Any attempts at modernizing the series would just make everything worse IMO.Art wise it would gradually come to look like shit with each new iteration.I'm not an expert on the game balance or FGC in general, but of course they'd fuck that up as well.As for my personal tastes, it could never look better than the beautiful spritework of the OG.
The only kind of Darkstalkers I want to see is a new game, but 2D and still using the original sprites for the old characters. Not because of nostalgia, but because that's honestly the only financially feasible way Capcom could make one without it being "financially risky" like a full blown new game from the ground up, nor would it potentially compete with SF6. Grab some vsav veterans, contract some top tier sprite artists and animators from around the world and whip together what a proper darkstalkers 5 would look like. Revisit scrapped ideas, add modern QoL, introduce some new characters, hell for good measure put Ruby Heart and Amingo in there (Who despite popular belief were NOT scrapped darkstalker characters but they fit in so well anyhow). It wouldn't be as successful as Street Fighter, but it doesn't have to be so long as it's budgeted properly.
