The little cutscene that plays when you buy a new plane makes no sense. The hangar doors slowly open, as the new plane slowly starts getting hit by daylight from the outside, implying that the plane is going to be fully revealed in the light when the doors are fully open. But before that happens, there is suddenly a harsh cut and the plane is shown standing inside the closed and dark hangar again, and the full reveal instead happens with hangar lights turning on and shining on the plane. What gives?

Now that I noticed this, I can't stop getting pissed off every time I see it lol.

>Natural exit point for her character, she doesn't want to shoot down people anyway
That's stupid. In a war setting, the only logical conclusion is that she WILL lose her murder virginity eventually and she does it protecting Coster. What's needed is a scene afterwards where the fact she's killed someone finally hits her and she starts vomiting and crying and needs to be comforted by her team, who all understand the cost of taking human life (except Rex, who's a fucking sociopath and relishes killing Sotoans).

really can only happen if the DLC takes place before the end of the war. The war ends in August and Dision dies in July. It'd be pretty easy to do, though. it's not worth addressing. He and Yoko die because GR send mercenaries to destroy Yoko's sublimination research, it's all internal and nothing to do with the FCU-Sotoa war. Imo, PW > AC just because PW fully supports VR. Doing a gun strafing run on ground targets and coming so close you start seeing the individual steel beams is pretty awesome. 8 is very straight forward though?
Sotoa's fertile land dried up so they swapped to industrialization, Enso approached them to help tech up their military. They invaded FCU for new land, FCU itself already a fairly shake entity considering they immediately had a separatist faction plus another nation inside went neutral. Enso's end goal being AC3.

AC7 might be the worst 'not Assault Horizon" game in the series. The sheer amount of enemy missile spam and pointless sudden deaths is bullshit. It brings back too many of AC4s worst levels, here's a giant map, get X points in 20-30 minutes. It's not fun and it's rage inducing. That's not even saying anything else about the game. The only good part about AC7 is doing well enough that AC8 kino came out seven years later.

Just finished the game. For me, compared to the rest of the series (I played all of them except the PSP ones), it has

>best graphics
>best sound design
>top 3 mission design
>top 3 plane handling
>top 3 difficulty levels/scaling
>not sure about the plane selection because i dont remember every single plane in every single game

As my own arbiter of what is good and what is not, mixed with it being 10-20 years since last playing AC4 and 5-7 years since playing AC7, those missions sucked there and didn't suck in AC8. I'll have to let it simmer for a few weeks or months but AC8 is already in my top 2 for the series, it may take over Zero as my favorite entry when the dust settles.

>>749061005
I didn't say anything about gimmick missions, /v/ isn't one person. Quite frankly I hate AC7 so I don't remember shit beyond the worst it had to offer to me. AC7 wouldn't suck as bad if not for the constant enemy AA and SAM barrages that never go away. I assume it's due to the introduction and poor implementation of flares, but I couldn't say.

AC7 had better ideas than 8
>retarded nobility starting a war for absolutely zero fucking reason
>penal brigades sent to die
>breakdown of global communications, fog of war
>fully autonomous drone warfare continuing last instruction to wage a war with no human in the loop
>actual electronic warfare beyond a missile booster, fucking with your IFF
>the extreme reliance on these information systems by modern fighters
>kessler syndrome
>independent squadron: the three strikes
I really, really liked how bleak the end of 7 was. 8 starts kinda like that, but for different reasons, which quickly get undone, and it goes back to regular-ass war.
If you remove the references to 3 (like GR) from 8, it makes it kinda hard to see a plausible transition between the two. After 7 everything is so fucked the possible path of world's nations giving up power to corporations in order to keep themselves together, leading to how the world is in 3, seemed almost inevitable until 8 basically reset the slate

Just beat the game, and I feel like they should have just made Moon 11 your rival and got rid of mission 30. Here's what I'd probably change

>They should of got rid of Shadow 22 and just had Moon 11 be your rival so the battle against her actually had an impact. Have her show up for a few missions, like the retreat on the first attempt at retaking the capital, say some shit, fight you for a bit before fucking off.
>Maybe make it so you can actually fight her to change the dialogue, and give you some score bonuses like fighting Crimson in Project Wingman
>Have her do the Shadow 22 shit like shooting the parachutes and shooting Cope down
>Combine the 1000 lights mission and the follow-up with their goal being to expose Enso and take revenge on you, with her ignoring you initially until you finally use you being able to hear Cope to call her out on her larp and goad her into a dogfight. This way you being able to hear him matters.
>Axe mission 30 entirely, the resulting battle reveals Enso's involvement in the whole thing

As is, she doesn't feel that built up(Even though you hear her in mission 4 or whatever), and doesn't feel like she deserves a song with lyrics like Everflow. This would also make the squad finally relaxing, and Cope saying goodbye more appropriate since they don't have to go
>Whoops, gotta take down a unmanned submarine LOL

So what was the point in making me slaughter those Gemma chicks in two missions?

It only burned out quickly because there wasn't a super ace IRL like in this game.

Because AC7 was a very experimental game while AC8 was P.A. making a game based on all the element that were universally liked in AC7.
The end result was a more consistent experience at the expense of novelty.
>>
>>749063287
They absolutely are, they just aren't allowed to have one.
Amazon's profit last year was 77 billion dollars, so 77 billion in just cash they could spend or reinvest.
The hardware cost for an entire carrier group is only 25-30 billion, and operational costs at 2-4 billion per year.
If Amazon was allowed and had no guardrails, it could have 7 or 8 full carrier groups in 5 years, not gone into debt to pay for them, and I'm sure they'd be doing *something* to earn back on that investment if that were to have happened.

In 7 I just remember the radar thing.

In 5 it was the radar thing, timing the bomb on 4 horseman(?) and I think stopping the gas attack was annoying. Escaping on the test planes felt a little like "this was an idea for a tutorial mission but it was eventually shuffled to the middle of the game" but it was fine I guess

I think 5 had the better final mission, the overall plot makes more sense (surely corporations had a better way of undermining countries than just giving away superweapons to a particularly retarded one?), and bothe 5 and 8 have equally good soundtracks, but everything else 8 clears it.
>>
>>749063902
what did you like about 8's writing. be specific.
>>
>>749063854
Kinetic weaponry would actually produce a shockwave, heat up and displace material. It wouldn't quite look like that but CoD's depiction is also inaccurate.
>>
>>749063721
Idk if I agree about '5 but good' But it's obviously very 5 coded so I rate them about similarly. 8 is probably objectively better, but 5 does have the nostalgia factor.
Also, there's something about the camp that just works better in older less polished games. 8 and even to some extent 7 maintaining high levels of anime camp but also really high presentation otherwise does kind of diminish it a little. You would want to keep the melodrama, but also improve the voice acting and writing quality imo.

As cool as rods from god are, they would slow down way too much to be AS powerful as a nuke. They would need rocket engines to go fast enough once in atmo, and at that point. Just put a nuke on a rocket, it's cheaper.

>>

Some of the early planes might be a bit overtuned.
I went Hornet->Tomcat->Gripen->Rafale->Typhoon->F35 and the Gripen was almost as nimble as a superplane (think AC7 Rafale) so I kept flying it until I unlocked the F35.

>bunker buster
>visually IDing friendly vs bandit x2
>stay below clouds or you get missile'd (this one was cool)
>unkillable bossfight with scripted lightning strikes
with 5 there's also nagase search. but with 5 another big pain point is the amount of time waiting for people to yap, like the stadium mission.
>>
>>749064308
It's worth noting the satellite was actually just a giant fucking railgun because it has an EMAD it uses to fire them at like 10Km/s, so by the time the atmosphere is thick enough for drag to matter, they're auto-igniting the air around them, which does actually have a slight drag reducing effect provided you don't break apart.
>>
>>749064531
as fun as some of these were, they were just fucking ridiculous. shit like this is why we get top gun maverick, which, while still fun, honestly could be a lot better.

>absolutely none of the originals from X despite being a decade later
>>
>>749064308
This is false, and retarded. The veritasium video is actually one of the worst 'science' videos I've ever seen, and it fundamentally misrepresents how that system would work in reality (not to say it's practical, it probably isn't, but it absolutely could work as advertised). Not like 50MT nukes, 500KT might even push it, but could be effective tactical weapons.

Fun physics and chemistry lesson with real examples. kinetic impactors, and to some extent railguns (though really you need 3-4x that speed), count as hypervelocity impacts. The kinetic energy is significantly higher than the chemical energy holding materials together and when things touch at those speeds they very much do just explode conventionally rather than as an object hitting or pushing the other'. This is why on the moon the craters are all circular despite most impacts being at pretty significant angles, you might expect an oblong shape from those, but they end up as point explosions at the point of impact. But to get this effect you need extremely high velocities that and the result is any material involved behaves as though it were a conventional chemical explosive.
Same principal as the shielding on spacecraft, if you just thought about the kinetic energy and momentum the ISS would be riddled with bullet holes but the foil standoff shielding causes small space junk to just vaporize a distance away from the actual hull.
You've probably seen video of railgun penetrators going through like 10 thick steel plates, and that's actually an example of how slow it is relative to what I'm talking about here, once you get to like 20 or 30km/s The penetration would vaporize itself and the first steel plate and then not go through the rest the way a 7km/s one does.

>AAA beams are effectively impossible to consciously dodge. If it shoots at you, it WILL hit with at least one of the three pulses it fires in quick succession. If you're unlucky, more than one. There's just no way around it... save one. They do actually miss on rare occasions. You must be presenting the turret no movement across its field of view, so you may be directly closing, stopped, or directly headed away, and the firing ship needs to be stopped. Very rarely in this situation the beam will just shoot around you. But don't expect this to save you in a tight spot, because it's much more likely to just skewer you.

These weapons are so dangerous on capital ships that default campaign disables most of them regardless of difficulty.

I feel like I'm struggling with the F22. I guess I've just become way too impatient with my flying this late into the campaign. I ought to take a break.
>>
>>749065378
Oh yeah.
If we want to justify it, it's because they're firing it at you raw instead of off the orbital mirrors to actually aim the thing I guess, so it's easier to make small corrections at a longer distance versus at close range?
