What the fuck happened to multiplayer games? I mean I know the real reason but why did we LET it happen? It's all centralized to [NEWEST FPS], Roblox games, and the only two popular MMOs (WoW and FFXIV) unless a new MMO comes along but then loses steam a few months after release. It just felt like there was a lot more variety back then. Like you could get on any online multiplayer game that had active servers and still see thousands of players.
Similar to basically any market or industry, it's advantageous for the top dogs to consolidate everything into only a few options they control with no competition. So instead of there being an endless number of multiplayer games with an average playerbase, instead they all get filtered down into <10 games, because then the ones on top can implement shittier practices and there's no where else for the people to go to so they have to accept it, and that generates them more profit.
>>749045053Haven't played a multiplayer game in years now.
>>749045053>why did we LET it happen? That's because there's no We. If I like WoW and you don't like WoW, then we're two different groups. Now that there's two groups, it's just a matter of which group has more people>people who want to spend the rest of their life crying on 4chan>people who want to play video gamesThe second group just has more people.
>>749045642If you enjoy WoW Forever then you don't enjoy WoW. You're part of the problem.
>>749045053>why did we LET it happen? There isn't really much you can do when corpos see that GaaS brings them more money. Few win, rest tries to chase same money and fails. No idea to make a multiplayer game when everyone is playing one of the few big ones.Line goes up. Forever. Or so they say. Also why would you pay 10-60 dollarinos for niche multiplayer game when you got f2p live service games? Bigger name titles can do it due to brand but AA-studio multiplayer game is risky. You get easier funding if you say you can make the next big thing. Also OSRS exists when it comes to MMOs.Also also only part where "we" failed to keep them alive is the fact that nu-/v/ doesn't want to play anything that doesn't have hype around it. Your game must have some kind of hype. If it doesn't, and someone tries to talk about it here its considered shilling. Just pray some e-celeb makes a video about it or try to bait with culturewar discussion so you can get some people to play it with you.
>>749045676If I'm the problem, then I'll let myself out. I have threads to filter anyway. People make new threads after I filter the old ones, so it's kind of endless. Enjoy each other's company.
> It's all centralized to [NEWEST FPS], Roblox games, and the only two popular MMOsAs opposed to how it usually was back in the good old days, like being centralized to [NEWEST ID GAME], Warcraft 3 custom maps, and the only two popular MMOs (runescape and ragnarok online). Everything's gone to shit.
>willingly spending $80 on a 2 week early access for Maplestory Classic>willingly playing Aion 2>willingly playing WoW Forever>willingly getting hyped for Runescape 4>willingly getting hyped for Guild Wars 3We don't deserve good things
>>749045879You're being disingenuous as fuck or you're underage if you think 2000s multiplayer games and MMOs weren't insanely popular and varied.
