Basically nothing happens until the very end of the game and then a fuckton of very random, unexpected shonen shit happens. Repeat this for basically every single game. Also no the plot never concludes or significantly moves forward and the end is nowhere in sight. And no it never makes more sense there's just new characters and more "worldbuilding" in every new game.

Don't talk to NPC's in those games.
1) They don't say anything useful
2) The localizers added ten times more text to the script for no reason
If you skip them, the games are twice as quick. And you need to employ every trick in the book to shorten those games down because by the time you've finished reading this post, Falcom will have released 6 sequels and announced another 3.
