It's boring, slow, and I already completed every area. The way this is doled out as a surprise at the end of the game is a slap to the face
>but you're supposed to have advanced knowledge on your second play through and get 4/14 artifacts through normal progression
Great, I'll remember that next time I don't play this game because once was enough. At no point was the game fun, the combat interesting, the scanning satisfactory, the platforming and movement interesting.
>>
>>749059781
When people say they like Prime 2 is it purely because of the "I LOVE how much it hurts!" factor with the overtuned bosses or is it a more general love? I think Torvus was the only map that matched Prime 1's levels' atmosphere.

That's your mentality treating a video game like a grocery list instead of an adventure. If you don't like being in the environments this was never the game for you.
>Adjectivespam
I thought the game was enjoyable, the combat exciting, the scanning engaging, and the platforming and movement well-done, personally.
>>
>>749059895
Prime 2 has better graphics, better music, better level design, better enemy variety, better bosses, better abilities, better difficulty, and even has decent multiplayer. I got a lot of mileage out of the multiplayer, we played it a lot between Smash Bro matches.
>>
>>749059817
how is it a surprise? you can go to the artifact temple pretty much as soon as you land on tallon IV and scan the artifacts for the clues
>>
>>749059817

This is the goyetic mindset that led to games no longer having lives and giving you a linear smell trail by the way.
>>

eh not quite perfect
i just replayed it this week and the rock boss was really long and kinda lame
also space pirates sometimes just clusterfuck around you and make it hard to see
besides that its a phenomenal game and a strong contender for best 2d to 3d transition
>>

Prime would be better if it was a linear game, they would have to make it fun instead of relying on backtrack slop to waste your time.

You get three beams throughout the entire game, and they're all shit. And you spend half of the game in the Dark Aether, which is extremely linear and not interconnected at all. Just random isolated dungeons. You can praise the atmosphere and bosses but it objectively had some of the worst level design and upgrade progression in the entire franchise
>>
>>749060406
Sanding off the edges would be making a linear series of hallways where you point and click on targets behind cover, which is what you want all games to be. The reason being is simple: you're cattle.
>>
>>749060489
They may have to make a game with challenge and interesting progression instead of the awkward back tracking we got. Imagine that, a game that's actually challenging and demands something from the player beyond how much boring bullshit are they willing to put up with. You ever play a game that's actually fun?

>>
>>749061443
>I've never played the game on a difficulty lower than hard
Is that supposed to be impressive? The game is made for literal retards regardless. Its core gameplay is perfectly designed for someone like you who very clearly has issues navigating 3D space on his own.
>>
>>749061554
>Is that supposed to be impressive?
It's clearly made you feel inferior, which you are.
>The game is made for literal retards regardless
And Prime isn't? Come on anon, be serious. It's a Nintendo baby game. It's meant to handhold you and first time players who need help doing things like moving the camera around.
>very clearly has issues navigating 3D space on his own
White people be like the quiet sadness of navigating 3D metroid spaces
>>
>>749060465
>You get three beams throughout the entire game, and they're all shit.
Wrong right off the rip. They're all stronger, and the ammo lends itself into alternating between guns way better than Prime 1 ever does. In Prime 1 you get a new beam and you're using that as a linear upgrade path unless you need to open a door, then you just go through the motions, switch, open door, switch back to your plasma. Rinse repeat. Ammo limits allow for guns to be really powerful, the annihilator beam is allowed to be extremely strong. There's nothing in Prime 1 as satisfying as applying light beam or annihilator beam to a bubble and having it instantly kill the Ing.
>And you spend half of the game in the Dark Aether, which is extremely linear and not interconnected at all.
Entirely the wrong mentality, because you don't "spend a lot of time in one overworld" you spend all of your time jumping between dimensions, where everything is completely integrated. It also adds the benefit of oppressive immersion, and hostile alien environments. You can hear heart beats in the dark world. It's an inhospitable environment, you're a foreign intruder. There's also the overwhelming sense of empowerment that comes from obtaining the light suit, which in effect gives a feeling of having conquered this harsh and threatening world.
>it objectively had some of the worst level design and upgrade progression in the entire franchise
Absolutely incorrect. Level design is very strong, when you obtain a new ability it immediately opens up a shortcut. One of the first you get is space jump, and you walk into the next room and drop down to the portal to leave back to where you need to go. You could jump up the ledge to return if you need. When you obtain boost ball you can take the half pipe into a tunnel to the seeker missiles, AND it doubles as a shortcut to the beginning of the game as well. The entire game is like this.
>>
>>749060897
The backtracking in Prime 1 is tedious because you have to go back and forth down a linear pathway (magmoor) multiple times. Prime 2's modular design avoids this. The 2D games like Super usually have you loop around to where you need to be, and it's also faster to get around in those games. It's not backtracking that's the problem- Prime 1 just handles it poorly. Still love Prime 1 btw.
>>
>>749061687
>It's clearly made you feel inferior, which you are.
Your people reading skills are about on par with your gaming abilities.
>And Prime isn't?
Clearly not since it filtered you.
>White people be like
Least surprising brown reveal in history.
>>
>>749061443
All you've done is spout some nonsense about "replaying levels you've already done" which is disingenuous because every time you go back to a previous section it's for the purposeful factor of unlocking a new region in it. Completing the puzzle to unlock the Plasma Beam in Magmoor isn't "replaying Magmoor".
>But what about muh elevators and-
It's exploration. It's supposed to feel weighted and inconvenient. This is the same thing everyone praised DS1 for before later installments ruined everything by slapping checkpoints every twelve steps for people with ADHD. Like you.
>>
>>749061786
>The 2D games like Super usually have you loop around to where you need to be
I dont get why this is so hard for Prime 1 fags to grasp. Super does it well, it does it really well. Prime 2 tries earnestly to replicate that, in ways Prime 1 never achieves.
>>
>>749060897

>>
>>749061881
NTA but Prime 1 is filled to the brim with time wasting nonsense that the developers have confirmed in interviews they did on purpose because they were dreadfully afraid the game would be too short otherwise. I will list some:

-Obtaining the boost ball begets traveling all the way across the overworld back to the landing sight to obtain space jump boots which begets traveling all the way back across the overworld to get wave beam
-Getting grapple beam begets traveling all the way across the overworld to get plasma beam and then traveling all the way across the overworld to get phason suit grabbing xray visor on the way

There are no shortcuts to be used during these parts! there's just retreading magmoor caverns because it's the only thing connecting all these disparate areas together.

Not to mention generally >>749059918 anon's image depicts consecutive back and forth through hallways with nothing having changed at all in the first area of the game. It makes all the upgrades feel very ineffectual and token, a piecemeal facsimile of a Metroid game.

and I have to mention tedious tricks such as the ice beam door outside the room you obtain ice beam, which would send you back and forth through a submerged tunnel moving slow as molasses until the game graciously informs you to go ALL THE WAY across the overworld for gravity suit and ALL THE WAY BACK again through that same submerged tunnel. EGREGIOUS, on PURPOSE. because fuck you. Metroid Prime is "all the way across the overworld": The Game
>>

>which would send you back and forth through a submerged tunnel moving slow as molasses until the game graciously informs you to go ALL THE WAY across the overworld for gravity suit and ALL THE WAY BACK again through that same submerged tunnel. EGREGIOUS, on PURPOSE.
Gaming was better when developers did things like this. The concept of "QoL" and "respecting my hecking time" has completely sanded away unforgettable moments like this.

I recently replayed it and while I have a few minor gripes with like the difficulty scaling or whatever (it's pretty much impossible to die before Phazon Mines if you're trying) I finally found out why I always capped out at about 80% completion on previous playthroughs. People whine about the artifacts but you can clean a lot of house while pressing forward with a bit of curiosity. What ACTUALLY sucks is walking back through the world to clean up shit that requires the plasma beam or x-ray visor when you can just walk into the Impact Crater instead. That's the shit I don't want to backtrack for because fuck it, the end of the game's right there if you were paying attention, but with those two powers it's like a memory check on shit you might have seen 70% of the game ago but couldn't interact with it. That shit sucks, and it's not like you need it because the one actually valuable powerup is energy tanks and the last one should be falling into your lap 5 seconds after killing the Omega Pirate. It's all missiles and power bombs, whoopee.

>send you back and forth through a submerged tunnel moving slow as molasses until the game graciously informs you to go ALL THE WAY across the overworld for gravity suit and ALL THE WAY BACK again through that same submerged tunnel
i think the idea is to explore the spaceship from the very start of the game in a completely different way and feeling how underpowered you are underwater, which then sets up how much more powerful you feel when you return with the gravity suit. if you just went there straght away with the gravity suit it would not be as memorable
