooper lego minifigs. I had like 50 of them sealed in the bags that I got at toys r us. I sold all of them around 2015 for $25 a pop, I thought I made bank then because they were like a few bucks each at the time, now they're worth almost $200 now.

Even the remaining lego star wars sets I had left I sold back in 2020 now many of them are worth double what I made back then.

Indeed.

All my pokemon cards too, I either threw them out or lost them in a move around 2006. Back in the early 2000s I bought multiple booster boxes of the original pokemon cards online for a couple hundred bucks each. I had 2 binders full of them, and I have no clue what happened to them over the years because where I live now I accounted for all the stuff I got and it just never made the move.

All my MTG cards, kept them in a shoebox they were from the 90s / early 2000s probably worth some money now, all gone. I never actually played the game either, but I collected the cards just like with Pokemon so I have no idea if they were worth anything or not.

Then my mom got rid of so much of my other childhood toys that I had collecting dust in an attic, hot wheels, action figures, all shit from the 90s / 00s since I'm almost 40 now and she probably donated it to salvation army or some shit back in the 2000s, I didn't care back then because who did? No one could have known what was considered junk back then would ever be worth anything in the future.

As someone who has been in involved in retro spaces for a while I noticed that there's a lot of people who are just emulating and moving on. The actual collector market is super small, people who 10-15 years ago would have had to fight people on eBay for an obscure PS1 game now are completely fine with emulation. This has chilled the market a ton. Also once you get into the PS3/360/Wii era there really are very few truly "rare" games. They made millions of everything, tiny print runs didn't exist by that time. There's maybe a half dozen PS3/360 games that are hard to find. I say this because the older market is aging out of collecting and people are nostalgic for the PS3. The marketd have changed.

I just bought a gba motherboard for cheap and aftermarket case and ips screen, works better than a new console and quality repros exist so you can just see the original and repro ic specs to confirm they use the same components so in the end its still (you) being low iq and poor to buy stuff. Honestly, retro gaming is cheap and easy nowadays. Even ignoring emulation, if you want to play on real hardware, just buy the console and a flash cart you can load with all the games. Or get a modded consoles that already has everything.

It's only expensive if you're a collector.

This is what I do now, but I also amassed a large collection in the 90s and 2000s. Mostly just from never selling my old games and buying whatever old games I wanted to play when they were still cheap. I don't buy anything anymore besides flash carts, but my existing collection is worth a ton.

Somehow toy manufacturers manage to do it just fine with their electronic garbage and continue launching different ones every year.

Nintendo did it for Alarmo and their NSO retro controllers, too.
>>
>>749044364
That's actually new hardware with cheaper components and cheaper fabrication methods, the mini console are just pseudo raspberry pi board or phone boards with emulators, alarmo its a cheap SoC module, not even compated to 20 yo electronics

If you mean replicating the actual hardware, that's prohibitively expensive for hobbists, the closest you'll ever get to that are FPGAs, but they are still far from powerful enough for gate level emulation for most consoles, probably capping around NES. As for companies, they just want to make a quick buck with these, so they just use any cheap off-the-shelf ARM with some lazily coded emulator.
>>
>>749044742
Before being online I was alone and nobody talked with me at school because I didn't have social media.
I hated social media. I thought it turned people into zombies. This was like 2008ish.
People were genuinely positive of it too. It made people talk to each other instead of playing games and being in their rooms all day. That's what some people genuinely thought.

In the end, it was yet more mass marketing. More data. More grand strategy.
Couldn't escape it offline, couldn't escape it online.
I'm sick of both. Marketing should be banned. It is dangerous cult behaviour.
>>
>>749044924

It's sad realizing just how much of "retro gaming" culture just means "Nintendo, and maybe the PS1 sometimes". >>749045113
NES is a weird one because gate-accurate isn't good enough, NMOS effects can apply even when it's a 1:1 gate-level recreation. It rarely ever matters in practice tho.
4th gen gate-accurate FPGA cores do exist on consumer products like DE10-Nano. It's a solved issue.
Above 5th gen frankly gate-accurate isn't even that important. MiSTer fags are happy even though PSX and similar cores have way inaccurate timing.
>>
>>749045049
it's NOT THE SAME
>>
>>749045180
They already dismantled the product lines to accomodate new product production, the fabs probably are from a third party
>>
>>749045232
Mister's approach is close to an emulator running at hardware level. It doesn't go to gate level. That's why it has similar issues to PC emulators.
>>
>>749045137
>the cost of production and design isn't worthy just because a minority want to play games on og hardware
Why was production and design worthy for a minority who wants to play NSO with controller replicas then?

A Game Boy rerelase toy with some games shouldn't be a lot more expensive to develop.

These cores still have their share of issues. But of course I was talking about actual turbo purists, not the youtuber-told-me-Mister crowd. But yeah, I think NES would be safe at switch level, my point is that doing that accurately is a pain and prohibitively expensive.

Yeah, it's similar to building a car by adding parts like by building the model of a car (steering wheel -> steering logic
engine controls -> engine model

Part of the reason why speed traps exist is because you exist. Lawyers force insurance to comply through legal costs. Insurance is what lobbies various committees and even funds think thanks that recommend strategies to things like councils and enforcement. So you existing indirectly causes me to have a speeding fine.

They won't admit it causes crashes, but we all know traps do because you're always distracted for them or the speed limit signs.

It's clear that basedllenial video game fandom (I am a basedllenial, 30) is peaking and the zoomers will straight up be like "diddy blud aaaaah shit" playing generated AI games and not give a fuck about any of this, should just take my winnings from having good taste when I was 15

You don't mass produce FPGAs, you just make ASICS, like >>749045696 said. Chinks have been doing exactly that for decades, nowadays you can get a $7 NES portable that is essentially just a mass produced clone.

Yeah but if they knowingly contribute to the rulebook, then they are complicit in it's manifestation and creation. You should know this.
Then they are complicit in destroying their own economy and medical system. For money.

People used to regularly revolt and burn down the establishment for this exact reason. It stopped functioning.
Since I have been alive, I have seen the economy crash time and time again, prices go through the roof, houses become unaffordable, population spiral out of control yet somehow a shortening of our lifespan (though they won't tell you that even post covid), medicine reinvent and recreate polio, a surveillance state be introduced, monopolies established and become cartel like to the point of trying to kill family, etc etc.

And you're saying it was better for me to contribute to this?
Lunacy.
Fucking lunacy.

Stop calling people like me lunatics. You are the fucking lunatics. You always have been.
You are the dysfunction, not me.

I'll bet you complain about people earning mandatory income at this point. How?
You are a fucking parasite that gloats around on a high horse for mere image and ego. Everything around you turns to shit because of what you do.

Fuck lawyers.
>>

They made way less of them. Just because something is old doesn't mean it is valuable. These Wii games will never be valuable, there's too many of them.

It's that cheap because it's essentially a NES that was reverse engineered nearly 4 decades ago and polished over the years, with a soldered memory with 400 games, miniature size. Nintendo would only be making money with this (more than just selling Switch Online subscriptions at least) if they released some overpriced collectors edition and sold even more overpriced cartridges separately, even then I doubt it would be actually profitable instead of just some prestige thing. The market for a portable NES is minuscle compared to just selling SWO, even the mini consoles kind of flopped.
>>
>>749047134
>old doesn't mean it is valuable
>Wii games will never be valuable, there's too many of them.
Old means more valuable because there's less of it relative to demand - there is a steady entropy affecting all copies of video games. Late games like Fragile Dreams made by small companies sold fuck all and got small prints, these almost always bang in aftermarket value. There are exceptions to the rule of course, games that sold millions but still demand ridiculous prices due to demand alone.

Isn't it insane that the people that suggest that poor impoverished people are the problem are causing them to be poor and impoverished all the time through their tertiary service industry that is designed to literally do nothing but leverage their tertiary service industry and cult of wigs and coats and gavels?
I find it fucking infuriating that people never once question this propaganda in our country.
A lot of this is MIC at work I shit you not. If they don't this, it's a national security risk. They won't connect this directly, but this manifests indirectly.

You have to be poor because it's a national security risk if you're not.
You have to be provoked into doing crime because it's a national security risk if you're not doing it.

All because lawyers want their little fucking LARP in court. In a suit.
God I fucking hate lawyers. Maybe they all fucking burn.

I was talking about all the mini consoles that just don't exist anymore. Sony, Nintendo, Sega, Atari, etc, they all tried it, not enough people interested. Why are midwits so enamoured with the idea of emulating on a pi is a better question.
If you want the real deal, you get the real hardware with some flashcard. If you want practicality and accuracy, you emulate on a PC. If you are a midwit but also wants to play a bunch of shit on a TV, with some accuracy, you get one of these FPGAs.
But you just want a mini console thing, full of issues since it's underpowered as fuck, that you'll touch for 5 minutes once and forget it exists? Get a Pi. At least setting up will be fun.

Well they probably have people in the corp that has spare copies.
They do that with musical instruments and pedals and shit sometimes. You get a couple employees with a bunch of old garbage.

And if they made the impression that demand was high for the sake of artificially keeping prices high, that would not shock me. It takes just a couple employees to do that if they have influence with marketing teams somehow or connections.
Oh and if the site they use gets part of the proceeds... the more obvious reason.

With stocks you actually have issues with selling things too low because that becomes very illegal if you're trying to deliberately crash the market. There's that whole issue too. I don't think with spare cartridges though.
>definitely with housing portfolios though which is part of the problem with mortgage bubbles nowadays, god bless lawyers.

N64 might probably be too demanding, but Game Boy, GBA and DS would still be cool one day.

They can launch with collectable shell colors and different game mixes like Tamagotchi to make them worth it even for original owners.
>>
>>749048810
That's another one. But I had this problem with pedals with covid.
Then I stopped caring about playing music. Strangely.

It's amazing how many hobbies I had that I no longer care about post covid. And careers. Forced scarcity beyond a doubt to me that most things in modern societies are forced by mere rackets and cartels. That's it. Supply and demand stopped being meaningful in any way.

To see artists scalp tickets through authentication methods is revolting though. That only benefits scalpers, not real fans.
Sometimes, indulging in greed is bad for your soul and your lifestyle. It just destroys things you loved.
>>
>>749048881
the components you need for a ds probably don't exist
sure you could use fpgas or downclocked newer chips for the cpu, but who still makes resistive touchscreens at enough scale?

What the fuck did you just fucking say about me, you little bitch? I’ll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Navy Seals, and I’ve been involved in numerous secret raids on Al-Quaeda, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I am trained in gorilla warfare and I’m the top sniper in the entire US armed forces. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of spies across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You’re fucking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that’s just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the United States Marine Corps and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little “clever” comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn’t, you didn’t, and now you’re paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit fury all over you and you will drown in it. You’re fucking dead, kiddo
>>
>>749048881
You can emulate N64 on a SNES classic, and the SoC is underpowered as fuck, a fucking Allwinner R16, costs $1.50 in a bulk (probably was twice that back then lol). Power is not the issue nowadays, some shitty ARM SoC driving a TV box, a smart freezer or anything with a screen really, is powerful enough.

But as I said before, it's probably not profitable compared to just selling SWO subscriptions unless they just overprice it and sell as some limited edition or prestige priced thing.
>>
>>749049813
>just overprice it and sell as some limited edition or prestige priced thing
sure, still cheaper than a Switch 2
>>
>>749049645
That's on them. If they haven't done it already, it's probably because they don't think so.

>>749049365
For a mainstream mini console you don't need any of that, the average person doesn't care about autheticity, just have it look good and feel good. Resistive touchescreens aren't important either, DS works pretty well on capacitive ones, and stylus for capacitive screens exist.

>>749049980
They wouldn't want you to think that lol, they want you to own both. Preferably the one you can access the eshop and buy games for a high margin.

Its also speculators, although they usually try to go with hundreds of thousands of dollars price range. Thankfully it seems the prices are going down and these human cancers are fucking off.

Imagine creating a smash hit like Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver only to never distribute it again in any way, shape or form for more than a decade. Would be funny if books and music worked like this.
